New Year's Eve camera and photo deals at Amazon

January is usually a good place for older camera models to be discounted as their replacement storm out of CES and PMA 2008. While it's not January yet, it doesnt' stop us from digging around Amazon to see what we find.

And what we find is a $500 bundle from Cameta Cameras with the following goodies: Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera + Nikon 18-55mm AF-S Lens + Nikon SLR Gadget Bag + Transcend 4GB SDHC SecureDigital Card + USB Card Reader. Please note that this camera expects the focus motor in the lens, so it won't play nice with older lenses.

This lovely is also available with the 18-135 DX mid-range lens for $660, sold and shipped by Amazon.

Sadly we have to report a reserve deal, Panasonic camera have jumped up in price instead of down! For example the Panasonic FX55 is $300 and the Panasonic F33 is $250. However the older Panasonic FX30 remains "stable" at J&R World for $200.

Nikon D200 fans may be interested in the body only available for $1400 from Adorama and Friends. This is $400 less than the Nikon D300 body only - assuming you can find the D300 in-stock and at the list price. A small number of retailers are taking advantage of supply and demand economics and offering the D300 and D3 at a 30% premium over the list price.

The pink Samsung S630 has a small premium over its other colors, it sells for $97, which is still under $100 the last time we checked with our calculators. A more "grown-up" model is the Samsung S850, black, using a 5x lens and 1/1.8" 8mp sensor, going for just $152.

A small discount of the Canon 1D Mark III as it "drops" down to $4349.

More Canon as the Canon 30D with the 18-55 EF-S lens is offered for $900 by Adorama. Body only is offered for $800 even from Adorama as well. Then again you can get the Canon 40D for about $350 more, so you have a bit of a tough choice to make.

Back to the shiny silvers we go now with the Olympus Stylus 790 SW 7.1MP Digital Camera (Black) + Olympus 2GB xD-PictureTM Card + xD-Picture Card Reader/Writer + Spare Li-42B Battery for Olympus + Compact Digital Padded Carrying Case + Memory Card Storage Wallet + Flexible Tabletop Tripod + Digital Image Recovery Software + Microfiber Cleaning Cloth super bundle offered for $330 by Cameta Cameras. A good bundle for someone starting up in phootography, or at least being new to the xD cult.

If you insist on a Canon A430, you can get one for $120 from J&R World. We recommend that you get a Canon A570IS for around $150 instead, or at least a Canon A560 for around $130. Avoid the A4xx is what we are trying to say. Because the A5xx are better :)

Want to be a bit old school with the Casio EX S600, in silver? Pay J&R World $170 and its yours! Meanwhile the Casio EX-Z77 blue is offered by RitzCamera (online) for $159 or so. More Exilims, the Casio EX Z700 is $180 through J&R World, a place where Casio cameras seem to sell well.

Meanwhile we have another bundle from Cameta Cameras, this one at $280 for a long zoom: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom + Transcend 2GB SecureDigital (SD) Card + USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + (4) - AA Rechargeable Batteries w/ Charger + Digital Camera Case. Fries with that?

Can you blame them? For $530 after a $100 mail-in rebate you can get a Pentax K10D body only and use almost any prehistoric K-related lens on it. Not to mention that it has sensor-shift image stabilization!

The Sony A100H - the one with the 18-200 f3.5-6.3 lens is down to $935. Keep in mind the A100 is their first DSLR, not the newer Sony A700.

We conclude with the lovely Canon SD1000 offered at a mere $161 and the lovely Sony T20 black for $250 via J&R World.

Happy New Year!

Last day of the year deals at J&R World

The good people of J&R World of the Big Apple are saying goodbye to 2007 with some nice deals of camera and photo interest.

First up, something to feed your digital cameras! PNY 4GB SD High Capacity Memory Card - $24.99

The next item is not a swiss army knife, but it functions as both as USB flash drive and as an SD memory card reader! Sandisk SDDR-104-A11M USB MobileMate SD Plus Reader - $9.99

And then a little something-something to showcase your pictures: Smartparts SPDPF70EWB1 7-inch LCD Black Digital Picture Frame - $59.99

>

And what a better way to backup your pictures? Why some good Maxell T-160GX Standard VHS Tape (Package of 3). In case it wasn't obvious, this one is a joke :)

Sunday camera shopper at Amazon

I'm sure you may have noticed that the hot deals have dried up the last couple of days. After a whirlwind that included the Sigma SD14 price-cut, the Ricoh GX100 bundle at $629, Panasonic cuts across the board, Samsung price cuts and such, we are now back to more "modest" camera specials.

The fastest mover at Amazon right now is the Sony CyberShot DSC-T200 (Silver) 8.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom + High Speed USB 2.0 Memory Stick (MS) Card Reader + Digital Camera Case offered by Cameta Cameras for $370.

For xD-based users, the Olympus Stylus 810 (older model) is offered by Adorama for $188. This is an 8mp 1/1.8", 3x optical zoom, weatherproof shiny silver camera. Or for $150 you can get the Olympus FE 240 from J&R World. Or the newer Olympus Stylus 820 for $240 from Tigerdirect.

The Sony T20 has gone up $20 the last few days, now at $270 through Cameta cameras for the silver model. But not the Sony T20 pink! That is offered by Cameta Cameras for $240.

At $425 Cameta Cameras have bundled the following: Olympus SP-560 UZ 18x Ultra Zoom 8MP Digital Camera + Olympus 2GB xD-Picture Card + 4 AA Rechargeable Batteries with Rapid Charger + Digital Camera Case + Cameta Bonus Accessory Kit.

The Samsung NV15 remains at $206, not a bad price for this 1/1.7"-ish NV-style camera!

RitzCameras, the online store, has a nice outfit of the Nikon L15 for $129.

DSLR Deals
At $600, Cameta Cameras has bundled this ...rebelious offer: Canon Digital Rebel XTi (Black) 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Outfit Box) + Transcend 4GB 133X CompactFlash (CF) Card + Spare Replacement Battery for Canon NB-2LH + Cameta Incognito 1000 Deluxe SLR Gadget Bag. Not that no lens is included!

A $50 discount from OneCall is tempting users for the Sony A700 with the 18-70 DT lens - at $1450 instead of $1500.

Lots of camera deals at Ritz and Wolf Camera stores this week!

We have lots of interesting deals (for a change) from Ritz and Wolf Camera stores this week. Their four-page ad in the Sunday paper is loaded! So let's get started:

Deals under $100
The 6mp, 3x optical Samsung S630 black is offered for just $80. This price probably beats a lot of internet retailers as well. Not a bad deal at all!

At $90 you can get teh Nikon Coolix L11, with similar specs and a 2.4" LCD.

If you really want to hit rock bottom, for $40 you can get the View Point VU camera with a 1.5" LCD (not a typo, 1.5") for $40. This is a 3mp camera without an optical zoom lens. Limit 3 per customer (as if!). I would recommend getting one of the two mentioned above instead of this, or search eBay for a used camera from a reliable brand if you want to pay under $50.

Deals over $100
The Nikon Coolpix L15 (8mp, 3x optical) is offered at $130 in a special outfit that includes a camera case, an Energizer charger and two Energizer AA NiMH batteries. Available in pink or black. This is a good thing since you need to use NiMH with digital cameras - assuming you don't have any.

Also at $130, another nice price is the Panasonic LZ6 black, featuring a 6x MegaOIS lens and 7mp. Ritz claims they have the exclusive black version of this camera. I don't know if that is true :)

At $150 you can get the older Fuji A900. There is a newer version, the A920, but I am not sure what their differences are (if any).

More interesting is the Fuji F45fd, a different color version of the F40fd, using the 8mp Fuji SuperCCD sensor, which is the closest sensor relative to their critically acclaimed 6mp SuperCCD Fuji sensor. This is however a basic P&S camera, it's more like the F20 in terms of functionality than the F31fd. Oh Fuji, will you ever learn? :) The price is $180 after a $50 mail-in rebate. Interesting?

At $160 we have another nice deal, a Ritz exclusive kit they claim, the Casio EX-Z77, in silver, pink or blue. The kit includes a mini tripod, a case, software and a ...YouTube t-shirt!. I kid you not. This is to celebrate Casio's new YouTube feature. Buy a YouTube t-shirt and get a camera free? The price is $160 for this kit. Thsi is not a bad camera either for what it is: a stylish compact carry-around camera!

More from Casio, the Exilim Z1200 jumps on the 12 megapixel bandwagon at $280, making it a $23.50 per megapixel camera. Just like buying groceries by the pound, we will soon be buying cameras by the megapixel count ;-) (Oh wait, we are already doing that!)

At $200 you can get the Fuji S5700 (aka S700). Unless you have a specific reason to get this one, I would recommend getting one of the dozens of models available that offer image stabilization, and don't cost much more such as the Panasonic TZ3 and FZ8, Canon SX100 or S3 IS, Kodak Z712IS or Z812IS, Sony H3, etc.

And now a trio of sub-$150 models, the Olympus Stylus 760 (7mp, 3x) at $150, the Nikon L14 at $110, and the Pentax Optio M20 (older, AA-based) for $130. Each one has its trade-offs and they are not "young models", but if you shop around you may find these three not a bad deal for what they offer. If you don't mind buying a model from 2006 or earlier that is.

DSLR Deals
Buy one Nikon D80 get one Quantaray 55-200 AF zoom lens FREE! That's what Ritz/Wolf are offering. The D80 body only is at $900 and at $1000 with the 18-55 kit lens. Given that you can get those kits only for $100 less each, the question becomes: how much do you value the free Quantaray 55-200 lens? If more than $100, then this maybe a good price. If under $100, then not so much. Quantaray is usually made by one of the Japanese lens manufacturers are rebranded to the Ritz-brand (Qauntaray)

No gimmick lenses, but a $100 mail-in rebate will get you the Pentax K100D with the 18-55 DA lens for $700. Higher than reputable online retailers for sure.

The Nikon D40x with the 18-55 kit lens is offered at $650. Beware this (and the D40) do not play well with older lenses - they expect the focus motor in the lens.

On the Canon side of the aisle, the Canon Digital Rebel XT 350D with the 18-55 EF-S lens is offered at $550 with a FREE bonus Quantaray 55-200 zoom lens.

Last but not least, the return of Olympus to Ritz/Wolf continues with two specials: The Olympus E410 with the 14-42 kit lens for $500 even, or the two lens kit for $600. The second lens in the two-lens-kit being the 40-150mm. Both are 4/3rds lenses so they work on all 4/3rds DSLRs, but they are "2x" so you can't really use them on your OM-based Olympus film SLRs (not to mention that they are not compatible). But it is compatible the other way round: You can use an OM-adapter and mount OM-lenses on 4/3rds cameras!

Specials with all digital cameras
Ritz/Wolf are offering a big bundle of specials. The specials might or might not be of interest (or of use) to you, so while their list value is $400, their actual value to you personally may range from $0 to $400 :-) Here are some of the items featured in the bundle:

  • No interest until November 2008 with digital camera or camcorder purchases of $299 or more
  • Free personalized photo book
  • Free Epson Photo printer after two mail-rebates of $75 and $25
  • Or instead you can get a free Canon photo printer after three mail-in rebates totaling $130.
  • Free camera classes - selection varies depending on your local stores
  • Free RitzPix, EZ Print & Share software *cough* *cough*
  • Free Big Print Inkjet paper

    Accessories and such
Two Quantaray digital picture frames are offered with a bonus 512mb Sandisk SD memory card. A 7" version for $90 and a 10.4" version for $180.

They have 50% off sale on telescopes and holiday gifts, and 20% off on clearance camcorders and 30% off on clearance frames and albums.

They also have an SD and mini-SD offer, but their offer is poorly worded and not clear whether it's an SD or mini-SD card or both offered.

They also offer a two-pack of Big Print 2gb SD cards for $40 and they throw in a free ...pedometer to sweeten the deal. Fries with that? :)

Their print prices continue to be a messy twist of non-sensical terms and conditions. You can get the low prices advertised if you give them the keys to your car, your 401k and your TV and buy 50 or more prints ;-)

Samsung i85 at $235 and other specials (Amazon)

Samsung is using its secret weapon to entice people away from the Sony T-series, and the Coolpixies: price cuts! Their 5x folded optics Samsung i85, in silver or black is now offered at $235, well under the Sony T200.

Meanwhile Cameta Cameras are hard at work creating another giant bundle, this one for $770 and it includes: Olympus Evolt E510 10MP Digital SLR Camera with Olympus 14-42mm Zuiko Lens + Olympus 40-150mm Zuiko Lens [Outfit] + Spare BLM-1 Battery for Olympus + Transcend 4GB 133X CompactFlash (CF) Card + High Speed USB 2.0 CompactFlash (CF) Card Reader + Cameta Incognito 1000 Deluxe SLR Gadget Bag (fits E300, E330, E410, E500 & E510). Fries with that? :)

Hey! We've got a Sanyo camera! That's right! A Sanyo digital camera, not a hybrid! The Sanyo E760, avaialable in pink, is sold and shipped by Amazon for the price of $126. This is your typical 7mp, 3x optical zoom P&S compact camera.

Want an old Nikon P3 - the wifi capable one? Beach Camera offers them for $248 each.

Tigerdirect offers the Kodak M853 for $125, in blue, and other assorted colors.

Meanwhile the highly sought after Nikon D300 with the 18-135DX lens is available for the list price of $2100. The 18-135 DX is a mid-range lens, not an entry-level kit lens!

Speaking of Nikon, the lovely Nikon D200 with the 18-200 DX VR lens is offered at $2000 even by Cameta Cameras. This creates an interesting trade-off for people considering this and the D300 mentioned just above!

Canon's latest fun zoom is bundled together for $280 at Cameta as follows: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom + Transcend 2GB SecureDigital (SD) Card + USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + (4) - AA Rechargeable Batteries w/ Charger + Digital Camera Case Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom + Transcend 2GB SecureDigital (SD) Card + USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + (4) - AA Rechargeable Batteries w/ Charger + Digital Camera Case . Wowie!

If $100 is all you want to spend, the GE A730 is offered at that price by Adorama. If you want to give the GE cameras a try that is!

Had enough of digital? Want a quick gateway with a film SLR? Then for $190 you can get the Canon EOS Rebel K2 35mm SLR Camera with EF 28 to 90mm II USM Lens. Remember to feed it fresh film and put a new "memory card" every 24 or 36 exposures ;-)

If you like the Fuji A920 you may like the $150 price from J&R World! Also from J&R, at $200 you can get the white Sony W80.

Consistently under $150 is the Fuji Z10fd available in multiple colors and "eating" both xD and SD/MMC memory cards. And it looks trendy too!

If you want to spend even less and have xD memory cards, at $129 thru Beach Cameras you can get the Fuji Z5fd. Takes xD only and uses an older SuperCCD sensor. The new Z10fd uses a "standard" sensor.

Meanwhile the Canon A570IS is a nice price at $150. An all-around AA-based PSAM-based digital camera! Not for the jetset crowd, but more for the hands-on practical crowd!

At $935 you can get the Sony A100 bundled with the 18-200 f3.5-6.3 Sony lens. This is affectionately called the Sony A100H kit.

And this concludes this update! Stay tuned for more and be sure to subscribe to our RSS feed! The link is at the top of this column! We are using the Feedburner to streamline the subscription of our RSS feed.

The Panasonic FZ8 with RAW is now up to $250, sold and shipped by Amazon. This camera was offered as low as $220 before Christmas, but has now bounced back up.

Late night camera shopping at Amazon

While some people are getting drunk, others are grabbing some nice camera deals. If you are reading this you are probably in the latter group, unless you are surfing the web at your local watering hole :)

Pink is the Samsung S730 offered at $120. The sleek Samsung i85, black, is offered at $242, clearly undercutting the Sony T200 in terms of price. Speaking of undercutting, the Samsung L73 continues to be available at $100 in silver or black.

Handy and affordable at $8 is the Zing MPBK1 Medium Drawstring Lens Pouch (Black).

Meanwhile the lovely Canon SD800 IS, which starts at 28mm wide is offered at $230. Also lovely at the price of $147 (through Adorama) is the Nikon S200. Also lovely (if you like it) the Canon SD40, twilight sepia (brown) is offered for $160 by Cameta Cameras.

The Kodak V1003, silver, is avaiable for $160, a nice price for a 1/1.8" 10mp camera!

Camera deals at Staples next week (12/30/07 to 1/5/08)

Staples is in a hurry to let everyone know about their next week's specials! So let's see what kind of specials they have in the world of photography and imaging.

First up, two nicely priced cameras, at $130 each, the Canon Powershot A560 (great camera for the price) and the red Kodak M853, a LiIon-based P&S camera.

At $150 you can get goodbye to HP digital cameras and get the HP Mz67, which has an 6x optical zoom lens, but of course no stabilization.

Moving on to the Elphs (no, not LOTR), the older Canon SD750 is available at $220, which is a reasonable price for brick and mortar and the loveable Canon Sd1000 is waiting for buyers at $180.

Digital photo frames seem to be a hot item this season and the 7" Pandigital digital picture frame is offered at $80. Of course the latest trend in these is to offer 15" digital picture frames, which once upon a time sounded unthinkable, but now you can get 19" LCD monitors for around $150 and 22" for around $250, so a 15" picture frame is much more "affordable".

    Memory Card Chips, no Salsa
For $45 you have the option of getting the 4gb standard Sandisk SD memory card. At $35 you can get a 2gb Sandisk Ultra II Compactflash card or a Memory Stick Pro Duo. A 2gb SD card however will only cost $25, and that's not even a good price, but still cheaper than the MemoryStick, xD, and CF.

Camera shopping at night on the Amazon

We start today with a mid-range DSLR bundle, the Nikon D200 with the 18-135 DX lens is offered for $1664 by Cameta Cameras. This is $135 less than a body only Nikon D300. The 18-135 DX is a mide-range lens

Staying with Cameta Cameras, for $500 you can get this bundle, Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera + Nikon 18-55mm AF-S Lens + Nikon SLR Gadget Bag + Transcend 4GB SDHC SecureDigital Card + USB Card Reader.

On the other end of the spectrum, for $133 you can get the Pentax E40. This is an 8mp entry-level 3x optical zoom camera.

Another bundle from Cameta Cameras for $530 is the Canon PowerShot G9 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 6x Optical Zoom + Transcend 4GB 150x SecureDigital (SD) Card + High Speed USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + Spare NB-2LH Battery for Canon + Digital Camera Case. Believe me you are going to need the spare battery as it is rated at around 250 CIPA, which is something that annoys classic G-series camera owners who are used to almost double that capacity from the original G-series.

Now back to the budget cameras, the Kodak V1003 in slate gray is available for $157.

Meanwhile at $935 you can get the Sony A100H. The A100H is a Sony A100 with the 18-200 Sony lens.

For K-mount owners or people looking for an affordable DSLR you can get the Samsung GX1s with the 18-55 Xenon lens for $350. The GX1s is the Samsung version of the Pentax *istDS2.

For $200 you can get the Panasonic FX30, taupe color, sold and shipped by Amazon!

And a little something for our film fans, for $40 through Adorama you can get the Lomography Fisheye 35mm Camera (Silver)

Price drop! The red Sony T200 is now under $400, offered by Vanns of Montana on Amazon for $390.

    And we conclude with a $70 accessory from Adorama, the Nikon EH-5A AC Adapter for D40, D50, D70, D70s, D100, & D300.

Memory card specials at J&R World (Feed your digital cameras!)

Your digital cameras are hungry! They need some food! Give them some new memory cards to "chew" on :)

J&R World has two memory card offers, first up a 2gb Sandisk SD Memory Card for $20, and then a 4gb PNY SD High Capacity Memory Card (SDHC) for $25. Yes, just S25, which makes it just over $6 per gigabyte. Not a bad price!

Shipping is only $1 per memory card, but there is a minimum $2.95 S&H charge per order. So if you buy one memory card and nothing else, S&H is $2.95. If you buy 3 memory cards then S&H is $3. This "encourages" the buyers to buy more.

Continuing with the storage theme, for $150 and with free shipping they are offering the Western Digital WDG1C5000N My Book Premium 500GB FireWire USB External Harddrive. Good for backups or storing pictures while on the road or in the studio, or perhaps a portable "digital exhibition" where you carry your best photos with you all the time. You never know when there might be an opportunity to plug into a computer or HDTV to showcase your work or art!

You may call this an extra storage option as well (if all else fails), but it's most popular for it's singing capabilities. We are talking of course about the 80gb Apple iPod Classic for $230 with free shipping.

Now if you really want a small one for the music and not pretend you are getting it as a storage device, then the 8gb Apple iPod touch may be for you at $280 and FREE Shipping. This will also make you look trendy ;-)

    Night shopping at Amazon

Be careful not to stumble upon any empty boxes :) First up we have a cutesy ultracompact bundle, for $295 from Cameta Cameras, the Casio Exilim EX-S880 (Red) Digital Camera with 4GB SDHC Memory Card + NP-20 Battery + Case + Cameta Bonus Accessory Kit. This is a nice ready-to-go bundle, with all the basic accessories you would need for this type of a camera. The EX-S880 uses the ceramic Casio lenses so you can get bonus "gadget" points when you show it to your firneds :)

Meanwhile a big sale on the Ricoh GX100. The best special at the moment is an offer that includes the GX100, the VF1 view-finder kit, and a few extras, all grouped together for $629, sold by Adorama on Amazon.

    If you have Nikon gear but not a Nikon bag, join the fan club for $30 for the Nikon Digital & Film SLR System Case Gadget Bag for D300, D200, D100, D80, D70s, D70, D50, D40x, D40, N55, N65, N75, N80, N90s & F100 from Cameta Camears.

Want to stock up on screen protectors? For $4 you can get a 12-pack of Digital Concepts Digital Camera and Camcorder Universal Screen Protectors (12 Pack)

Meanwhile the 5x optical zoom Samsung NV11 is offered for $265 from Adorama. This is more expensive than the newer NV15 because it offers a 5x instead of a 3x optical zoom lens. Neither one is stabilized.

If you like hybrids, for $355 you may want to research the Samsung SC-X300L Flash Memory Divx Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom and Wired External Camera. This is more of camcorder-like than digitalcamera-like though. Meanwhile the PSAM-friendly Samsung S1050, black is $160. Same color, but for less, but also with a smaller sensor is the Samsung S85 at $125. This is not to be confused with the S850 which uses a 1/1.8ish" sensor, as opposed to the 1/2.x" sensor of the S85. Looks like Samsung is running out of names :)

A $270 "fun zoom" bundle from Cameta: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom + USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + (4) - AA Rechargeable Batteries w/ Charger + Digital Camera Case. Not bad at all!

Another giant Canon bundle this one for $10 more, from the same seller, Canon PowerShot A720 IS 8.0 Megapixel Compact Digital Camera with 6x Optical Zoom + Transcend 4GB 150x SecureDigital (SD) Card + High Speed USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + (4) - 2700mAh AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries w/5 Hour 110-220v Charger + Digital Camera Case . Fries with that? :)

The deliciously colored Fuji Z10fd are available around $150, depending on color, flavor and retailer :)

And this concludes our Boxing Day digital camera deal hunting special. Stay tuned for more updates tomorrow (Thursday!).

And if you don't want to miss an update, be sure to  Subscribe to the Camera Deals blog with your favorite news reader

Sigma SD14 at $650 and other camera and photo deals at Amazon

So let's see what the Boxing Day afternoon has brought to us bargain hunters of the Great River (Amazon).

Spotlight deal: Sigma SD14 at $650
First up, we have Foveon for the masses! The Sigma SD14 is available - body only - for $650 through Cameta Cameras. You can alternately get a different bundle, also from Cameta on Amazon, for $950. This one includes the Sigma 18-200 DC OS (optical stabilization) lens. The lens on its own costs about $500, which puts the SD14 at $450 in the $950 kit. Your choice :)

    Other deals
The once trendy SD40 is offered as a bundle from Cameta Cameras for $200: Canon PowerShot SD40 ELPH (Sepia) Digital Camera with Spare NB-4L + Padded Carrying Case. Not a bad deal if you happen to like this older camera.

$190 can get you an Olympus Stylus 780 for $190, the silver variety. This is stabilized of sorts.

If you have Canon mount DSLRs and looking for a flash, $176 gets you a Sigma EF-530 DG ST Electronic Flash for Canon DSLR.

    Something Nikon, Something Refurbished
The now legendary Nikon D100 is available for $600, refurbished, sold by Adorama on Amazon. Again, please keep in mind this one is refurbished!

Boxing Day camera specials at Amazon

Is your house full of boxes from all the gift unwrapping? Please recycle them to make room for all the after XMas bargains and specials!

Such as the $90 HP M547 camera, a 6mp, 3x optical zoom camera, a piece of HP history, since HP will be outsourcing their digital camera production to a 3rd party in 2008.

At almost twice that ($157) you can get the cosmic blue Kodak V803 which uses a 1/1.8" sensor and it is a "last season" model.

$225 is a blue Olympus Stylus 820 from J&R World, although we recommend the 830 because it has stabilization. But if you don't care for stabilization, then this is the one to get!

Even more stylish but only $206 is the Samsung NV15, using a 10mp 1/1.8"-ish sensor with NV-style principles.

Meanwhile at $150 you can get the Panasonic FX12 silver at $150. This is an older Lumix model.

    DSLRs and friends
Camera Cameras is offering a big bundle for $790, the Nikon D40x 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm AF-S DX Nikkor Lens Outfit + Nikon 55-200mm ED AF-S Lens + Transcend 2GB 150x SecureDigital Card + High Speed USB 2.0 Card Reader + Nikon SLR Gadget Bag. A ready to go outfit! Please note that only one of the two lenses is a "digital lens". The 55-200 is a full frame lens which means you can use with your old Nikon film SLRs as well (or the Nikon D3 but I suspect you are going to be feeding the D3 more expensive glass).

Not to be outdone by Nikon, there is a giant Canon bundle from Cameta Cameras at $1500: Canon EOS 40D 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera + Tamron 28-80mm Lens + Tamron 70-300mm Lens + Spare BP-511 Replacement Battery + Transcend 4GB 133X CompactFlash (CF) Card + High Speed USB 2.0 CompactFlash (CF) Card Reader + Cameta Incognito Deluxe Gadget Bag. This bundle as you can see uses Tamron 35mm full frame lenses, not the typical kit lenses found with DSLRs. So keep that in mind :)P

Crutchfield offers the Sony A700 with the 18-70 DT lens for $1500, a DSLR that became more popular after the dpreview duet review of the A700 by Simon and Phil was published.

$447 after a $100 mail-in rebate will get you the Pentax K100D Super with the 18-55 DA lens. This camera uses AA batteries, has sensor shift image stabilization, supports K-mount lenses and the new SWD lenses and has dust bunnies protection (sensor vibration dust cleaning attempt). But it has a 6 megapixel sensor.

    Accessories and Everything Else!
For $19 you can get the Ambico V-0640, a 40-inch Fashion Tripod with Two-Way Panhead and Quick Shoe, sold and shipped by Amazon herself.

If you love your Casio ultracompacts, for $15 you can get the Red Designer Leather Case from Adorama. A perfect match for the Casio "bijouness". Or if you have the stylish Samsung NV-series camers, then for $13.50 from Adorama you can get the Samsung LC-1 Leather Case for Samsung NV and L Series Digital Cameras.

Speaking of bags, your lens needs one too: Zing SPBK1 Small Drawstring Lens Pouch (Black) for just $10, sold & shipped by Amazon. It has one customer review posted.

And one more bag for $16: Samsonite 708BK Microfiber Compact Video Bag.

$50 and a 3-4 week delay gets you the Lomography Diana+ Medium Format Camera.

$40 gets you the .... Hello Kitty Digital Camera with Bling from Target. Ships in 2-3 days.

Looking for Nikon binos? How about the Nikon Action 16x50 EX ATB Binocular for $172?

And for the camcorder fans we have a $200 JVC special from J&R World: JVC GR-DA30US MiniDV Camcorder with 30x Optical Zoom.

Dress for photographic successs with the CampCo Combat Photo Vest - Khaki - XXL for $30 through Adorama.

And light the way with this $359 Metz MZ 58311C 58 AF-1C Flash for Canon Cameras, also from Adorama.

Power-up your Nikon D80 with the Nikon MB-D80 Battery Grip for D80 Digital SLR Camera + Spare EN-EL3e Lithium-Ion Battery Pack for $150 via Cameta Cameras.

Is this a good price? The Canon 1D Mark III for $4438, sold and shipped by Amazon herself.

$144 is what Calumet (not Cameta) offers for the Olympus FE 240.

Digital what? How about a 35mm film SLR for $343? The Canon EOS Elan 7ne SLR Camera (Body Only).

Wheee! $120 is all it takes for the silver P&S Samsung L73.

By the way the discounts we saw last week on some of the Panasonics have been taken back now. The Panasonic TZ3 is now $235 for blue. Previous low price was $220 for silver. The Panasonic FZ8 is now $250, previous low was $230.

Love the Sony T20? You can get it for aorund $250 in different colors from different vendors, all of course selling on the Amazon marketplace platform, which is all the cameras mentioned in this long post.

If you love the Pentax Z10 and don't find the reviews/samples objectionable, write a cyber check for $218 and it's all yours!

    And a nice deal! The Samsung NV15, 10mp, 2007 model at $207.

this concludes the holiday edition of the camera bargain hunter. Happy Holidays! And keep on buying :-)

The featured *gasp* webcam is the Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 WebCam on special for $50 and free shipping. This price is only good for today, XMas Day! To compare, it sells for $70 at J&R World.

This appears to be a popular webcam, as there are 195 customer reviews posted at Amazon with an average rating of four stars, four out of five. If you are not familiar with this item be sure to read the product description, but also read the spotlight review by Kiyo M, a very detailed review for a webcam.

It includes a two year limited warranty, a VGA CCD sensor with RealLight technology, USB 2.0 high speed, built-in mic, USB cable, and the like.

OneCall has last minute Santa Claus specials

OneCall.com is playing Santa Claus with some late-breaking digital camera specials!

First up, Panasonic's 12-megapixel "tweener" model, the Panasonic FX100K, which uses a 1/1.7" sensor. Not a lot of manual features, this is not intended to be a replacement for the Panasonic LX2. Oh the price you ask? It's $280 with $12 shipping and handling.

If you are worried about splashing your main camera, and looking for one more camera to add to your arsenal, consider the Pentax Optio W30 for just $200 and $13 shipping and handling. This is not just splashproof but also waterproof. You may recall the ads with the W-series cameras sitting at the bottom of the water tank with fish swimming around it.

For the same price, $200, you can get the Olympus Stylus 780 Black or silver. Free 3-day FedEx shipping is included with this one. These are 7 megapixel 1/2.3" cameras with 5x optical zoom lenses. They have sensor-shift stabilization and weatherproof/splashproof bodies. But they only take xD memory cards (Booo!)

The last one I personally do not like at $380, maybe at $180, but some people may be interested in it: Canon Powershot TX1. This was Canon's first attempt at a "tweener" fun-zoom and hybrid, and this camera proved to be neither. One of the rare occasions of a "Canon failure". Shipping is $13.

Would you pay $6500 for the Nikon D3 right now?

Yet another indicator of how much buzz the Nikon D3 has created is this study in supply and demand. There are more people who want a D3 than D3 units available in the USA, so the list price of $5000 is a bit of a rare thing these days. Cameta Cameras has been studying their Econ 101 because they are adjusting their Nikon D3 prices based on supply and demand.

They only have a few of them in stock so they are asking for $6500, instead of the list price of $5000. That's a 30% premium in order to get the D3 in your hands right now. Would you pay $6500 to get it? If yes, then please feel free to do so :-)

Olympus E330, body only, $322 from Cameta at Amazon.com!

We have a DSLR bargain for you! The Olympus E330 - body only is currently available for $322 by Cameta Cameras at Amazon.com!

This is ideal for people with 4/3rds lenses or old OM mount lenses who don't object to doing this old-school. This is an older DSLR however. It has a version of Live View but it does not have sensor-shift stabilization which made its 4/3rds debut with the Olympus E510. There are some 4/3rds lenses with image stabilization from Panasonic, but be sure to check what the Olympus forums to find out about compatibility (I don't remember off the top of my head).

If you are not familiar with the Olympus E330, you can quickly become familiar by checking out some of the reviews on it at DCviews.com. The spotlight review of course is the one by dpreview but there are more than a dozen Olympus E330 reviews listed at DCViews.com

Sony accessory kit and other assorted deals at Amazon

Love Minolta and Sony? Then the Sony A100 body only is now down to $550, sold and shipped by Amazon!

The fastest moving deal right now at Amazon offered by Cameta Cameras is the $20 Accessory Kit for Sony CyberShot W, T and N Series Digital Cameras (DSC-W55, DSC-W80, DSC-W90, DSC-W200, DSC-T20 & DSC-T200) with Sony LCS-CSQ/B Soft Carrying Case (Black) from Cameta Cameras. This includes a carrying case, a mini tripod, a memory card wallet, a cleaning kit, and LCD protectors. Five items, one low price!

Next up at $217 is the Pentax A30 offered by Adorama. With its replacement delayed until February 2008 and beyond, the Optio A30 has gotten a new lease on life thanks to the new low prices.

Love the Leica brand? The Leica C-Lux 2 is discounted by Cameta Cameras: You can get it for $450. This is the Leica version of the Panasonic FX30.

The red red red Samsung S730 goes for $120. This is a 7 megapixel entry level P&S as you would expect at this price level. An even better bargain perpahs is the Samsung S85, black finish, for $125. It has a 5x optical lens, but no stabilization. But if you want to spend $90 instead, the red Samsung S630 is offered by J&R World. What is it with Samsung and red today? Are they matching their bargains with the XMas colors? Then were are the green ones? :)

More red! The Samsung i85 is going for $242, trying to undercut its main competitor, the lovely Sony T200. Meanwhile the Ssmsung S850 black is $147.

Nikon D40 plus 18-135 mid-range DX lens equals $660. An interesting proposition?

$150 is a nice price for the nicely priced Casio EX-Z75 offered by OneCall of Spokane.

Moving along at $357 after a $100 mail-in rebate you can get the Pentax K100D Super, body only, and have access to a vast number of K, KAF, KAF2, cough-cough, and other assorted lenses from the past, future and present.

    A Nikon SLR cries for a Nikon bag, which is what Camera Cameras offered at $30: Nikon Digital & Film SLR System Case Gadget Bag for D300, D200, D100, D80, D70s, D70, D50, D40x, D40, N55, N65, N75, N80, N90s & F100 DSLRs and film SLRs alike.

$40 will get you a Canon EF-D Focusing Screen for Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera. $40 won't get a Canon 40D though :-)

$150 is what Beach Camera offers for the Nikon S200, a LiIon Coolpixie.

The Nikon D300 is starting to run dry again, so Cameta Cameras is pleased to offer the Nikon D300 with the 18-200 VR DX lens for $2600. Get me one for Xmas please :) I won't complain if it arrives late, rest assured!

Digital picture frames and storage at Buy.com all week long

Buy.com has a number of new specials for the whole week, December 24 through December 30! Let's take a close look:

Coby DP-802, an 8" Digital Photo Frame with two Interchangeable Frames, for $105, and free budget shipping.

Another digital picture frame, a more affordable one is the Axion 7" Widescreen LCD Digital Picture Frame for $70 after a $10 mail-in rebate. Free budget shipping as well.

And a couple of storage accessories for those on the go or looking for more backup stoage: First up, an 8gb Kingston Hi-Speed DataTraveler USB Flash Drive for $50 and free budget shipping. This is quite competitive, as it comes down to $6.25 per gigabyte.

The second storage idea is the Western Digital Passport Portable 320GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive for $190 and free budget shipping.

Leica C-Lux 2 for $450 by Cameta Cameras on Amazon

For fans of Leica-branded digital cameras we have a price drop update! The Leica C-Lux 2 is now offered for $450 through Cameta Cameras on Amazon.

The C-Lux 2 typically sells for around $500. Here is review of the CLux2 by Zach Honig at Pop Photo. Here's another review, this one by Margaret Brown at Photo Review Australia.

For even more on the Leica C-Lux-2, check the digital camera tracker site.

For those not familiar, the C-Lux 2 is based on the Panasonic FX30, which currently sells for $200. But if you are a fan of Leica-branded cameras, you will not object to paying more than twice the price. If you aren't, then you can get the Panasonic equivalent for around $200.

Cameras advertised by Office Max this week

Prominently featured they are the digital cameras in the ad of the Office Max says the bargain-hunting Yoda ;-) Five models are featured and as regular O-Max shoppers know, they are no rebates to mail, it's a hassle-free rebate-free zone. So let's take a look!

You get a free 1gb SD memory card with each one of the three following digital cameras: Canon SD1000 at $180, Kodak Z885 at $180, and Nikon Coolpixies L14 at $120.

There are two Olympus cameras advertised at the spotlight spot and you get a free instant bonus, no rebates to mail, a $70 value, an Epson Stylus CX7400 3-in-1 printer. That's right you get it free on the spot! No upc codes, no mailings, no rebating! The two cameras that qualify for this bonus are the Olympus FE-280 at $180 and the Olympus Stylus 790SW at $250. This is a great bargain!. Just $250!!!

And something really funny, the ad shows an "actual underwater shot" from the Olympus Stylus 790SW. The shot itself measures 1.5cm by 1cm. That's centimeters, not inches. This is so obnoxiously silly that inspires me to showcase my pictures in 1-pixel format ;-) This was a good idea gone really bad. Come on, a 1.5cm by 1cm sample picture? COME ON!!!

They also have a long list of memory card offers, so let's take a look at those as well, all of them by Sandisk, unless otherwise indicated!

  • SD cards: 4gb at $35, 2gb at $20. These are the "standard" Sandisk editions
  • CF cards: 2gb Ultra II for $35
  • Memory Stick Pro Duo: 2gb for $35
  • Phone memory: 2gb mini micro SD kit, $35
  • Olympus 2gb xD memory card: $35

As you can see the "proprietory" cards (xD, Memorystick) cost almost twice as much as the SD memory card at the popular 2gb stoage level. Yet another reason why Sony and Olympus should apologize to their current users and offer dual-slot memory card drives in their new cameras. Let's hope they do this at CES 2008 or PMA 2008. Most likely though this will remain a hope. But then again, Fuji did smell the roses and has now gone to dual SD/xD memory cards, so there is some hope!

Two digital photo picture frames are advertised, the 7" Mustek for $60 and the 8" Pandigital for $130.

Other accessories of photographic interest, a 4gb Sandisk MicroCruzer ReadyBoost USB 2.0 flash drive for $35, and Simpletech 500gb USB hard drive for $130. Ideal for making additional backups of your work, especially if you are on the road or on location or at the studio. They also have a 320gb version for $100, a 250gb version for $95, and for the power users who shoot nothing but RAW all the time, they have a 1 terrabyte edition for $300.

  • Sony T200 super bundle and other stories

Today's fastest seller at Amazon is a giant Sony T200 bundle offered by Cameta Cameras on Amazon for $430. It includes Sony CyberShot DSC-T200 (Red) 8.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom + Lexar Media 2GB 40x Platinum II Series Memory Stick (MS) PRO Duo Card + High Speed USB 2.0 Memory Stick (MS) Card Reader + Digital Camera Case. Fries with that?

Pentax K10D (and Samsung GX10) owners this is for you: Cameta Cameras offers the Pentax D-LI50 Lithium-ion Battery for the K10D Digital SLR Camera for $39 each.

Meanwhile the gorgeous in a photographic way Nikon D300 with the 18-135 DX mid-range elns is in stcok from Amazon herself for $2100, which is the list price.

Olympus fans who like the Olympus E500 can find it bundled with the 14-45 kit lens for $480 through Cameta Cameras.

Meanwhile fans of the Kodak V1003 can scoop up the blue edition for $167.

$200 is what you pay for the 28mm wide Panasonic FX30 silver through J&R World.

Today only, 160gb Western Digital USB 2.0 hard disk for $90

Today only (Sunday) at Amazon, as the gold box deal of the day you can get the Western Digital 160GB 2.5-inch Passport USB Portable Hard Drive for $90 and free shipping. This currently sells for $100 at J&R and $120 at Tigerdirect.

This uses USB 2.0, and it is compatible with both PC and Mac computers. Shockingly it includes a USB cable. It requires no external power source, and has 128-bit encryption for data security. It is a 5400rpm drive, with an elegant glossy case and soft-touch base. Ideal for storing or backing up your pictures whether you are on the road, in the studio, at home or at the office.

Cameras advertised by Staples next week

Let's see what Staples has in-store for us next week. Next week being 12/23 through 12/29. The deals go live (tomorrow) Sunday morning.

As always keep in mind that brick and mortar prices are higher usually than reputable online dealers and you have to pay sales tax as well. But you can also use the brick and mortar ads to get a price match at your other favorite retailers. So it pays to look around and sniff around.

First up the Canon SD850 IS is $270, this one does not start at 28mm. At $230 you can instead get the red Casio EX-S880. This lovely camera uses the ceramic lenses which allow it to be so small and cutesy and fashionably tiny.

A more "standard" compact at $180 is the basic Canon SD1000, an Elph designed to sell faster than hotcakes.

Kodak's approach has been to attempt to offer more for less, and the 10mp Kodak V1003 at $180 is not a bad trade-off. It uses a 1/1.8-ish" sensor.

Sony's answer to all this is the Cybershot W80 at $180, assuming you do not object to memory sticks or the Sony brand.

If $110 is the absolute max you want to spend, and you do not mind using xD memory cards (eg you already have some) then you can get the Olympus FE-210 (AA-based, entry-level) at that price. If only Olympus woke up and smelled reality and did what their xD-friends at Fuji did: Offer their camers with the ability to use both xD and SD memory cards! Earth calling Olympus, earth calling Olympus :)

For $80 you can get the SmartyPants (ok, SmartPants) 7" digital photo picture frame, although the latest trend seems to be 15" digital photo frame, which was the standard size of LCD monitors a few years ago.

Memorycard-wise the 2gb Sandisk Ultra II CF is $30, while the standard 2gb Sandisk SD card is $18.

Meanwhile any of the advertised digital cameras purchases will also entitle you to a free after mail-in rebate Canon all-in-one printer. Not bad, if you actually have a use for the printer, and you don't mind submitting and tracking rebates.

    Camera snacks at Amazon

Let's see what cameras are moving on up sales-wise at Amazon! First up we start with the Sony T2 being in stock for $350 through J&R World.

Next we have a giant bundle from Cameta Cameras for $340. It includes: Nikon Coolpix S700 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom + Transcend 4GB HC SecureDigital (SDHC) Card + USB SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + Spare EN-EL10 Battery for Nikon + Nikon Coolpix Case. Good bundle for someone starting fresh!

And another one from Cameta Cameras, this one at $495: Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera + Nikon 18-55mm AF-S Lens + Nikon SLR Gadget Bag + Transcend 2GB 150x SecureDigital Card + USB Card Reader. Fries with that? :) Another good bundle for someone who wants to get started with a DSLR. Be sure to note however that the D40 and D40x expect the AF motor in the lens, so older lenses are not "friendly" to this camera.

Forget about all the digital crap? If you are one of those who thinks so, then spend $343 and get the Canon EOS Elan 7ne SLR Camera (Body Only). This is a FILM SLR and needs to be fed film which needs to be developed and produce byproducts that ruin the environment and cause solar flares ;-)

At $450 the Olympus E330 with the 14-45 kit lens is tempting at Cameta Cameras. Although not the lowest price of all out there.

At $126 the entry-level Pentax E40 is waiting for buyers. And so is the Olympus Stylus 810 for $188 through Adorama and the Olympus FE-240 is $150 through J&R World.

Also at $150 is the Panasonic FX12 silver through J&R World.

The Kodak Easyshare HDTV dock at $84 might interest Kodak camera users. This is just a Kodak dock, not a printer dock!

The Fuji F40fd is available from Amazon for $179, but it has a 1 to 2 month delay in shipment.

The under-rated Kodak Z885 is an interesting temptation at $140. It uses a 1/1.8" sensor, not the new smaller 8mp sensors.

Down to $150 goes the Nikon S200 offered at that price by Beach Cameras.

And the hybrid of this post is at $390, the Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 6MP Waterproof MPEG4 Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom (Blue). If you like hybrids and waterproofness at the same time.

And another giant bundle from Cameta Cameras, this fun zoom is at $280 for this whole lot: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom + Transcend 2GB SecureDigital (SD) Card + USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + (4) - AA Rechargeable Batteries w/ Charger + Digital Camera Case. Another nice set for a beginner or for someone looking for a second camera or their first long zoom camera.

    Morning shopping at Amazon

Let's see what deals have sneaked in early in the morning, when most people are asleep! The early bird catches the following:

The Samsung NV15 is offered at $208. This is one of the three second-generation NV-series cameras, and it is popular among photographers because it uses a 10mp sensor instead of the ant-hill 12mp sensor used by the NV20 and a number of other cameras by various manufacturers.

A giant Nikon P5100 bundle from Cameta Cameras for $380, which includes: Nikon Coolpix P5100 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 3.5x VR Optical Zoom + 4GB SDHC Memory Card + High Speed 2.0 USB SecureDigital Card Reader + Spare EN-EL5 Battery for Nikon + Digital Camera Case. Coffee or bagels with that?

The Casio EX Z75 is $150 through J&R World and the HP M637 is $120.

Samsung's hybrid is $355. The hybrid in question is the Samsung SC-X300L Flash Memory Divx Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom and Wired External Camera. Another hybrid, this one at $381 is the Sanyo VPC-CG65 6MP MPEG-4 Flash Memory Digital Camcorder (Black).

The lovely Samsung S850 black is $150. This uses a 1/1.8" sensor and has a 5x non-stabilized lens! Not to be confused with the newer Samsung S85 which uses a smaller 1/2.5" or 1/2.3x" sensor.

The trendy Sony T20 black is $250 through J&R World. Fashionably trendy for sure!

Functionally trendy at $357 after a $100 mail in-rebate is the Pentax K100D Super, body only. Or perhaps at $637 after a $100 mail-in rebate you can get the Pentax K10D with the 18-55 DA lens. Bang for the Buck DSLR alert!

Love me three times! The Canon 1D Mark III has a slight price drop as it is now offered at $4419. Body only of course.

The pre-orders keep on coming at $200 for the Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens

Jealous of the successul Sony T-series, Samsung launched their own 5x folded optics clone series and they are undercutting the Sony equivalents price-wise. The Samsung i85 black is now selling for $243.

Undercutting everyone, even the generics at times is Kodak with the Kodak V1253 at $231 - a 12 megapixel camera. Meanwhile the Kodak V803 pink is $146.

Tigerdirect offers an HP bundle for $200: HP Photosmart R927 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and HP Photosmart 6221 Premium Camera Dock. Another one, the HP R937 is $177.

Speaking of bundles, at $550 you can get this 2-lens kit from Cameta Cameras: Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX and 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens with 2 Nikon School DVD.

And here is one "generic" for $70: Mustek MDC630Z.

The Canon A710 IS is making a comeback at $350 through Beach Camera. Not a low price, but for those who like this model, the price may be right.

And something for our camcorder/video fans: After a $300 mail-in rebate, the Canon XL2 3CCD MiniDV Camcorder w/20x Optical Zoom is offered at $3370. A Canon marvel?

Canon S5 IS down to $300 even from OneCall.com

The good people of OneCall.com (Spokane, Washington) have a nice special deal for all of your long-zoomers out there! The Canon PowerShot S5 IS is offered at $300 even, and shipping as low as $11.

The world of super zoom cameras is very competitive, with pressure to increase the zoom ratio and the number of megapixels. Obviously each one of these decisions creates a new set of compromises and trade offs, so you have to keep that in mind when you consider an 8mp 1/2.3" sensor or 7mp 1/2.5" or 6mp 1/2.5" or the older 5mp ones. The zoom ratio for these super zooms ranges from 10x to 18x. The S5 IS is a bit "old school" in that it remained at 12x, while Sony jumped to 15x and Fuji, Olympus and Panasonic jumped all the way to 18x.

Also from OneCall.com, we have an $80 camera. That's right, the Pentax Optio E30 is offered at $80 with shipping as low as $4.60. It has a 3x optical zoom lens, and it's obviously a very entry-level digital camera.

    Friday night camera shopping fever

The biggest discount of the day was the Canon 5D with the EF 24-105 f4 IS USM L series lens for $2607, sold and shipped by Amazon herself. This is $200 less than the previous price earlier today, and $250 less than price bellwether B&H Photo. So if you have $2607 to spare and want a 5D with the 24-105 lens, get yours now!

And now to the mere mortal cameras: The Casio EX-Z75 pink is available at $150 through J&R World, while the red Panasonic FX07 is making a comeback at OneCall for $200.

Meanwhile the Sony A700 spiked in popularity after the dpreview review, with Cruthfield being the latest to have the body only version in stock for $1400.

The HP M637 can be yours for $120, while the Fuji A820 costs just $5 more.

$225 is the price for the Olympus Stylus 820 through J&R World, although we suggest that perhaps you should get the Olympus Stylus 830 instead because it has stabilization!

Meanwhile something strange has happened! The Nikon D300 body only is available at list price, not above list price. In-stock for $1800 as of right now.

The Pentax E40, perhaps the definition of an entry-level camera is offered for $115 via 17th street photo.

Meanwhile the Olympus E330 with the 14-42 kit lens is offered for $450 through Cameta Cameras.

The Panasonic FX10 continues to tempt users at $130 via Vanns of Montana, while the Sony W80, white finish, is $200 thru J&R World.

The pre-orders of the Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens continue to come in at the very tempting price of $200.

And this concludes our latest update. Be sure to check the Canon 5D deal mentioned at the top of the post!

    Afternoon camera snacks at Amazon

Let's see what camera "snacks" we have at Amazon this very moment, starting with the Casio EX-Z700 for $180 through J&R World. Meanwhile the Casio EX-V7 is offered for $200 by a 3rd party seller.

$40 can get you a Canon EF-D Focusing Screen for Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera.

The silver Samsung S730 is offered at $107, and the hybrid Sanyo Xacti HD700 7MP MPEG-4 High Definition 720p Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom (Red) is offered at $550.

The Olympus FE-230 is offered by Calumet cameras for $145. Calumet Cameras is different from Cameta Cameras. Don't let the similarly-sounding names confuse the issue. But both are considered very reputable photography retailers among the hardcore photographers.

Love the cutesy Elixims? The Casio EX-Z75 is $150 from OneCall of Spokane, Washington.

Hot off its recent dpreview review, the Canon SX 100 IS is offered in a tempting giant bundle from Cameta Cameras for $280. The bundle includes the following: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom + Transcend 2GB SecureDigital (SD) Card + USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + (4) - AA Rechargeable Batteries w/ Charger + Digital Camera Case

And for hardcore camcorder fans, for $2325, you can get the Sony DCR-VX2100 3CCD MiniDV Handycam Camcorder w/12x Optical Zoom

Now if you want to poison the environment with film, how about the Lomography Fisheye 35mm Camera (Silver) for $40 through Adorama Cameras.

    Friday morning Amazon shopping

First up, we have a huge bundle from Cameta Cameras for $770. It features the Olympus E510 2-lens kit with some bonus items. Here we go: Olympus Evolt E510 10MP Digital SLR Camera with Olympus 14-42mm Zuiko Lens + Olympus 40-150mm Zuiko Lens [Outfit] + Spare BLM-1 Battery for Olympus + Transcend 4GB 133X CompactFlash (CF) Card + High Speed USB 2.0 CompactFlash (CF) Card Reader + Cameta Incognito 1000 Deluxe SLR Gadget Bag (fits E300, E330, E410, E500 & E510). Fries or milk shake with that?

Next up, the Olympus E500 with the 14-45 (older kit lens) is offered at $480 from Cameta Cameras. Yet another sub-$500 DSLR, but this is an older DLSR.

If you don't mind waiting for 2-3 weeks, you can get this $9 Barska Trend 10x25 Monocular.

The 7x folded Pentax Z10 is now down to $218. Read reviews!

The older Olympus Stylus 720SW is holding up its price at $310 through Beach Camera, partially because the newer 795SW has lowered its shockproof and waterproof standards and instead made the camera look more "bijou" (read: pretty).

$447 after a $100 mail-in rebate will get you a Pentax K100D Super with the lovely 18-55 DA kit lens.

$250 is what you pay through J&R world to get the Sony T20 silver. Richard Tyler not included!

More bargains, at $130 via Vanns of Montana you can get the Panasonic FX10 silver, or for $127 you can get the Samsung S85 black.

If you are in love with the red dot, the Leica D-LUX 3 is offered at $600, about twice as much as the Panasonic "base" model.

$325 is what you pay for the 12-megapixel Panasonic FX100 silver. Less than $30 per megapixel. How sad?

Pink Samsung S630 at $90. This blocky camera has the grace of a bear in a ballerina outfit, but at that price, you can't really complain! Offered by J&R World on Amazon at the moment.

The Fuji E900 continues to be offered at $209 by a 3rd party seller named "Ace Photo Digital".

The Nikon D40 with the 18-135 DX mid-range lens can be yours for $660. Note that the 18-135 DX lens is what causes the prices to be over $500. The kit with the 18-55 DX lens is under $500 at the moment.

The Samsung NV7 is available for $160 through Tigerdirect. This looks nice, but be sure to read the reviews too!

Not bad if you want to give the original NV-series line-up a try. This camera features a 7x optical zoom lens, but no stabilization. As always, if you are not familiar with the camera be sure to read reviews, check image samples, as well as real world pictures at places like flickr, pbase, etc!

Can't go wrong with the Canon A570 IS for $150. Simply can't go wrong! Good as a gift or a carry around throw-away camera!

Love the Canon SD40? Then you can get the "twilight sepia" (brown) version for $180 through Cameta Cameras.

Love Nikon's Wifi? Then the Nikon P3 can be yours for $250 through Beach Cameras.

At $200, the Panasonic FX30 in different colors from different retailers is an interesting option for the price range and compact size.

If you love the good old Fuji E900 it's offered by a place called "Ace Digital" (I do not know of them) for $210.

Say goodbye to HP camers with the HP M547 at $104.

    DSLR Deals!
Looking for a really budget-priced DSLR at $350 with a kit lens too? Try the Samsung GX1s with the 18-55 digital Xenon lens. This is the Samsung version of the Pentax *istDS2. You thought you'd never hear of the *ist again? Think again :-)

Did you read the dpreview review of the Sony A700? Maybe that's why you can't find the Sony A700 in-stock from Amazon. The "HR" rating must be moving a few boxes!

Super bargain: Kodak Easyshare V803 for $110 on Amazon!

Super bargain alert! The Kodak Easyshare V803 is just $110 on Amazon, sold and shipped by Amazon! Wow! Get yours now! Free shipping and handling as well! Wowie! Great for gift-giving or having it around as a "general purpose" camera or a camera to have in your car or your bag and you won't lose any sleep if it breaks or get lost or stolen.

The Kodak V803 features an 8mp 1/1.8" sensor, 3x Retinar optical zoom lens (36-108), a 2.5" LCD screen, support for SD/MMC cards, a LiIon-battery, scene modes and more.

I can't stress enough how good of a bargain this is at $110!!!

More details and a list of reviews of the Kodak V803 at DCviews.com. They have five reviews listed there. Also be sure to check the user reviews at Amazon

Bargain alert: $350 DSLR includes 18-55 digital lens (the Samsung GX1s)

If you are looking for a bargain priced DSLR, with a digital kit lens included, take a long hard look at the Samsung GX1s for $350. This is the Samsung version of the Pentax *ist DS2. This is an older DSLR, and does not have sensor shift image stabilization that the newer Pentax-based cameras have (K100D, K100D Super, K10D, GX10). However, if that is not a major concern for your photographic needs, then $350 is a very nice price, especially if you have access to Pentax/K-mount lenses and don't object to the Samsung name.

Minox Digital Classic Leica M3 4MP Digital Camera with Minoctar 9.6mm Digital Lens for $115

The Minox Digital Classic Leica M3 4MP Digital Camera with Minoctar 9.6mm Digital Lens is offered for $115 on Amazon by Adorama! Yes, just $115 for those who want to buy this as "camera bijou". As for the camera aspects of this camera, be sure to seek out and read reviews and sample pictures.

    Morning deals at Amazon

The early bird catches the "camera broth"? Okay, joke gone bad! Let's forget about comedy and stick to cameras!

The Panasonic FZ8, black, is tempting everyone at $230. Yes a 12x MegaOIS super zoom with RAW! You can get this, instead of some AA-based 3x PSAM or some cutesy scene-mode ultracompact. Can you resist?

Canon users may find it hard to resist the Canon 40D bundled with the EF 28-135 IS USM lens for $1425. Not for the faint of pocket/credit though.

The cutesy Sony T70 is going head-on with the other trendy ultracompacts at $250. Head on, except of course for the MemoryStick part.

Love the Kodak V1003? Need an excuse to buy it? Well it currently sells for $160 only! This has a 1/1.8" 10mp sensor!

Give your tripod some love! Get it a Sunpak 620-760 Unpadded Tripod Carrying Case!

The Samsung S730 black is now avaiable for $109, while their bijou Samsung i85 red is down a few more dollars to $240 via Beach Camera.

Love pink? Then for $200 you can have the Sony W80 from J&R World.

Looking for a basic P&S that takes AA batteries? How about the Fuji A820 for $127?

For $150 you can get the Panasonic FX10 silver. Keep in mind that this does not start at 28mm, but just like all other Panasonics, it has a MegaOIS lens.

If instead you prefer a DSLR, the older Panasonic L1 with a nice Leica MegaOIS lens bundled is just $800. The lens alone costs about as much! DSLR bargain alert!

At $100 on the other hand, you can get the Nikon L11 in matte brown. This is a $100 camera deal!

With all the Panasonic FX-series camera sales you may have picked up one or two! How about getting a case for it? For $15 you can get the Panasonic DMW-CHFX30 Semi-Hard Case for all Panasonic FX Series Cameras.

$150 is all you pay for the Canon A570 IS. Not bad at all! A great gift camera or all-purpose carry around camera. Granted you can't expect it to behave like a DSLR!

This concludes this update :-) If you found any of these listings helpful in your purchase, please consider using the links in our blog to "tip us" for our efforts and allow us to continue offering this service. Thanks :)

Let us see what is making waves at Amazon's Camera and Photo department!

How about the Nikon D40 with the 18-135 Dx lens for $660 sold and shipped by Amazon? Please note this is the 18-135 DX mid-range lens, not the 18-55 DX entry-level lens. This is about the equivalent of a 28-200mm lens in 35mm equivalency terms.

The lovely Olympus E3 is in stock, and selling at the list price of $1700.

For $294 you can get the 6mp hybrid Sanyo Xacti CG6, a hybrid digital camera and mpeg4 camcorder from the long line of Sanyo hybrids.

Love big zooms? The Panasonic FZ50 silver is now down to $430. Yes, just $430!

The lovely Canon SD850 is down to $250 and tempting at that price!

The ceramic lens lovely Casio EX-S600 is down to $160 through J&R World.

Love the SuperCCD and the xD memory card? The consider parting with $129 to get the Fuji Z5fd from Beach Camera.

The shockproof and waterproof Olympus Stylus 790SW is $280 through J&R World. Available in multiple colors and flavors.

The old school Canon A530 is making a comeback for $129 through Beach Camera!

Sony A100 for $600, Samsung L73 for $120 and lots more!

In today's round-up of Amazon camera and photo deals we find the Sony A100 available at $598 body only and $639 with the 18-70 DT lens. Obviously the kit with the lens is the best bang for the buck, unless of course you have plenty of lenses and you have absolutely no use for the kit lens (you can also trade it or resell it if you don't need it).

The Samsung L73, black finish, is available for $120 through J&R World. Not bad for this NV-styled P&S compact. Also the red Samsung S630 is $90 through J&R World. And one more, the 5x folded optics Samsung i85, red, goes for $260, directly trying to compete with the 5x Sony T-series.

As always please keep in mind that prices and availability can change at any time!

The lovely Kodak V803 goes for just under $160, while the Kodak V1003 goes for around $185. Price varies by retailer and body color for each model.

And if you want to spend exactly $100, check out the $100 camera deal, the Panasonic LS75, silver, at $100 exactly.

Late night camera and photo deals at Amazon

Did anything slip through the cracks of the weekend shoppers? Let's see!

We start with some accessories: The Vanguard Dm-8250 Monocular is moving fast at just $24, while the Coby DP-5588 5.6-Inch (4:3) Clock & Digital Photo Frame with MP3 Player (Maple) at $80 through J&R World is also moving on up sales-wise. How about an $11 NIKON 72mm Nikon lens cap (LC-72)? And another monocular, this time for just $6, but with a 2-3 week delay: Barska Lucid 10x25 Monocular Binocular (Black).

All the Panasonic digital camera sales have also caused an accessory outage, the Panasonic DMW-CHFX30 Semi-Hard Case for all Panasonic FX Series Cameras is $15 but currently back-ordered.

    Digital Cameras
Meanwhile Cameta Cameras has another popular giant bundle at $280: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom + Transcend 2GB SecureDigital (SD) Card + USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + (4) - AA Rechargeable Batteries w/ Charger + Digital Camera Case. A ready to go bundle for sure! Unless of course you already have all the extras. Good for a "newbie" or "starter" kit.

Meanwhile the Panasonic FX100 is now under $300, $299 to be specific. If you love megapixels, you get a dozen!

If you are in love with the Samsung NV-series and you want to pick up every model they made, you are in luck, the Samsung NV7 is $160 through Tiger Direct. Same price for the Samsung S1050 black, sold and shipped by Amazon.

Down the prices go, at $220 you can get the Panasonic TZ3 silver! It starts at 28mm with a 28-280mm equivalent lens!

    DSLRs
What do you think of the Nikon D200 body only at $1400 through Adorama and Cameta Camera? Is that a good price or would you rather wait for the $1800 Nikon D300? It's your choice :-)

The Canon 30D body only is also sliding in price, now at $750 through Cameta Cameras! The 40D and the competition are obviously putting a lot of price pressure on this "older" DSLR.

Digital smidigital! How about a really old school camera? The NIKON FM10 35mm Camera Kit for $260 through J&R World?

Ritz and Wolf camera and photo circular advertisments

What does this week's Ritz and Wolf Cameras Sunday paper circular have in store for us? Let's take a quick look! For starters, all digital cameras include a free personalized photo book and a free 8x10 photo printer after a $100 mail-in rebate.

At $90, the Nikon Coolpix L11, in silver or black is a good choice for people looking to spend $90 on an entry-level digital camera. If you want to spend about twice as much and get a Coolpix, they have the S51 at exactly $200.

The Sony S700 with an exclusive Ritz case and batteries (AA NiMH) is offered for $130, which may be a really nice deal for Sony fans.

But if you don't like the Memorysticks, how about the Canon A560 for $135?

If you want a camera that in theory can mix it up with the elements and don't mind the folded optics, the Olympus Stylus 790SW is avaiable at $280 in multiple colors.

The Panasonic FZ18K is available for $370 (you can get it at Amazon for around $330). The Fuji S5700 is advertised at $200, while the Canon SD1000 in silver or black is available for $180.

Casio fans, there's a special bundle for you! The EX-Z77 is offered in a special outfit for $180. The special outfit includes a mini tripod, camera case, bonus software and a YouTube t-shirt!

    DSLRs
DSLR-wise the Nikon D40 with the 18-55 DX kit is $500, while the two-lens outfit which includes teh 18-55 DX, 55-200mm G (full frame), Nikon school DVDs, and Nikon gagdet bag) for $600.

The Nikon D40x is available in similar bundles as the D40, costing $650 and $750 respectively.

The Nikon D80 with the 18-55 DX lens is available for $1000; the price includes a $50 gift card. If you prefer the 2-lens outfit as described above, the price is as expected $100 more.

On the other side of the aisle we find the Canon Digital Rebel Xti (400d) for $650 bundled with the 18-55 EF-S lens, and $750 as the 2-lens kit special with the 75-300 III 35mm full-frame lens.

    Accessories
The Quantaray by Sunpak 5.6" digital photo picture frame is $70 and this includes a remote control.

Sandisk has some SD/mini-SD offer but they did a very poor job explaining the offer. So much for that!

The Tamrac backpack 4372 is on sale for $50, in red or blue!

Lots of cameras in this week's Best Buy circular ad

Best Buy goes all out in this week's circular ad in the Sunday paper as they offer two full pages of camera and photo deals! That's right, two full pages!

As it is typical, brick and mortar prices are usually higher than online, so if you want to quickly compare, be sure to check the camera's price at Amazon for comparison.

    Cameras under $200
HP wants to go out with a bang as they offer the HP M632 in an exclusive Best Buy white color for just $80. This is a 7mp, 3x optical zoom, SD cameras. Best Buy says minimum 20 per store and no rainchecks. You can also get the HP Leather Carrying case (Q6265A) for just $10.

For $120 you can get the Kodak M753, available in multiple colors. This is a LiIon-based camera, it does not take rechargeable AA batteries! But the Sony Cybershot S700 does, and it is available for $130. Please keep in mind that you obviously have to feed this one MemorySticks which are 1.5x to 2x the price of SD memory cards. But if you are a Sony fan, this is not an issue :-)

Meanwhile Fuji learned its memory card lesson as all of its new cameras use both xD and SD/MMC memory cards. And the Fuji F480 starts at 28mm wide to boot and sells for just $140.

Also from Fuji, a nicely styled and design ultracompact fashionably trendy camera available in many colors is the Fuji Z10fd priced at the very tempting price of $150. This camera may be the breakaway hit of the holiday shopping season. As with all cameras mentioned here, if you are not familiar with them, be sure to check reviews and see sample pictures as well as real world pictures at places like PBase and Flickr and Smugmug and such.

Another "cutie" is the Nikon Coolpix S200 advertised in red for $170. Not sure if they are using Chris de Burgh's "Lady in Red" song to promote it ;-) Also from Nikon, the Coolpix S51 in an exclusive (Best Buy) Navy color is available for $200.

Kodak's M883 is not as stylish as some of the aforementioned cameras, but it's available for $180. Why does stylish matter you ask? Well it doesn't matter for the pictures, but the cameras in this segment are promoted as "fashionable" electronics more than they are promoted as cameras :)

If you like pink cameras that take AA-batteries, check pink Panasonic LS75, an exclusive Best Buy color at $130. If the camera color is not an issue, then you can get this camera at Amazon for $100.

    Cameras over $200
Yet another "cutie" is the Casio EX-S880 red, using a "ceramic" lens to allow for the small form factor and design. The price tag is $220.

Olympus has a colorful Stylus 790SW which is shockproof and waterproof (read the specs for details) going for $280. This is available in multiple colors and has a more modern style than some of its Olympus predecessors. Sadly for fans of the previous SW cameras, its shockproof and waterproof rating has been reduced.

Canon's Elph series is hard to content with, the SD750 is promoted for $230, and the SD870 IS, which starts at 28mm wide angle is promoted at $320. Also from Canon, the "fun zoom" SX 100 IS is offered at $270.

Speaking of fun zooms, the Panasonic TZ3 is also offered at $270. What a coincidence!

Meanwhile the Sony Cybershot H9 which features a 15x stabilized zoom lens is at $400, but a number of people seem to agree that the latest wave of Sony H-series cameras are not on par. Some would go as far as recommend the old Sony H2 instead. As always be sure to check the reviews and samples and decide what's right for you.

    DSLRs
Two DSLRs are advertised this week. First up the Nikon D40 with the 18-55 DX lens for $500 even, but you can add the Nikon accessory kit (bag, battery, and photography guide on DVD) for an extra $50.

Next up is the Canon Digital Rebel XTi (400d) with the 18-55 EF-S lens for $700. For $900 you can get that along with the EF 75-300 lens and an accessory kit that includes a bag, battery and filter.

    Memory Cards
Some of the memory cards advertised are the the Sandisk 2gb Extreme III CF (SDCFX3-2048-901) for $45, the 2gb Sandisk Ultra II SDSDH-2048-901 SD card for $25, the 2gb "standard" Sandisk SD card (SDSDB-2048-A11/BB) for $20, the Sandisk 2gb Memory Stick Pro Duo (SDMSPD-2048-A10) for $35, and the 1gb Fujifilm xD card for $20. As you can see from all this, the SD memory card continues to have a price advantage over all the other formats. This is of course as expected :)
