Clearance cameras at Amazon!

Amazon has an end of summer digital camera clearance which includes some interesting deals actually, starting with the Olympus SP-320 at $199. If you like to try the alternative brands, the Samsung L73 is available for $162 and the Sanyo Xacti VPC-S60 6MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom goes for $181.

What is perhaps a bit of surprise, unless it is a mistake, the recently released Kodak M853 is also marked for clearance! The Kodak V1003 is no surprise though as it is *gasp* from last season, which is apparently an eternity for cameras. It sells for around $184 for the silver edition, but it's available in different colors and at slightly different prices per color to boot.

From the DSLR world, the Olympus E500, in body only configuration, is available for just $407. Meanwhile Pentax K-mount users have a choice between the Pentax K100D body only at $418 after rebate or $492 if you buy it with the 18-55 kit lens. This after you submit and receive a $50 mail-in rebate. The fact that this camera has built-in sensor shift stabilization and works with K-mount lenses makes it a great bargain for some users! But be informed, there is a replacement for it that has began shipping, the Pentax K100D Super.

And a film SLR for those film Rebels, the Canon Rebel T2 35mm SLR Camera (Body Only) for just $195. You do have to buy and develop film since this is a 35mm film SLR!

Please note the prices are as of writing this and both price and availability can change at any moment!

Digital camera deals at Office Max tihs week! (Sony H2 for $200!)

While their friends at Staples have not published a circular for the 2nd week in a row, Office Max has posted up their usual weekly circular. Regular shoppers are already aware of this, but Office Max is allergic to rebates, which makes them a good place to shop for people who want nice prices without the hassle of sending in rebates.

Anyways, enough talk, how about some cameras? Sony and Minolta lens owners will be thrilled to know that the Sony A100 with the 18-70 DT kit lens is on sale for $600 even! That's the only dSLR advertised this week. This may not be available in all stores!!!

A super bargain for thrifty long zoom fans is the Sony Cybershot H2 for $200 even, no rebates, no nothing. This is an older camera, but given the mixed feelings and reviews of the Sony H7 and H9, perhaps this may be the best bang for the buck in the Sony H-series line-up. This is a 6mp 1/2.5", 12x stabilized, AA-based camera!

Among the cutesy cameras (aka ultracompacts), the Sony SD750 with a 1gb SD card is $280, while the Olympus FE-250 with a 512mb xD card is $180, promoted as a special purchase.

Speaking of special, the Kodak C613 is bundled wiht the Kodak printer dock, 1gb Lexar SD card and a digital camera starter kit containing the usual assortment of basic accessories (bag, ancient NiMH batteries and charger, mini tripod, etc) for one low price of $160. This is a good absolute beginner starter kit! Basically for $160 you have the camera, the bag, the home photo printer and dock, and even a mini tripod. Not bad!

The value line is led by the Kodak C653 at $100 even, the Fuji A800 at $120 and te Canon A560 at $150. It's hard to complain about these prices, especially the first two, which are while supplies last!

Among the memory cards, what stands out is a Toshiba 1gb SD card for $10, or a 2gb for $20. As you can see this is a nice circular for a change! Some nice bargains can be found if that's what you are looking for or you are sitting on an Office Max gift card. For more details check their website or visit your local shop!

Digital camera deals at Fry's electronics

Olympus fans will be thrilled that they can get the Olympus FE-210 in a blister pack for $100! Yes, just $100! Yet another $100 camera deal.

But that's not the cheapest camera advertised dear readers. The Samsung S630 is selling for $88. Yes, eighty eight dollars!

Even the mighty Sony is falling in price, the Cybershot S700 is now $137, while the trendy T20 is $227 in silver or trendy pink. Famous for trendiness and multiple colors is the Casio EX-Z77 for $189, in pink, blue, silver and black. Even smaller is the Casio EX-S880 but costs more, $277. For exactly the same price you can get the EX-Z1080. Its predecessor, the EX-Z1050 got a very positive review from dcresource. So that's a camera to bookmark!

Only one "more advanced" camera is advertised, the Olympus SP-550 at $350. But be advised, this is being replaced by the SP-560.

On the DSLR front, the Olympus E410 is on the attack, with teh body only configuration for $550, the single lens kit for $600 and the best bang for the buck bundle of all, the two-lens kit is $700. Remember these are the newer and smaller Olympus kit lenses that try to match the small size of the E410. Now if this camera had sensor shift stabilization at this size... The E510 does have that, but it's not as small nor as cheap.

On the accessories front, the 7" BPF-107 digital picture frame is $88, while the ality 8" premium is $197.

    Camera deals at Circuit City

Let's see what we got. For thrifty buyers, the Samsung S630 is just $90 and yes it has a 3x optical zoom lens! For an extra $40, you can get the Nikon Coolpix L11 with a free 512mb SD card. Next up the ladder is the Sony W55 with a free 512mb memory card for $200. For $30 more you can get the W80 in pink with a free 1gb memorystick pro duo memory card.

A brand new Canon A-series camera, the A720-IS comes out of the gate at the very reasonable price of $250. This has a 6x optical zoom lens with IS, and is powered by AA. A good camera for someone wanting to get started in digital photography and learn quickly. For the bling-bling crowd, the brand new Nikon S51 is available for $280, with the pink color available exclusively at Circuit City. Also in trendy colors is the Kodak V1253 at $300 and 12 megapixels. Next up the Canon Sd850-is costs $350, although if you ask me, the SD800IS is a better bargain :)

The only DSLR featured is the Nikon D40x with the 18-55 DX kit lens at $750. This is a $50 price break, but the camera can still be had for less at online retailers, and even less at discounters.

New Camera Parade at Best Buy!

First off, the usual 12 months no interest on all digital cameras over $299. Also Sandisk is having a co-promotion to help fight Alzheimer's. For each Sandisk SDCZ6-2048-A11ALZ 2gb usb flash drive or SDSDH-2048-A11ALZ 2gb Ultra II SD card sold, $1 will be donated to the Alzheimer's foundation. The flash drive is $25 while the SD card is $30.

Speaking of memory cards, the 4gb PNY P-SDHC4GB4-RF3 SDHC is $45, while their 2gb microSD P-SDU2G-RF3 is $30. For the proprietory crowd, the Fuji 1gb xD is $25, while the Sandisk SDMSPD-2048-A10 2gb memorystickproduo is $35.

Hey what about some cameras? The only DSLR advertised is the Nikon D40x with the 18-55 DX kit lens at $750, a $50 price drop from the typical big chain store price. Of course you can always buy it for less at online retailers and discounters. But if you have a $750 Best Buy gift card burning in your pocket...

The only superzoom advertised is the brand new Kodak Z812-IS for a tempting price of $300. Another brand new camera is advertised as well, this one featuring an exclusive Best Buy black finish. We are talking bout the Casio EX-V8 for $305. However, be sure to read the reviews for its predecessor model, the Exilim EX-V7 before buying it!

The new camera parade continues with the big mystery camera, the Fuji F50fd featuring a 12mp SuperCCD sensor for $300. The big mystery being how well does this camera perform in low noise situations compared to its critically acclaimed 6mp predecessor and the more recent 8mp and 9mp versions? Yes, this Finepix has sensor shift stabilization!

Also at 12 megapixels is the sleek looking Kodak Easyshare V1253 black at $300, and 720p 30fps video mode which may make it tempting for video fans :) Another sleek camera is the new Nikon Coolpix S51 in navy color for $280. This is not the wireless model, the wireless model has a small "c" in its name, "S51c" and costs about $50 more.

And for those bargain hunters looking for a pink camera, the Panasonic LS75 is exclusively avaiable in pink @ Best Buy for $150. This entry-level P&S camera includes MegaOIS stabilization, just like any other non-DSLR Panasonic camera of the last few years.

And this concludes our Best Buy coverage for this week! Remember the circular ads are also useful if you want to ask your favorite retailer to price-match the item, assuming they carry it and assuming they have a price-matching policy. In fact some stores have a 110% price match guarantee, which means you will get the item at a slightly lower price even!

Kodak digital camera bargains at Target!

It's Kodak Days at Target this week! Four of their digital cameras are featured in the sunday paper circular, and each one comes with a bonus Target gift card.

So what do we have? For starters, the entry-level Kodak C613 is $130 and comes with a $10 gift card. A $15 gift card is the bonus for the newly released Kodak M753, which uses a LiIon battery instead of the usual AAs found in most Kodak cameras in this price/feature range. Next up, in three delicious colors is the Kodak V803 (1/1.8" sensor) with a $20 gift card. Last but not least, the Kodak Z712-IS with a $25 gift card for $250.

New Camera deals at Office Max

According to the new weekly circular posted at OfficeMax.com, we have the following camera and photo offers. The best deal seems to be the Olympus FE-250 with a generous free starter kit for $190.

In the sub $200 category we have the Olympus FE-210 for $130, the HP R837 for $150 and the Canon A560 for $150 as well. Next up the Sony W80 for $230, the Canon SD1000 for $250 (currently at $205 at Amazon), and the Canon Digital Rebel 350D XT with kit lens for $550.

On the accessories, a 6" Pandigital digital photo picture frame is $80, while various Sandisk memory cards are on sale. Actual prices not listed. And this concludes the OMax circular!

Hot sellers at Amazon right now

To quickly check the deals mentioned here, visit the Amazon website or click on the Amazon logos in this blog.

As we peruse the cybershelves of Amazon Foto, we stumble upon these items of interest:

    Canon
Everybody's favorite pocket camera, the Canon SD1000 is down to $205 right now. Yes almost two hundred for this Elph cutie! But if you wanna climb up the Elph ladder, the SD800IS which starts at 28mm wide is $292, while the SD850IS is $309.

The venerable A-series offers great values for money, such as the A570IS for $169 or the A630 for $200 or the A560 for $136.

Crash-landing price-wise is the buyer's gain as the Canon S5 IS is now down to $345 (from $500 just a few weeks ago). If you prefer fewer megapixels and a lower price, the S3 IS can be yours for $288

If you are a Rebel looking for a cause, you just found one: The Digital Rebel 400D XTi with 18-55 EF-S lens, black finish for $693. Yes, they are under $700 now. If you prefer to get one without the bundled kit lens, the sticker price is $612. Competition is good! If you want a step up the DSLR ladder, the 40D is shipping via Ritz Camera for $1300 even (the list price, a bit too early to discount it)

    Sony
The glory days of Sony are gone, now their best selling cameras are their cheapest cameras. The Sony W55 is at $180-ish and available in different fashionable colors. Also dropping in price is the W80, currently just five dollars above $200.

At $130 via Crutchfield you can get a Sony Cybershot, yes the S650 featuring a 7mp 1/2.5" sensor and 3x optical zoom, along with AA and rootkit stick (oops memorystick). Or you can get the S700 for $140.

If you want a cute Sony t-series without breaking the bank, the T20 pink is available via Cameta Cameras for $255.

Hugging the $300 line is the Sony N2 available at that price via the good people at J&R World. A bit of a unique camera but it has never really found a mass-market appeal - because if it had, there would have been an N3 and N4 already :)

    Nikon
You may have never thought this day would ever come, but it has, a Nikon DSLR with a 18-55 DX kit lens for $500. Yes I am talking about the D40 of course. A brand new Nikon DSLR current model for $500! Be sure to check the lens compatibility though because this one is geared towards the newer lenses.

Not to be outdone by the crashing of prices, the Nikon Coolpix L10 is available for $100 even!

Fighting off the Digital Rebel XTi 400D at about the same price is the Nikon D40x with a kit lens. Yes, the Canon v Nikon battle is on! This is a one-on-one battle!

    Olympus
The Stylus 750 at $170 (7mp, 5x optical, and weatherproof) is a reasonable bargain if you can stomach xD memory cards and Olympus's silly requirement for panoramas. If this camera featured the dual xD/SD card slot that Fuji cameras started using a few months ago it would have been a best seller!

    Panasonic
The Panasonic FZ-series continues to pick up in popularity and with the release of the Panasonic FZ18, the Panasonic FZ8 has become a nice bargain, especially considering that this camera supports RAW! Get yours now!

The Fun-Zoom camera of the year, the TZ3 is available for around $300, depending on the retailer and the availability of the body color of your choice (blue, black or silver)

    Kodak
One of the biggest superzoom with IS bargains is the Kodak Easyshare Z712IS at the low price of $219. At $113 the C653 is a good starter or toss around camera (6mp, 3x optical). If you like your megapixels by the pound, try the Kodak Z1275 at $215, paying for less than $20 per megapixel ;-)

    Fuji
Another great super zoom bargain, but without IS is the Fuji S700 (S5700) at $195. Also bargain price is the A900 at $157. Although it also uses the 9mp 1/1.6" SuperCCD sensor, this camera is not on par with the S9000/S9100/E900. Be sure to check the reviews as always.

Another sexy looking "bijou" camera at an affordable price (albeit with xD) is the Fuji Finepix Z5fd available in trendy fashionable colors for around $160.

One of the biggest bang for the buck camera in terms of IQ and features is the Fuji S6000fd currently at $310 before rebates. This camera uses the magic 6mp 1/1.7" SuperCCD sensor. Going against it is the lack of image stabilization of any sort and the exclusive use of the xD card.

    Pentax
A bang for the buck DSLR, especially for K-mount owners is the Pentax K10D, now at $700 after a $50 rebate. This is the camera that forced the competition to add more features to their mid-range DSLRs. And while the Canon/Sony/Nikon mid-range DSLRs are above $1000, you can have this guy for just $700AR!

    Samsung
If $100 is too much, how about $90 for a 6mp, 3x optical camera, the Samsung S630? Yes, just ninety dollars! Samsung is anxious to increase their market share, and this camera is a classic market share grabber model available in silver or black.

    GE
Not wanting to miss the $100 camera party GE lowers the A730 to that price. This is a 7mp 3x optical camera, but do read the reviews first.

    Friday, September 14, 2007

Next week at Staples (starting Sunday)

The Kodak Z885 is $200 even. This camera is reviewed in the October 2007 issue of Popular Photography and Imaging. The Olympus FE-210 is $150. The Sony W80 is $230 and available in three fashionable colors.

On the accesory front, Kodak's 7" digital picture frame is $100 after an Easy Rebate, while you can get a 1gb PNY CompactFlash for $13.

And the usual printer offer, the Epson® R280 color photo printer is free after rebates with the simultaneous purchase of a digital camera.

Also select digital cameras will be on clearance up to 50% off. No specifics our mentioned so this probably is going to vary from store to store.

Digital cameras at Fry's this weekend

Hey, don't you want a $89 camera? It's the Samsung S630, with a 6mp 1/2.5" sensor, 3x optical zoom, SD, AA batteries and a 2.5" LCD! Samsung is subsidizing their quest for more market share. Their big plan is to become #3 in global market share for 2007 and the only one standing in their way is Kodak! Speaking of which, they will soon be releasing their $80 camera (5mp, 3x optical), named Easyshare C513. Its claim to fame being that it uses a Kodak CMOS sensor instead of the traditional CCD sensors typically used in consumer level P&S cameras from the traditional/big-name manufacturers.

Anyways, back to Fry's. The Sony W55 is $180, while the Canon SD750 with 1gb SD card for $277. Okay the 1gb SD card is not really a big deal, you can get these for $10 to $15 when they are on sale. At $327 you can get the SD850-IS which has IS but does not start wide. To round-up the Canon, the Powershot S5IS is $377. Yes, the price dropped quite fast because the other superzooms that were recently announced put a lot of pressure on it. Both in terms of price and in terms of zoom range. The Sonys have a 15x zoom ratio while the new Panasonic FZ18, Fuji S8000fd and Olympus SP-560 have a crazy 18x optical zoom ratio.

The deal of the day is the Olympus FE-something, with a 7mp sensor, 3x optical zoom, and a free starter kit that appears to include a mini-tripod, basic camera bag, memory card wallet, a couple of other things. All that for $117. Of course if you buy Olympus you have to buy xD memory cards which is silly and annoying, but their prices have fallen down significantly so if you are just buying a basic camera with a couple of memory cards it's not a big deal. Oh yes, if you like panorama pictures, Olympus has this stupid requirement that you have to use Olympus branded memory brands. There is no technical reason for this, just greed and stupidity. And yes, you can easily make any xD card compatible by writing a string of characters to it. Check the camera forums for more details. Silly Olympus, you should apologize!

DSLR wise, the Olympus E510 with the two lens kit (using the smaller 4/3rds kit lenses, not the older kit lenses) is $900 flat. Or if you are a K-mount fan, the Samsung GX10 (aka Pentax K10D) is on sale for $700 which includes a basic 18-55 kit lens. Don't let the Schneider-Kreurznach name fool you, it's the same kit lens bundled with the Pentax DSLRs.

How about some accessories you ask? Well, there is a nameless 9" digital photo frame for 4127, and a Funpix desktop digital photo frame with a tiny LCD for $29. Or how about a 10" Gold Lantern DPF10102 digital photo frame for $188?

Anything interesting at CompUSA? (9/9 to 9/13/07)

The cheapest camera is a 6mp HP for $110 and a bonus $10 gift card. A 6mp Nikon Coolpix L-series is offered at $120 (no rebates). The CompUSA ad is annoying because it doesn't actually mention camera model numbers which is just plain silly. Anyways, enough ranting, back to the cameras! A Canon 7mp A-series is $150 and an 8mp A-series is $210. The superzoom Powershot S3 IS is $320, while the Sony megapixels by the pound W200 is down to $330 already. Last but not least, the Samsung NV11 (10mp, 5x optical) goes for $300 even.

PNY memory cards at two gig are $20, available in SD, microSD and other flavors.

The best deal price wise comparatively among other brick and mortar stores is probabyl the Sony Cybershot W200 at $330. But you have to ask yourself, do you really need 12mp on a 1/1.7" for a glorified P&S camera?

    Quick update: Canon A550 $140 @ CompUSA

This is a really quick update, the Canon Powershot A550 is currently on sale at Comp USA for $140. This special is part of CUSA's three day sale that starts today (Thursday) and ends at the close of business on Saturday. That's all :-)

Samsung GX1s with 18-55 lens $400 for a limited time only!

From now until 10am pacific time (1pm eastern) and today only, the Samsung GX1s DSLR with a standard 18-55 Schneider-branded Xenon lens is Amazon's lightning camera and photo deal for $400 even. Free shipping as well. To see this check your Amazon Gold Box. More details on this camera as well as links to three reviews at dcviews.com

Movers and shakers (because the price is right!)

To quickly check up on the deals mentioned below, visit the Amazon website here or click on the Amazon logos in this blog. Please keep in mind prices and camera availability can change at any time!

Want a real cheap camera with a dock? How about the HP R727 for $130 via the good people at J&R World? Hey what happened to the Nikon P5000? Did y'all buy every single one of them? A couple of sub-$200 general purpose cameras, the Olympus Stylus 760 for $191 and the Kodak V1003 (in many colors) for around $185, and the Kodak Z885 (reviewed in this month's Pop Photo magazine) for $$172. Speaking of Kodak, the Power 2000 RTC-148 Charger for Kodak KLIC-8000 is $20 from J&R. The Pentax Optio A30 is currently at $240 via Adorama.

Want to get started with a DSLR and a decent lens? Consider this: Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens for $570. If you prefer the more traditional two lens kit, CametaCamera has bundled it up for $740 as follows: Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera + Nikon 18-55mm AF-S Lens Outfit + Nikon 55-200mm ED AF-S Lens + Nikon SLR Gadget Bag + Transcend 2GB 150x SecureDigital Card + USB Card Reader

Cars are not the only popular hybrids! The Sanyo VPC-CG65 6MP MPEG-4 Flash Memory Digital Camcorder (Silver) currently goes for $355. One of the cutest cameras around is the Fuji Finepix Z5fd at $167 and as a bonus it uses a Fuji SuperCCD sensor, although it is the smaller 1/2.5" sensor so it does not have the noise advantage of the larger 1/1.7" sensors. Also under $200 is the Olympus FE-240 (at $195).

Grab this camera! The Panasonic FZ8 silver is just $250 from J&R World.

A big bundle from Camera Camera via Amazon for $360: Olympus Stylus 790 SW 7.1MP Digital Camera (Black) + Olympus 2GB xD-PictureTM Card + Olympus xD-Picture Card Reader/Writer + Spare Li-42B Battery for Olympus + Compact Digital Padded Carrying Case + Memory Card Storage Wallet + Flexible Tabletop Tripod + Digital Image Recovery Software + Microfiber Cleaning Cloth.

Do you have the power? If not, check the Canon BG-E2 Battery Grip for EOS 20D, 30D & 40D Digital SLR Camera and two Spare BP-511 Lithium-Ion Battery Packs for $185 from Cameta Camera via Amazon.

Office Max camera deals (9/9 to 9/15)

The biggest deal of all perhaps is the Sony A100 with 18-70 DT kit lens (aka A100K) with a 512mb memory stick for $650, no rebates. Not bad, but keep in mind a new mid-range Sony has just been announced, the A700 which costs $1400 or more.

From the rest of the cameras, we have the budget-IS-superzoom from Kodak at $250 (Kodak Z712IS), the Z885 with 1gb SD card and converter for $200, Sony S700 for $130, Sony T50 or T10 for $200 (not bad!), Fuji A800 with 1gb SD card and free accessory kit for $140 (not bad either!).

On the memory card front, a 2gb Olympus xD card is "just" $40, while a 2gb Sandisk SD is half that at $20. At $20 is where we find Sandisk's 1gb MS Pro Duo. A Toshiba 1gb SD card is just $10, while the CF equivalent is $13.

What's hot at Amazon right now?

Please note that prices and availability can (and will) change at any time and it's obviously beyond my control. If it was up to me, every camera would cost $99 :-)

Hot PreOrder: Sony Alpha A700 DSLR!
The latest DSLR to land is the Sony A700, now available for pre-order at Amazon for $1500 for body only (currently out of stock), and also for the kit with the 18-70 DT lens (so you get the kit lens for free!), or $1900 for the kit with the newer 16-105 DT.

Feature of the day is this big bundle from Cameta Cameras for $410: Olympus Stylus 770 SW 7.1 Megapixel Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom + Olympus M-1GB High Speed xD-Picture Card + Olympus xD-Picture Card Reader/Writer + Spare Li-40B Battery + Digital Camera Case.

Falling in price is the ?Nikon D40x body-only, this 10 megapixel DSLR is currently at $642. But if you prefer a more advanced Canon DSLR, the Nikon D200 with the 18-135mm AF-S DX f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF Nikkor Zoom Lens is $1800 via Adorama. Meanwhile the older Sony A700 DSLR with the 18-70 DT kit lens is sliding to $710.

Prefer a hybrid camera/camcorder? The Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 6MP Waterproof MPEG4 Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom, available in trendy colors, is $425. Continuing to slide, making it a nice bargain is the Kodak V1003, available in various colors, currently $169 via Beach Camera. The Samsung S1050 is just $186, trying to rival the Canon A-series (at least on paper - do read the reviews). The Fuji A900 is at $157 (check Steve Digicam's recent review on it). Camera and Photo at Staples (Sept 9-15)

  • Save 40% off clearance digital cameras! This could lead to some great bargains, but this depends on what cameras each store has marked as clearance cameras participating in this promotion.

On the DSLRs front, the Canon Digital Rebel XTi with kit lens is $800.

Canon digital camera combined purchase special after mail-in rebate: You get the Canon MP210 all-in-one printer for free via rebate. The Canon cameras advertised that qualify for this offer are the super zoom Canon S3IS at $330, Canon SD750 at $300, Canon SD1000 at $250, Canon A570IS at $200, Canon a560 at $150.

Outside the Canon camp, the Kodak C613 is $130 and the Sony S700 at $150. 2gb Sandisk SD card for $25.

To summarize, the clearance camera sale may product some bargains, so keep an eye out for those. But your mileage may vary (YMMV)

  • Camera deals at Fry's electronics this weekend

The usual free photo printer offer is still around, with the purchase of any digital camera you receive the Epson RX260 photo printer for free after mail-in rebate.

On the compact side of things, the Olympus FE-210 (7mp, 3x optical) with a free starter kit is just $117 (bargain alert!) while the Canon Poweshot A560 is another bargain at $137. The Sony W55 is $179. More trendy and fashionable is the Casio EX-Z77 at $197, available in blue, pink, silver or black. The more "luxurious" ultracompact SD750 comes with a free 1gb SD card (you can pick those up for around $10-$15) is at $277.

The battle of the big zooms continues at Fry's with the Canon S5 IS dropping way down to $377, which is exactly the same price the Olympus SP-550 is sold. (Know that a replacement for that, the SP-560 has been announced).

DSLR-wise, the Olympus E510 with the two lens kit (using the new smaller kit lenses) is $900 even. This is the only DSLR advertised in this circular.

On the accessories front, the 10" Gold Lantern DPF10102 digital photo frame is $188, the American Idol digital picture keychain gimmick is $17. The Ality AL-MD1 8" premium digital photo frame is $200.

And for those into camcorders, the JVC GR-D750 mini DV, with a free starter kit is $227, the Canon ZR850 mini DV is $327, while the JVC GZMG155US with a 30gb hard disk and a free camcorder starter kit is $500. More camcorders please? Okay, how about the Sony HDR-SR7 for $1200?

They are here: Pre-order the Nikon D300 at Amazon in three different kits!

What's hot at Amazon right now? (Thur afternoon)

As always please keep in mind that prices and availability of the products mentioned below can change at any time!

Let's get started with a budget camera with a mid-range MegaOIS lens, the Panasonic LZ3 silver is $129 via Beach Camera or the Panasonic LS70 for the same price directly from Amazon. It is an older model, but if you are bargain hunting, that's where you will find a lot of deals. But some people like to get the latest models, so if you are one of them consider the newly released Kodak M753 at $140 via Adorama. Available in various trendy and fashionable (and fashionably obnoxious) colors. More value from Kodak as the V803 is selling for $170, and yes this camera uses a 1/1.8" sensor, not the tiny 1/2.5" one.

Has enough of digital and want to do some film for a change? The Canon Sure Shot 130u II 35mm Camera Kit (Case, Film, and Battery) is just $116. Had enough of your camcorder? How about this high-definition hybrid, the Sanyo Xacti HD1000 4MP MPEG4 High Definition 1080i Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom? It is available for pre-order at $800. Quite a contrast in price and features eh? From film to hybrid digital! And if you prefer a really basic hybrid, the Isonic DV566 5MP Multifunction Pocket Digital Camcorder is just $118.

Now if you really want to spend as little a possible, the refurbished Canon A460 is $90. Or you can get a new camera for $137, the HP R742. But if you want to make a loud statement, the Nikon Coolpix S50 is $250 in RED!

As it is customary this time of the season, a number of new cameras have been announced and are in various stages of becoming available. So some older models may drop in price or even start disappearing. So keep that in mind when you are looking around.

Camera & Photo round-up at Amazon (Wedn afternoon)

So what are the movers and shakers right now at Amazon's Camera and Photo department? Well for one thing, keep in mind that about 20 hot selling camera models qualify for Amazon's free memory card with purchase promotion.

A big Sony bundle from Cameta Camera is offered at $800. Here it is: Sony Alpha A100 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera + Tokina 28-80mm AF Lens + Tokina 100-300mm AF Lens + Transcend 2GB 120X CompactFlash Card + USB Card Reader + Spare Replacement Battery for Sony NP-FM55H + SLR Gadget Bag Sony Alpha A100 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera + Tokina 28-80mm AF Lens + Tokina 100-300mm AF Lens + Transcend 2GB 120X CompactFlash Card + USB Card Reader + Spare Replacement Battery for Sony NP-FM55H + SLR Gadget Bag

More camera deals: The Canon 20D body only is at $869 from Beach Camera. If you like megapixels by the pound, at $214 you can get the 12 megapixel Kodak Z1275. Want a $100 camera? The HP M527 (6mp, 3x optical) is your $100 camera deal at Beach Camera. Want a wifi Canon? Not many choices but the SD430 is $250. The Panasonic FX30 blue (which starts at 28mm) is $225 via Beach Camera, not a bad price.

Want to have one of those cutesy Casios? For $160 at J&R World the Casio EX-Z600 is yours! From the same place the EX-S600 silver is $190. At $172 at Beach Camera you can have the Kodak V1003 in slate gray (the body color). At $200 even from Beach Camera you can get the HP Photosmart R927 (8mp, 3x optical). For an extra $19 you get the HP R967 which has a 10 megapixel sensor instead. Samsung continues to push its market share grabber cameras, the Samsung S730 is now $110 flat out without rebates or nothing else!

The Fuji S8000fd is already discounted even though it is still in pre-order status. Price pressure from the other superzooms selling for less or (Panasonic FZ18) or dropping in price (Sony H9, H7, Canon S5 IS) is getting to them!

    Cameras!
The Samsung S850 black (using 1/1.8" sensor, and 5x optical) is $155 via a 3rd party seller. DSLR hunters, the Olympus E410 with the 14-42 kit lens is $629 via Beach Camera. Please note though that the biggest bang for the buck among Olympus DSLR kits is the 2-lens kit (assuming of course you want the 2nd kit lens). The cheapest weatherproof Stylus model is the Stylus 760, the black version of which is available at Beach Camera for $$176. If you like slightly older models, the Nikon P3 is $199 at Ritz Online. Movers and Shakers at Amazon (Monday night)

So what do we have generating buzz among Amazon's savvy shoppers? The new Pentax Optio M40 has started shipping at a small discount and that was enough to bring in the buyers. The two generations ago model, the Optio M20 sells for $169 via Ritz Online (not the stores). Just $80 can get you the HP E337 (5mp, fixed lens). Or wait for the Kodak C513 with 5mp CMOS sensor and 3x optical zoom starting at $80! At $200 even is the Olympus FE-250 via Beach Camera. Love the Panasonic FX-series? The FX10 blue is $170 via Vanns of Montana. Like the cutesy Casios? The EX-Z1050 is $206 via Beach Camera. Can't complain about the price on the Fuji Z5fd (wine red) for $161.

On the DSLR front, the Sony A100H (with the 18-200 lens) is at $964. The Canon EOS 30D with the standard kit lens can be had for $1520 via Adorama. The really compact (for a DSLR) Olympus E410 with the compact 2-lens kit is $732. Interesting price, eh? Contrast that with the Nikon D40x 2-lens kit that goes for $928 via Cameta Camera.

And now to the cameras. The prices mentioned here are before the $75 mail-in rebate!. The rebate transforms regular prices into bargains. For example the very fun Panasonic TZ3 is $350 ($275 AR), while the very popular Canon Elph SD1000 is $250 ($175AR making it a super bargain!. The SD750 is $300 ($225AR) while the Canon S3 IS is $350 ($275AR). Sony's answer the Cybershot H7 is $400 ($325AR) and the Canon Digital Rebel XTi 400D with 18-55 EF-S lens is $800 ($725 AR). As you can see the $75 rebate transforms boring prices into BARGAINS!

Labor day weekend at Fry's Electronics (9/2 to 9/8)

A Sony digital camera with a 3x optical zoom for $139 at a retail store? How the mighty have fallen or how the prices have fallen? Either way, it's our gain! The Canon SD750 with 1gb SD card is $297, while the Olympus SP-550uz is $388, but please note that a new model the SP-560uz has just been announced.

The only DSLR advertised si the Sony A100 with 18-70 DT lens and a free starter kit that appears to include a bag, mini tripod, memory card wallet and probably a cleaning kit or something like that. For $750.

A mini digital picture photo frame, 1.8" screen size for $30, while a 10" Gold Lantern DPF10102 is $197 (includes 128mb memory, and built-in speaker along with remtoe control)

Best Buy labor day weekend specials (9/2 to 9/8)

While the rest of the items are good for the whole week, these two are only good today and Monday (Labor Day): Kodak C613 in a Best Buy exclusive copper color (I call it "rusty pumpkin") at just $110 dollars. This is a 7mp, 3x optical, SD and AA-based entry-level camera with a 2.5" LCD. As you can imagine because of the price, they may run out of it real fast. Also a 2-day sale on the 2gb PNY P-SD2G-RF3 SD memory card for $20.

And now to the items that are good for the whole week: First we have two Best Buy Package Deals, the Canon Digital Rebel XTi 400D with the 18-55 EF-S lens and a SAndisk 2gb Ultra II CF card (SDCFH-2048-901), and the 200DG gadget bag for Canon EOS cameras for $835 all together without rebates. The 2nd bundle features the cutesy Casio Exilim EX-Z77 white finish, with a Lowerpro Napoli 5 camera case and the Digipower BP-NP20 li-ion battery for $230 all together without rebates. BB also informs us that this color (white) is an exclusive Best Buy color.

And now to the regular listings. If you buy any camera from the ones listed below you get a free Best Buy Photo Center prepaid card with a preloaded value of $25. You can also get 4x6 prints at 15c at the BB photocenter. Bargain hunters have a choice of two cameras at $130, the Olympus FE-210 and the Nikon Coolpix L11. A more versatile camera at $180 is the underrated Panasonic LX7 silver (DMC-LX7S). A slim Sony W90 is $280 and the Canon SD850 IS is $350. And if you heard a loud drop, it was the price of the Canon S5 IS who is now down to $400 because of competition from all the 15x to 18x superzooms out there.

And now some chips, but don't put these chips in salsa, put them in your digital camera! The 4gb SDHC PNY P-SDHC4GB4-RF3 is $45, while the 2gb MicroSD from PNY, P-SDU2G-RF3 is $35. A 1gb Fuji xD Type M is $25, and a 1gb Sandisk MS Pro Duo, SDMSPD-1024-A10 is $20. And one accessory of note, the 8" Westinghouse LCD digital picture frame, DPF-0802 is $130

Also be aware that all digital camera purchases $299 and up qualify for 12 months of no interest on the Best Buy card. You still have to make a monthly payment though. And this concludes our Best Buy coverage for today!

Labor Day weekend camera deals @ Circuit City (9/2-9/8)

The lowest price model advertised is the Nikon Coolpix L11, with a free 512mb SD memory card for $130. Next up is the Sony S700 for $150 at 7 megapixels. If you prefer cutesy fashionable cameras, the Casio EX-Z75 red is just $180 (with a 512mb free SD card), while the very popular Canon SD1000 (with 1gb SD card) is $250. The Sony W90 in trendy black (W90B) and a 1gb MS Pro Duo is $280, and at $300 even is the ultra-bijou T-series model, the Sony T20 pink, along with a 1gb MS card.

The Canon SD900 with 1gb SD card is $400, which is exactly how much Sony is asking for the Cybershot H7 with 1gb MS. (By the way the H2 is on sale at $200 at Office Max). If you prefer a long zoom on a budget, the Olympus SP-510 is at $250 wiht a free 512mb card.

The only DSLR advertised is the Canon Digital Rebel XTi 400D with the 18-55 EF-S lens and a 1gb card at $800 even.

As far as memory cards, a 2gb Sandisk SD card SDSDB2048A10 is on sale for $25 (not bad, but not the lowest). The Ultra II version is $30 (model SDSDH2048901). The 4gb SHDC model SDSDBR4096A10 is $45. It comes with a free reader (not sure if it is a USB stick style or more traditional, i'm guessing the former since it is cheaper and smaller). Incidentally Sandisk's Mobile Mate 5 in 1 reader/writer is $13, model SDDR104A11M.

CompactFlash is represented by the 4gb Sandisk Ultra II (SDCFH4096901) at $60, and the 2gb version, SDCFH2048901 at $35. And Sony fans may be interestedin Sandisk's 4gb MS Pro Duo, SDMSPD4097A50 at $60, or the 2gb version, SDMSPD2048A10 at $35. Olympus and Fuji fans can get the 2gb Sandisk type M xD card, SDXDM2048A10 for $40, or the 1gb xD type-o-M for $25, model SDXDM1024A10.

And since we are on the topic of Sandisk, these model names may sound bizarre and unnecessarily long, but it can help you decipher the product: SD stands for Sandisk, then CF/MS/SD stands for the memory format, 1024/2048/4096 are the storage size in megabytes, followed by the individual model name.

The only accessory of note is a 7" SmartyPants SmartParts digital picture frame, with genuine wooden frame they claim. This is just $60 with no rebates, and 480x320 screen resolution. The model # is SmartParts SPDPF70EW. And this concludes our CC coverage for today!

Office Max Labor day weekend sales (9/2 - 9/8)

On the memory card front, a 2gb Lexar SD is $20, or $13 for 1gb. A 1gb Olympus xD is $20 (twice as much as an SD card!), and exactly the same price as a 1gb Lexar Memorystick pro duo blah blah platinum II.

Disappointing Labor day camera deals at Staples (9/2-9/8)

A rather weak showing by Staples on labor day weekend in the digital camera front: The Sony W55 with 1gb free memory card is at $200 even. For $30 less, you can get the Olympus FE-230. But for even less and using the standard SD/MMC memory card, the Nikon Coolpix L11 can be yours for $130. Some memory card sales as well with the 2gb Sandisk Ultra II for $30. Staples 100pk 4x6 glossy paper is just $5 (5c per print plus cost of ink of course). And this week, you get a free Staples calculator with any purchase over $25.
