Nikon D40, Canon Digital Rebel XT, and Pentax K100D Super DSLRs and other deals at Amazon

Let's see what's buzzing at the Amazon marketplace, starting with DSLRs!

Hot Pre-order: The Panasonic TZ5
One camera that is very hot in terms of pre-orders is the Panasonic TZ5, available in three popular colors (black, blue and silver). The pre-order price is $350, but Amazon offers a pre-order and post-order low price guarantee, along with free shipping, and possible free items as well.

dSLR World

Please note this is a 35mm full frame included by Cameta in the bundle, not the typical DA lens included in the standard Pentax kit lens.

For Canon fans, at $521, Adorama offers the following bundle: Canon Digital Rebel XT BLACK SLR Camera / Lens Kit with EFS 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Zoom Lens, 2 GB CF Memory Card, Spare NB-2LH Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery, Slinger System Bag.

Nikon fans are offered the Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera + Nikon 18-55mm AF-S Lens + Nikon SLR Gadget Bag + Transcend 4GB SDHC SecureDigital Card + USB Card Reader for $500, by Cameta Cameras.

Sony fans wanting to get started with SLR photography might be interested in pre-ordering the new Sony Alpha DSLR for $900, which includes two starter lenses: Sony Alpha A200W 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization with 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 and 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lenses

The red Nikon S51 ultracompact Coolpixie is offered at $195 by Adorama, competing at a more affordable price with the bling bling Sony T-series.

Speaking of bling-bling, at $400 via J&R World you can get the Canon PowerShot SD950IS 12.1MP Digital Camera with 3.7x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Coach Edition. Coach is a designer brand!

Not blinged for sure, but only at $150, via Adorama, is the older xD-based Olympus Stylus 730.

Meanwhile the Panasonic FX100 is going down in price, under $300, now stopping at $291, sold and shipped by Amazon, in black finish. Meanwhile their smaller Panasonic FX33 is just under $250, a camera very popular in Japan. So popular infact, they have a new version that starts at 25mm wide, the Panasonic FX35. Shouldn't they have named it FX25? :)

The Targus Expedition Micro Camera Case is offered at $8, with free shipping if the total order is over $25.

Digicam and Electronics specials at J&R World

The godo people at J&R World have a number of specials for us! Let's take a look!

First up, the black version of the Olympus FE-240 P&S digital camera is offered at just $150. This is great for those with xD memory cards. If you don't have xD memory cards, be sure to do the math, as xD memory cards are more expensive and harder to find than SD/MMC memory cards, and only uses in Olympus and Fuji cameras.

Speaking of which, they do offer a 1gb Olympus xD type M memory card for $20. Contrast that with their other special, a 4gb Sandisk SDSDB4096-A1 SDHC card for just $25.

Sandisk SDSDB4096A1 4 GB Secure Digital High Capacity Flash Card

Nine digicams in Office Max's sunday paper circular ad

While perusing the Office Max circular ad in the Sunday paper, we have noted nine digital cameras advertised, which is usually higher than the average number of cameras advertised in Sunday paper circulars. So let's see what they have!

There is one DSLR, the Nikon D40 with the 18-55 DX kit lens at $530. Not a competitive price to online retailers, but if you have a $500 Office Max gift card to burn...

The long zoom Canon S5 IS is offered at $380, again not a dramatic price. Not quite long zoom, but with a 5X lens is the Kodak Z855, which includes a free 1gb SD card and free tripod bonus, all for the price of $180. This is not a bad price!

Another affordable bundle from Kodak, which includes a free 1gb SD card but no tripod, at $110, is the Kodak M753. This is a good price given that you get the free memory card. So much so, that we will upgrade it to a BARGAIN ALERT!

More from Kodak, the 12 megapixel Kodak V1253 is offered at $200 as a special purchase. Special if you like to buy megapixels by the pound :-)

For the entry-level buyers out there, the Nikon Coolpix L14, with a free 1gb SD card is offered at $130. This is another price to take a look into because of the free card.

Without a freebie and at $180, we find the Sony Cybershot W80. This camera has fallen from the resistance point of $200, and it may be a good price for brick and mortar. I'm not sure on this one.

Another temptation, at $180 with a free 1gb SD card is the Canon SD 1000. Please keep in mind however that a brand new Canon SD1100 IS has just been announced, and it does include IS, while the SD1000 does not include IS.

Last but not least at $220 and with a free camera bag (I kid you not) is the Olympus FE-300, the flagship of the previous geneeration of FE- Oly cameras. Please note however that this onlytakes xD Memory cards!

And speaking of memory cards, we have the following specials: 4gb A-Data Turbo SDHC available at $20 as a special purchase. That's just $5 per gigabyte! Meanwhile a LEXAR Phone Memory 2GB Micro SD Card is offered at $30, while regular size Lexar cards start at $10. See store or website for more details on the Lexars.

One more thing: There is a special financing option:

But wait, there's more! You can save 50% off on select clearance cameras! This is no joke. You can find some nice deals - if you are lucky and if the cameras they have on sale are of interest to you. Needless to say this is like a lottery ticket. But I have seen a couple of times some nice deals thru this type of a clearance sale. I will report back after I visit my local store.

Sanyo E760 7.1MP Digital Camera for just $126 at Amazon

We have a nice deal for those who are interested in Sanyo digital cameras. Sanyo digital cameras are hard to find in the USA market, so if you like them, this might be a good chance to get one at a very good price.

The camera in question is the Sanyo E760, a 7mp pink digital camera an 3x optical zoom lens for $126 and free super saver shipping, sold and shipped by Amazon itself.

But wait, there's more! Amazon has a special offer running:

Special Offer: Receive a unique coupon code for a free 8x8 photo book (a $29.99 value) from Shutterfly when you purchase this product between January 1 and March 31, 2008. (Applies only to products sold by Amazon.com. Does not apply to products sold on our site by third-party merchants or through third-party areas such as Amazon.com Marketplace, Auctions, or zShops.)

The lens is an all-glass 3x optical zoom lens, with a 2.5" LCD, SD memory card support, ISO up to 800, face detection that can detect up to six faces every time, and powered by a LiIon battery.

Nikon D300 available now at OneCall.com

The good people of OneCall.com have informed us that they now have the Nikon D300 available in-stock and ready to ship for free, with free 3-day FedEx delivery for $1800. Lens not included!

Nikon D80 two lens kit special and other deals at Amazon

Let's see what's buzzing at Amazon right now! We start with a DSLR special, the critically acclaimed Nikon D80 with the 18-55 DX and 70-300 DX VR lenses is offered by Adorama for $1360. This is a good stater kit as you get the standard kit lens, and an affordable zoom lens.

On the other side of the aisle, Canon is offering the Canon 30D with the EF 28-135 IS USM lens for $1275, also from Adorama.

The red red red Samsung i85 is offered by Beach Cameras at $238. This camera is priced well below the 5x folded optics Sony T-series, and about $12 below the newly available Fuji Z100fd. More red, the Samsung S630 is cleared out at $90 by Adorama. Not bad for a 6mp, 3x optical zoom camera! At the same price, but sold and shipped by Amazon, you can have the shiny silver Samsung S730.

Also affordable, but Sony too, is the Sony S700 offered at just $120 by the good people of mail order giant J&R World.

If you are a fan of sensors 1/1.8" or larger, the Samsung NV20 is of interest, at $281. It does have 12mp however, so keep that in mind!

Competition is good! Because the price of the Nikon D300 is falling! Now you can get the Nikon D300 with the mid-range 18-135 DX lens for $2034! Yeeehaaawww!

Continuing with the dropping price theme, the Sony A700, body only, is now $1275 via Ritz Cameras!

Not a new DSLR, but it packs a mean punch at just $580 after a $100 mail-in rebate, is the body only edition of the Pentax K10D!

Meanwhile the camera credited with boosting Panasonic to the #2 market share spot in Japan for 2007 is the Panasonic FX33. No wonder Panasonic decided to offer an additional model, the Panasonic FX35, which starts at 25mm. Offered at around $250 right now - depending on color and seller offering it!

If you are a fan of wifi capable cameras, the Nikon S50c is offered at exactly $200 by Adorama!

Hot Pre-Orders!
The giant Fuji S100 FS is generating pre-order interest at $800. This giant has a 2/3" sensor with 11mp, and a giant lens going from 28mm to 400mm equivalent. Stabilized and with RAW!

Also generating pre-order buzz at $400 even is the new Olympus Stylus 1030SW, which is shockproof, dustproof, waterproof but not idiotproof :)

Sony A700 in Best Buy's Sunday Paper ad

In this week's Sunday paper circular ad, the Sony A700 is featured by Best Buy qat $1500, a price that includes their 18-200 DT lens. The lens is code SAL18200. The body only version of the DSLR is offered under $1400, but the actual price is not disclosed in the ad. Also of Sony interest, the 11-18mm wide angle lens (SAL1118) is offered at $400. This becomes a 17-27mm-ish lens when mounted on the Sony DSLRs!

Meanwhile the Nikon D40 is offered in a bundle with the 18-55 DX kit lens, the 55-200 lens, and the Sunpak Tri-monopod (remove center column and it can be used as a monopod), for the one bundle price of $700. The Sunpak tri-monopod code is 620-750TMBB. This is not a phone number! Do not call it! :)

In the world of non-dSLRs, the Canon S5 IS with its 12X IS lens is offered at $380, a rather high price compared to online prices.

Also from Canon, the SD750, an older camera with a giant screen, is offered at $230. It is also offered at $270 with an accessory kit, which includes an extra battery, leather case, and wristlet.

Fuji continues its assault on the ultrasleek market with their brand new Fuji Z100fd. Brand new to the US market that is. This camera was announced in Asia and other markets last fall. IT currently sells for the list price of $250. Meanwhile the previous model, the Z10fd, with a 3x lens, is offered at the very tempting price of $150. Since Fuji has switched to support of both xD and SD memory cards, their cameras are now open to a broader audience.

Speaking of ultra-sleek, the Sony Cybershot T70 is the "more affordable" member of the T300/T70 duo, and available for $280. About $20 to $30 more than online sales.

The exclusive white color (according to the Best Buy ad) is offered at $160. Of the Casio EX-Z77 digital camera that is. Yes, it has a YouTube mode. Not sure if it includes a YouTube t-shirt!

For those who want to spend exactly $100 (+tax), the Nikon Coolpix L11 is offered at exactly that price!

Memory cards
They have a few memory card deals, let's take a quick look: A 1gb Fujifilm xD card is offered at $25, while a 2gb Sony-branded Memory Stick Pro Duo is offered at $30. Also at 2gb from PNY, a microSD card (P-SDU2GB-FS or P-SDU2G-RF3) for $20 and an SD card (P-SD2G-RF3 or P-SD2GB-FS) at $20.

Seagull TLR, Canon SX100 IS, SD870 IS etc (Amazon)

First, let's take a quick break from digital cameras, and show you a flock of ...seagulls! The Seagull GC-105 Medium Format Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) Camera with Built-in 75mm f/3.5 3 Element Lens is offered by Adorama on Amazon for $175. This is a TLR, not an SLR. TLR being Twin Lens Reflex. A picture follows for those not familiar with TLRs:

Now back to digital cameras
Camera Cameras offers a giant Canon Powershot SX100 IS bundle which includes a 4gb card and batteries/charger and trinkets.

For fans with a specific budget, the Nikon L11 is offered by Adorama Camera - it includes a 1gb memory card, case and table-top tripod as a bonus!

Fans of the wide angle Canon SD870IS can get a bundle from Cameta Camers for $355. This includes a 4gb card, spare battery, and trinkets. The SD870-IS is the one that starts at 28mm and has a giant LCD screen on the back, but no OVF. OVF being an optical viewfinder.

On the budget side of things, at $120, you can get the HP M637, sold and shipped by Amazon itself.

At the other end of the compact spectrum, the Sony T200 is offered as a bundel from Cameta cameras for $340. There is a new camera that was just announced, the Sony T300, but as you can expect the new one will cost $400 and will be a few more weeks before it even becomes available.

At exactly $100, you can get the GE A730, one of General Imaging's first wave of digital cameras. At $113 you can get the copper-brown-orange Kodak M753, an entry-level M-series mdoel from Kodak which however, uses LiIon batteries.

For all cameras with AA batteries that you do not use on a daily basis, we recommend that you use Sanyo Eneloops, or other rechargeable AA NiMH batteries that retain their charge over time. They save the battery because of fewer recharges, and they also save electricity since you recharge fewer times. But if you are draining your batteries on a daily basis, you are better off with traditional AA NiMH batteries.

Casio EX-Z77, and Olympus SP570 pre-orders, and more at Amazon

Hot Pre-orders
The Olympus SP570 at $500, and with a wild 26-520mm lens is tempting many people to place a pre-order and get a good place in line!

The Sony S730 is the new entry-level Sony Cybershot camera available for pre-order, and the price is very right for those who have Memory Stick Pro Duo memory cards: Just $130!

From that, to a sleek camera that competes with the Sony T-series, but costs just $250, the Fuji Z100fd, in multiple colors, is available for pre-ordering. This takes both SD and xD cards so you have more flexibility.

And a DSLR! The new Sony A200, with the 18-70 DT lens, is bundled for the pre-order price of $700 even.

Current offers
Nikon D80 users might be interested in this book, for $25 via Ritz Camera: Lark Books - Magic Lantern Guides: DVD- Nikon D80 Lark Books - Magic Lantern Guides: DVD- Nikon D80. They take user manuals to a whole nutter level!

At $150, you can get a sleek compact, the Casio EX Z77 from Vanns of Montana. Casio has one of the most stylish camera designs out there. For IQ and such, as always, be sure to check reviews. But this is $150, so don't expect the same IQ as the Nikon D80!

At $170, you can get the Panasonic FX30, which is one generation older than the current FX55 and FX33. The FX33 was very popular in Japan and helped Panasonic jump to the #2 in terms of market share (in Japan). This is sold and shipped by Amazon herself.

Meanwhile at just $113 you can get the Samsung S85, black. This has an 8mp sensor with 5x optical zoom, LiIon batteries and a 1/2.5" sensor.

Leica brand fans can pay $500 to Adorama and get the Leica C-Lux 2 - which is the Leica version of an older Panasonic model.

DSLR world
The Sony A700, body only, Sony's latest mid-range Alpha DSLR, is offered at $1300 by Crutchfield on Amazon!

Panasonic FX12, Sony A100, and a couple of other deals at Amazon

We have a quick update on some digital camera deals picking up momentum at Amazon at this moment. First up, the Sony A100, body only, is sold by Ritz Cameras for $600 even. Then the Panasonic FX12, an older camera, but not that bad, is offered by J&R World for $150. The price is what makes it "not that bad" - when compared to newer models.

Olympus fans may be interested at the FE-240 offered by J&R World for $150.

Farewell Samsung NV7 at $160 from Tigerdirect. This 7X model has not been updated by Samsung, but they did release another model with a 7x lens in the L-series lineup, the Samsung L77.

At $165, the Casio EX-Z75 is not a bad deal for this market segment. Obviously don't expect DSLR performance at this price and segment. Offered by Adorama.

Last but not least, the Olympus E330 is offered by Cameta Cameras for $300 even. Body only, no lens. No image stabilization but it has Live View. It eats 4/3rds lenses and old Olympus lenses when using the OM-1 adapter.

Sony A300, Nikon D200 with 18-200 DX VR lens, and other deals at Amazon

Let's see what's moving on up in terms of sales popularity at Amazon!

DSLR Deals!
First up, a new DSLR! The Sony A700, with the 16-105 DT lens is offered at $1900 by Tigerdirect, Crutchfield, OneCall, and J&R World on Amazon.

Meanwhile the Nikon D200 with the 18-200 DX VR lens is offered at $1920 by Cameta Cameras. The lens itself costs for just under $700, which prices the D200 body at around $1225 in this bundle.

Canon answers that with the Canon 30D with the kit lens for $900, offered at that price by Adorama.

For those in the $500 range, Cameta Cameras have created a tempting Nikon D40 bundle, which includes the kit lens, 4gb card, Nikon bag, and a couple of other trinkets as well.

If you want more megapixels, the Nikon D40X, body only, is offered at $535, but please keep in mind that both of these camers do not play well with lenses without a focus motor. Hopefully Nikon won't release more cameras with this non-photographer-friendly limitation. Nikon, are you listening? :)

Canon counters that with their own affordable DSLR, the Canon Digital Rebel XT, body only, black, is offered at $400 even. That's right folks. You can get a Canon DSLR for just $400! Granted, there are two new D-Rebel models - the XTi and XSi.

Sleek and not-so-sleek compacts!
The red Casio EX-S880 is offered by 17th Street Photo for the round price of $200! This is a very sleek camera, using a ceramic lens, but obviously don't expect it to behave like a Nikon D3 with a $2000 lens!

Kodak's V803 is offered at $147, sold and shipped by Amazon, and uses a 1/1.8"-ish sensor, compared to the smaller 1/2.x" sensors found in the majority of cameras in this segment.

Even lower price, at $116, you can get the Kodak M753. Despite the low price, this is actually using a LiIon battery, as are all of Kodaks new M-series cameras.

From the world of pre-ordering, the Fuji F100fd is offered at $380 as a pre-order, but Amazon offers both a pre-order and a 30-day post-order price guarantee! Please note that according to dpreview this camera does not have shutter priority and aperture priority. Which ruins this camera for some people.

Also from Fuji, the colorful Z10fd is offered at around $150, depending on body color - and they have plenty of those!

Last but not least, the Olympus Stylus 790SW, in multiple colors, is available from J&R World for around $250.

For $16, you can get the Bushnell Tripod Window Mount. Also on a tight budget at $13 offered by a 3rd party is the Ambico V-0640 40-inch Fashion Tripod with Two-Way Panhead and Quick Shoe. Just don't expect these to perform like the ones that cost 10x more!

Continuing with the low budget theme, Cameta Cameras is offering the CTA Digital DB-FT1 Rechargeable Digital Camera Battery - equivalent to Sony NP-FT1, for just 49 each!

Pre-order the Fuji S100 FS and other camera deals at Amazon

One of the most talked about cameras of PMA 2008 is the new Fuji S100 FS which features an 11mp 2/3" Super CCD sensor and a giant 28-400mm lens, with stabilization, RAW, tiltable LCD, zoom ring and lots more. First up, a trademark Cameta Cameras bundle, featuring the Canon A720 IS with lots of goodies for $280.

At the same price, from the same place and in a similar package we find Canon's funzoom, the Powershot SX 100 IS! Canon has not announced a newer model in this range (yet).

Meanwhile an older DSLR, the Panasonic L1 is offered with the 18-50 Leica MegaOIS lens for the amazingly low price of just $800. The lens alone is worth almost that much!

An entry-level DSLR, with a nice bundle is offered at $495 by Cameta. The bundle? Here it is: Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera + Nikon 18-55mm AF-S Lens + Nikon SLR Gadget Bag + Transcend 2GB 133x SecureDigital Card + USB Card Reader

Feed your LiIon Pentax DSLR with the Pentax D-LI50 Lithium-ion Battery for $40 at Cameta Cameras.

The Sony T2 is shipping! Yes, it is shipping! This is the Sony T-series camera with 4gb of on-board memory. It also takes Memory Stick Pro Duo cards, but because of the on-board memory, it makes it tempting to people who may be allergic to Memorysticks! Offered at $350 by J&R World.

Relive the past for $200 with the MINOX DCC Leica M3 5MP Digital Camera. Just don't expect the same performance :)

Nice bargain camera at $136 thru Adorama is the black version of the Samsung S850, which takes AA batteries and has a 1/1.8"-ish sensor, and a 5X lens - but no stabilization!

Meanwhile the 12mp Sony W200 is offered at a round $300 by the good people of OneCall at Amazon.

And an accessory worth mentioning! Don't be caught without it! Priced around $90 is the Crumpler The Dreadful Embarrassment Laptop Messenger Bag. Find out what the hype is all about!

Panasonic FX100 on sale for $280 + $11 S&H at OneCall

OneCall has a special offer on the Panasonic FX100! It is on sale-clearance for $280 with $11 three day Fed-Ex shipping at OneCall!

This is a 12mp camera, with a MegaOIS lens that starts at 28mm. Not perfect though as it suffers through the usual Venus engine and sensor noise issues.

Two Dell coupons for Canon digital cameras

These are limited time offers! Dell has two coupons for two Canon digital cameras! The first is on the older Canon Digital Rebel XT, also known as 350D, along with the 18-55 EF-S kit lens. The second is on the Canon SD900, which is a P&S camera, but it uses a larger sensor than most ultracompacts use, it has a sensor at 1/1.8" or larger.

$230 off EOS Digital Rebel XT with Lens Bundle
Coupon code: $FRG901HJ?GTCD

Obviously if you are not familiar with these cameras be sure to check online for user reviews, sample pictures, and professional reviews, along with magazine reviews. Digital camera forums also have lots of useful information, although sometimes you may have to sift through some "drama" to find what you need.

And as a reminder, the history of the Digital Rebels is as follows: The first one, the original Digital Rebel is the 300D. Then came the XT, which is the one with the Dell coupon, also known as the 350D. Then came the XTi, aka 400D, and just two days ago, Canon annoucned a brand new model, the XSi, aka 450D. That was a brief history of Rebels :)

Camera deal round-up (Panasonic FZ18, Sony W200, Casio EX-Z1200)

Let's see what camera deals we have for you today!

First up, we have a nice new deal from our friends at OneCall.com! The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W200 is offered at $270, which includes free 3-day FedEx shipping and "handeling". This is a 12mp camera announced by Sony in 2007.

Also at 12mp, our friends at J&R World are offering the Casio EX-Z1200SR Exilim, silver, for $250 with free shipping. Casio's EX-Z1050 was critically acclaimed - it got a very nice review at DC Resource. Also keep in mind that the newer Casio models are using a smaller 1/2.33" sensor, instead of the 1/1.7x" sensor. So if you are into bigger sensors, take a long hard look at this one!

Fans of big zooms will be interested in the Panasonic DMC-FZ18K for $330 plus S&H. This camera features an 18x MegaOIS lens, with image stabilization, and RAW support. Obviously you can't expect miracles from a tiny sensor and an 18X matching lens, but given the size and price, it may be a great compromise. Is it? It's up to you to decide!

And how about some music when you are on a break or on the road? The 8gb Apple iPod touch is offered at $260 by J&R World.

If you don't object to "generic" brands and want to pay a really low price, Tigerdirect is offering the Norcent DCC-725 for just $60. This is a 7mp, 3x optical zoom camera with a 2.5" LCD.

Meanwhile if you are happy with the A-Data memory card brand, Tiger is also offering the their 8gb SDHC Class 6 card for $40. Not bad eh? 50c per gigabyte!!! Nice!

If you are looking to make photo prints online, Shutterfly has a special offer for new members:

The Camera Deals blog in the news!

The Camera Deals blog got some extra PR as it was mentioned by the AAA on target website in their "Blog Watch" segment. Thank you AAA on Target for the mention! And remember, you can use your AAA membership and save online and offline. One of the offers is a printable 10% off discount coupon for your Circuit City purchases! For more on that, be sure to logon to your AAA account and check under the Savings segment.

Office Depot pay nothing until January 2009 digital camera promotion

Perusing the digital camera section of this week's Office Depot circular ad, we find a special financing offer, pay nothing on purchases until January 2009. That's a year! For this promo, you have to use your Worklife Rewards Vis credit card (Office Depot branded Visa card), and buy at least $499. If you don't have the card, they'll be more than happy to take your application in-store.

To make this more enticing, they have a 15% discount on Sony and Canon digital cameras priced $199.99 or more, with some exceptions. Those two, Canon and Sony, the two market share leaders in the USA market. Their accountants are smart! Discount and finance promo ---> shopping spree!

The prices below are after the 15% discount - we are doing the math, so you don't have to:

  • Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D), with 18-55 EF-S lens, around $468, which is about the same price as Amazon.
  • Canon S5 IS, $340, another reasonable price.
  • Canon SD750, has a big screen, but no IS/OS, and slightly older model at $213.
  • Canon SD850 IS, has IS, but does not start at wide-angle. Price is $255. BARGAIN ALERT!. Drop everything and run! This goes for around $300 at Amazon!
  • Canon SD1000. This is the bread and butter, mass market, Elphie. The $170 price is also nice and neat!
  • Sony H7, their 15x optical super zoom, that received a lukewarm welcome by super zoom fans. Price? $297 or so.

Also 15% off are all digital frames, except the ones that are on clearance or discountinued. If you prefer to use an HDTV as a glorified digital picture frame, you can buy a 32" Olevia for $700.

    Memory cards
A 4gb Memory Stick from Sony itself goes for $55, a welcome price since the lower capacities are much more expensive per gigabyte. Compact flash users may be interested in the 2gb Ativa (ODP's house brand) for $25, while microSD users can get a 2gb version at the same price, from the same brand. Last but not least, a 4gb Sandisk SDHC card is avaialble at $35. This is the standard SD memory card, the Ultra and Extreme versions usually cost more since they are faster and such.

And something while you are on the road: You can get a music maker (portable mp3 player) for just $35 and it takes microSD cards for expansion. We are talking about the 1gb Sandisk Clip, it also has a built-in USB port. But be warned, it has an internal li-ion battery. But instead of paying $80 for an Apple, you just pay $35 and you can use your microSD cards on it as well!

  • Radio Shack camera deals in the Sunday Paper

Let's take a quick look at the Radio Shack ad in the sunday papers. It features three digital cameras and a number of $10 accessories.

First up, the digital cameras! The always stylish Casios are great gifts for stylish people, and the EX-ZX75 black is a great example at $170. The price includes a free 1gb Sandisk SD memory card.

Not as stylish, but certainly compact, is the Canon SD 1000, with a free 1gb Sandisk SD card, which tries to make up for its rather high price of $200. But if you are in a hurry, and don't want to deal with the Circuit or Best Buy parking and crowds, you can be in and out of Radio ShaQ in minutes.

We wouldn't call it borderline ugly, but it's not sleek for sure. We are talking about the Sony Cybershot S700, a AA-based camera for $150. This includes a bonus 1gb Sony Memorstick. The free memory is a bigger deal here, because 1gb Memory Sticks cost about twice as much their SD/MMC equivalents. See the paragraph above on comparitive prices and such.

    Accessorize for $10 each
Radio Shack has a series of $10 accessories. Here they are:

  • 50" Targus tripod. Just don't expect it to behave like one you pay 10x as much!
  • Grypton tripod. Another one with the flexible legs, different from the Gorillapod brand
  • Digital camera starter kits, one for small cameras, and another for medium sized. This is a collection of quasi-valuable accessories, but if you need one of them, then it's like getting the rest for free. Included is a semi-hard shell case, a mini tripod, and cleaning supplies. And a couple of other trinkets perhaps like screen protectors and memory card wallets. Check the store or website for details.
  • Targus 25-in-1 memory card reader. 25 you ask? Welcome to the Memory Card Babylon!

  • Best Buy Sunday paper ads: The Nikon D300 makes a bold debut!

Grab this week's Best Buy circular and turn to page 31. You will find a sidebar ad of the Nikon D300 with the 18-200 DX VR lens for $2540. Add the 70-300 VR lens and the bundle price goes up to $3000 even. But it's also available for $1800 body only. Does Best Buy have enough supplies? Will it be available in all stores in select stores? We blog, you decide!

Meanwhile the GINO, Canon G9, is advertised at $450, and it occupies the back-cover along with two other LCD-cameras, the Canon SD870 IS at $300 even and the Nikon S51 navy blue at $180. For extra juice at a low price, the BP-NKL8 Digipower battery can be had for $20 even.

The D-Rebel has its own bundle, the XTi body, the 18-55 EF-S lens, and an accessory kit that includes a bag, battery and filters for $750. If you don't want the accessory kit, the price is $700.

Also from Canon, the A570IS is at $150 and maeks a great recession camera.

Sony fans have a choice of two Cybershots, the affordable S700, for $120, and the more "stylish" W55 for4 $160. While the prices are nice, be sure to note that prices of MemorySticks are 50% to 100% higher than SD/MMC memory cards. But if you already have MemorySticks or you are a Sony fanboy, then ignore this sentence :)

    Accessorize like Ugly Betty!
A 4gb PNY SDHC card is offered at the very reasonable brick and mortar price of $30. The exact model is P-SDHC-4GB4-RF3. Meanwhile a Wenger padded nylon case for compact cameras of various denominations is offered for just $10, model WA-7807-02F000.

More memory cards, for xD-based cameras, the 2gb Fuji xD card is offered at $40, twice as much as an SD equivalent. MemoryStickies can get a 1gb Sony branded MS Pro Duo for $30 - yikes - three times the equivalent of a 1gb SD card.

If you have an Ultra II Sandisk SD card, 2gb costs more, $25 to be precise. Meanwhile DSLR owners may be tempted by the 2gb Extreme III for $40, model SDCFX3-2048-901.

And for an extra storage option, the 4gb PNY USB flash drive with Ready Boost (as if Vista ever has enough memory) goes for $35, and the 2gb version for $20.

This concludes our review of the Best Buy circular ad for this week. Shop early and often!

Canon A720IS, Fuji IS-1, Samsung NV15 and other deals at Amazon

Let's see what we find at Amazon this Saturday.

First up, we start with a giant bundle from Cameta Cameras featuring the Canon A720 IS for $280. This includes a memory card, batteries and lots more. This is a camera made for the average camera user and the big electronics superstores.

If you can't afford a lens, get a lens cap: NIKON 58mm Lens Cap (LC-58) for $9 via Adorama ;-)

$108 is all you pay for the HP M637, one of the last HP-"made" Photosmarties.

Meanwhile if you are into Infrared, you can pay Adorama $750 and get the Fuji IS-1. This is an IS version of the Fuji S9100. Fuji does have a rather bizarre end user license agreement. Manufacturers gone wild!

If you like older Stylus cameras, the Oly 810 is available by Adorama for $188.

And we have a hybrid at $375: The Samsung SC-X300L Flash Memory Divx Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom and Wired External Camera.

Pre-order me now! screams the Fuji Z100fd at $250 with free shipping and pre-order price guarantee from Amazon itself.

The Nikon D40 two lens kit is offered by Camera Cameras for $670. This includes the 18-55 DX and 55-200 DX lenses.

The Canon 30D, body ony, with the 18-55 EF-S lens is offered at $900 by Adorama. This is the best bang for the buck DSLR among Canons in our opinion!

Just $166 is what you pay for the Samsung NV15. Nice price!!! Get it now!!! BARGAIN ALERT!

Popular in Japan is the Panasonic FX33 at $250. You can get it in multiple fashionable colors. Find out why it was popular in Japan!

And here's a lens for $455 via 47th street photo: Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Macro Lens for Nikon DSLRs.

The Nikon P3 is at $250 via Beach Cameras. This is an older model but is wi-fi capable for those who are interested in wifi-enabled cameras. Alternately of course you can just get an EyeFi wireless memory card instead.

Last but not least, the Nikon D40x with the mid range 18-135 DX lens are offered together for $820, sold and shipped by Amazon.

Casio EX Z75 and Pentax Z10 specials from OneCall.com

OneCall.com has two nice digital camera specials for the weekend. But that's not all, they have more items as part of their weekend sale.

First up, a nicely priced compact camera with style. Casio is known for their stylish cameras. So you may want to consider the Casio Exilim EX-Z75, silver for $145 which includes free 3-day FedEx Shipping. Not bad eh?

The second camera is for those who like gadgetology features, it features a 7x folded optics lens. Obviously there are some compromises with such a lens, but it's up to you to decide whether the compromises are okay with your needs and preferences. We are talkign of course about the Pentax Optio Z10 Black for $198, with free 3-day Fed-Ex shipping and handling.

And here's one idea to stylishly showcase your pictures: An HDTV! How about the Toshiba 42HL167, a 42-inch REGZA 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV for $1250 with shipping included.

Nikon P50, Olympus 790SW, Canon Elan 7ne and more (Amazon)

Let's take a look at what Amazon has in-store for Friday shoppers!

    Mass Market compacts
At $195, via Adorama, you can get the Nikon S51, in red. This is Nikon's attempt to compete with the Canon and Sony popular mass market models as it borrows from the Sony T-series styling and the entry-level Elph pricing. Elph is also known as Ixus and Ixy in other markets.

At $146 or so you can get the Kodak V803, a slightly older but 1/1.8"-based compact.

The brand new stylish Fuji Z100fd is available for pre-ordering at $250. This camera tries to compete with the more expensive Sony T-series from underneath in terms of pricing. And now a plus, the Fuji cameras take xD and SD/MMC memory cards, while Sony is in MemoryStickLand.

    Cameta Cameras Bundles
Cameta Camera regularly posts some nice bundle of cameras that are a good value proposition - assuming you need the extra items they are offering, or you can trade or sell them if you don't need them.

First up, for $330, they have the Olympus Stylus 790SW 7.1MP Waterproof Digital Camera with Dual Image Stabilized 3x Optical Zoom (Black) + Olympus 2GB xD-Picture Memory Card + USB Card Reader + Spare Li-42B Battery for Olympus + Compact Padded Camera Case. Good starter kit for someone who doesn't have digital or doesn't have xD-based cameras. And the waterproof/shockproofness of this camera is just about the only reason to get it over the many other competing compacts in this segment. Olympus insists on xD memory cards only, and they are all alone now that their friends at Fuji have moved on to dual xD/SD memory card slots. Olympus, please wake up and smell the memory card roses!

Next up, a bargain hunter's dream, a camera starting at 28mm for $180. This is a basic starter kit which includes the Nikon Coolpix P50 Digital Camera with Transcend 2GB SecureDigital (SD) Card + (4) AA Batteries and Charger + Carrying Case. Not bad at all!!!

    SLRs and DSLRs
The Canon EOS Elan 7ne SLR Camera (Body Only) is a film SLR. I repeat this SLR needs 35mm film! It is not digital. But for those who love film or want to explore film the first time and are familiar with SLRs, this is a nice option at $343. Preferably if you already have Canon lenses or are thinking of going in that direction. Or for a more affordable solution, the Canon EOS Rebel K2 35mm Date SLR Camera (Body Only) is just over $150.

Hey, it's a $4 price-drop and the lens is not even out yet! The Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens is in pre-order status but has dropped down to $196. This is the neo-kit lens that attempts to compenseate for the lack of sensor-shift image stabilization. Canon has taken a similar approach, as the two DSLR market share leaders continue to refuse to offer sensor-shift image stabilization, presumably for fear of affecting their expensive IS/VR lens sales.

Just $5 under $500 can get you the Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera + Nikon 18-55mm AF-S Lens + Nikon SLR Gadget Bag + Transcend 2GB 150x SecureDigital Card + USB Card Reader from Cameta Cameras. This is a nice starter kit for someone who wants to ease into DSLRs, but please keep in mind this camera doesn't play well with older lenses as it expect the lens to have a focus motor.

And we have a 3rd party lens making waves as well. It is currently delayed by 2 to 4 weeks, but there is definitely interest. It is the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 SP AF Di LD IF Macro Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras.

Weekend digicam specials at J&R World

The good people at J&R World have new digital camera specials for the weekend! So let's take a quick look at the JR.com Weekend Sale!

First up we have a 12mp (ouch) compact camera from Casio. The price is very reasonable at $250 with free shipping. The camera? It is the Casio EX-Z1200SR Exilim. Obviously cramming 12mp into a smallish sensor will have its side-effects, but a previous generation camera at 10mp in this line-up, the EX-Z1050, got a nice review by Jeff Keller at DCResource.

They also have a camera for buyers on a budget, at $140 plus shipping and handling, you can get the xD-based Olympus FE-240. Available in silver or black, but not a Raiders special edition as far as we know ;-)

And a "glorified" digital picture framae, which can also be used to watch TV, because it's an HDTV :) The Sharp LC-26D43U 26" Aquos LCD TV, black finish, for $700 and free shipping and handling.

Samsung S630, Nikon D80 two lens kit, and other specials at Amazon

Let's see what we have tonight at the Amazon marketplace!

If you are looking for under $100, take a look at the black Samsung S630, offered at $80 by 3rd party seller "17th street photo".

If you want a digital slave flash on cheap, $40 is what you pay for the Quantaray - QMS-D1 Wireless Digital Camera Flash Booster / Slave, offered by Ritz Camera.

More on the budget end of the spectrum, the Sanyo E760, pink, is offered at $126, sold and shipped by Amazon itself. For just $6 more, you can take a look at the Fuji A820, which uses a SuperCCD sensor, but the sensor/engine combo is not as good as in the more expensive Fuji cameras.

At $167, fans of xD or Olympus can take a look at the Olympus FE250, offered at that price by Beach Cameras.

At $160 we have two cameras competing for your hard earned dollars, the Samsung NV7 via Tigerdirect and the Kodak V1003, depending on body color.

At $177, you can get the Panasonic FX12, but keep in mind this is an older model.

    Long Zoooooms
The big Panasonic FZ50 went as low as $430 during the Xmas break, but now it is up to $466. Interesting!

Meanwhile Cameta Cameras has prepared a giant bundle for the Olympus SP550Uz. It goes for $365 and includes the following: Olympus SP-550 UZ 7.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 18x Optical Zoom + Olympus M-2GB xD-Picture Card + Olympus xD-Picture Card Reader/Writer + (4) - 2700mAh AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries w/5 Hour 110-220v Charger + Digital Camera Case.

    The sleek ultracompacts
If you want to consider the camera that stole the hearts of the Japanese market, the Panasonic FX33, available in multiple colors, is offered at exactly $250 and free shipping.

To save $50, you can go for the older Panasonic FX30, offered by the good people of J&R World.

Meanwhile Nikon's sleek Coolpix S51 brown is offered by Ritz Cameras online for $200. Please keep in mind that Ritz Online is a separate entity from the stores, so unlike Circuit City where you can buy online and pick up at the store, with Ritz you have to treat them as two separate companies in terms of purchases, returns and pickups.

    DSLR Specials
Adorama has a bundle of the Nikon D80 with the 18-55 DX lens and the 70-300 DX VR lens for $1359. Details here.

Meanwhile the Nikon D40, with the 18-135 DX mid-range lens is offered at $661, sold and shipped by Amazon itself.

If you find the new Sony A200 attractive, you can pre-order it, for $700, with the 18-70 DT lens. As of now, Sony does not offer a body only version of the Alpha A200 in the USA market.

A camera that is no stranger to popularity is the Nikon D300 offered with the 18-135 DX mid-range lens for $2100 by Cameta Cameras and others.

Meanwhile the new Olympus E3 continues to go for the list price of $1700. This camera was overshadowed by the sonic boom generated by the Nikon D3 and D300 duo, and some people are picking it as the dark horse of the 2008 DSLR market.

Kodak C813, Digital Rebel XTi bundle and other specials at Amazon

The 8mp newly announced Kodak C813 is available for just $120, but you may have to wait 1 to 2 months before it is delivered. This does have a 3x optical zoom lens even. Who said that Kodak was exiting the entry-level digital camera market? (actually it was ...Kodak who said it!)

If you love the Fuji F50fd, and don't mind the 12mp bombing, you can get it for just $224. That's right just $224. Sold and shipped by Amazon itself. This camera was given a highly recommended by dpreview despite the fact that it doubled the megapixels from the critically acclaimed Fuji F31fd model.

The critically acclaimed at DCresource Casio EX-Z1050 is offered by Adorama for the tempting price of $205.

Be the ...envy of the neighborhood with the Samsung NV20 for $292. Unlike the newer NV-Samsungs announced at CES 2008 that use a 1/2.33" sensor, this puppy uses a 1/1.7x" sensor, albeit at *gasp* 12 megapixels.

Love the older Panasonics? The FX10 silver is sold and shipped by Amazon itself for the price of $176. But if you prefer a 2007 model, you can pay almost twice as much, $325, for the 12mp Panasonic FX100. Chose your poison!

$119 is all you pay for the HP R742, sold by Beach Cameras. Goodbye HP cameras, and hello totally rebranded!

For fans of wireless cameras, Cameta Cameras has a special bundle of the Nikon S51c for $255. This is nice for someone who doesn't have a lot of photographic gear or accessories. It can get them up and running with just about everything they need. Although you can never really have enough!

Rebel Rebel put on your Tamron dress! Cameta Cameras has a special bundle of the Canon Digital Rebel XTi, with two Tamron 35mm full frame lenses, an extra battery, 4gb memory card and a few more trinkets for $760. Details here.

If you wanna go SLR old school, 47th street Photo has created a bundle that includes the Canon Rebel K2 film SLR, a Cosina lens and various extras for $200. Please keep in mind a film SLR requires film! :)

Meanwhile the Nikon D80, with the 18-55 DX lens, has remained steady at $880 offered by Adorama. This is in our opinion one of the best bang for the buck DSLRs out there in terms of features vs price.

    Accessories and Others
$80 can get you the 4X Magnifier Loupe by Calumet itself.

This is filed under "Others", not to be confused with Lost's Others, for $3330 you can get the Canon XH A1 1.67MP 3CCD High-Definition Camcorder with 20x Optical Zoom. Are you the next Stephen Spielberg or JJ Abrams? You could be!

And this concludes this update! Stay tuned for more!

Samsung S730 at $100, and other deals at Amazon

At $129, and if you have an xD memory card, you can get the Fuji Z5fd from Beach Cameras.

The red Samsung S730 is offered by Amazon itself for $100 making it a $100 camera deal!. This is a 7mp, 3x optical, SD, AA camera.

If you like this camera, the Canon PowerShot SD40 ELPH (Sepia) Digital Camera with 2GB SecureDigital Card + Spare NB-4L + Padded Carrying Case is offered by Cameta Cameras for $180. A good kit for a starter who doesn't have any digital camera accessories. But this is an older camera and an acquired taste. If you like it though, go ahead!

At $160 you can get the Kodak V1003M which uses a 1/1.8" sensor. Meanwhile the Pentax Z10 is offered at $217. This camera has a 7x folded optics lens which creates some additional trade offs in optical image quality according to some.

Casio makes nicely designed fashionable cameras and the Casio EX Z75 offered via J&R World is one of them that is nicely priced to boot. Mind you it is not the latest model, which is why the price is so nice.

The Olympus E330, body only, is offered by Cameta Cameras for $322. Please keep in mind however that this is an older DSLR and does not have sensor shift image stabilization!

Meanwhile the Pentax K10D is offered at $582, after a $100 mail-in Pentax rebate is received and cashed in. This is of course the body only edition. Compatibility is great as you can chose among millions of K-mount Pentax lenses from throughout of history of photography time.

On the Nikon front, the Nikon D40x with the mid-range 18-135 DX lens is proposed by J&R World for $820. Meanwhile the body only edition is offered at $545, sold and shipped by Amazon itself.

    A Nikon - Tripod - floor-standing is offered by Adorama for $37.50!

    Monday, January 14, 2008

Panasonic LS75 silver for $100 at J&R World

J&R World has a special deal for a $100 camera! This is what we call the $100 camera deal on this blog. It is the Panasonic DMC- for $100 and FREE Shipping! The LS75 is a 7mp camera with a 3x MegaOIS optical zoom, SD/MMC, AA, and it is your typical AA-based entry-level P&S camera.

Also offered is the Olympus 2GB xD Memory Card - Type M for $30 plus a small amount in shipping and handling. As you can see you pay at least 50% to 75% more for memory that is not of the SD/MMC variety. So keep that in mind when you are budgeting your next digital camera purchase. But if you already have Olympus and older Fuji cameras, then you need not worry about this for the moment.

And we conclude with a guilty pleasure, the ASUS EEE PC 4G Surf 7" Micro Notebook - Galaxy Black, for $350 and FREE Shipping! This is a really tiny one! Just a 7-inch screen!

Six hot camera deals at Amazon right now

Feed your Nikon DSLR a versatile lens for $410! At that price you can expect it to be a 3rd party lens, as the Nikkor lenses usually carry a premium. The lens in question is the 35mm full frame Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC HSM Macro Lens for Nikon DSLRs.

Five hot camera deals at Amazon

We have five hot camera deals for you making waves in the Amazon marketplace at this very moment.

We start with a DSLR, the Sony A100H with the 18-200 Sony lens is offered at $920. The A100 is getting discounted as the new Sony A200 has just been announced at CES 2008. The Sony dSLRs have sensor shift stabilization, so you can get that benefit with almost all compatible lenses, be they from Sony, Minolta, Carl Zeiss, or others.

And we go from a DSLR, to an ultracompact bundle, offered by "bundle-me-up" Cameta Cameras for $280. This includes the Casio Exilim EX-S880 (Red) Digital Camera with 2GB SD Memory Card + NP-20 Battery + Case + Cameta Bonus Accessory Kit. This is a nice kit for someone who wants to get started with photography but also wants fashionable and wearable electronics. The kit includes the usual trinkets, like a mini tripod, cleaning supplies, memory card wallet, and such.

If you are looking for a digital camera with some weatherproofness, the Olympus Stylus 830 might be it. It also have image stabilization and a 5x optical zoom lens. It costs $240, and offered by 17th Street Photo.

If you want megapixels at the lowest price, you can get the Kodak V1233 from Adorama at $15 per megapixels. Just like buying fruits and veggetables by the pound! (The price is $180).

And the fifth camera of this round-up is a *drum roll* $100 camera, the Samsung S730 in pink. The camera is available in different colors from different retailers, but the lowest price at this very moment appears to be $100, sold and shipped by Amazon itself.

Cameras advertised by Office Max this week

Office Max advertises a six pack of digital cameras in this week's circular. Let's see if there's anything of interest!

We start with the lowest price camera, the HP M537 offered at just $90. this is a 6mp, 3x optical, SD/MMC, AA, 2.5" LCD, typical entry-level P&S. This is the last round of HP cameras, the next round will be completely outsourced to a 3rd party and just carry the HP brand.

Moving on, the stylish looking Casio EX-Z75 is offered in pink or black for $155, and this is a nice camera for the price, I can't argue with that! Don't expect it to take DSLR-like pictures of course.

Olympus has their FE-280 at $165, nowhere near as stylish as the Casio Exilims, but you can't blame Olympus for at least trying.

If 12-megapixels is your thing, Kodak has the Easyshare Z1275 at $210. They also have their superzoom, the Z712-IS at $230. You can probably get this one closer to $200 online.

And the last one advertised is obnoxiously above current prices, the Panasonic TZ3 is offered at $280, when you can get this for under $250 at Amazon.

Digital camera deals at Staples this week. Run, don't walk!

Finally we starting to see the CES-January after-effects in the market with some nice deals at brick and mortar none the less! Staples office super stores have quite a few for your entertainment!

The Canon Powershot SX100 is offered at the round price of $200. This is an awesome price for brick and mortar and online too! This is Canon's latest "fun zoom" entry and it supports AA batteries. Take a long hard look at it! For comparison, this camera sells for $235 at Amazon.

Also nice price is the Olympus Stylus 790SW, this is the camera you can drop and get wet without problems - but do read the manual to see how much beating it can take. $250 is a nice price for it as well! For comparison the Amazon price ranges from $240 to $270, depending on which camera body color you want. I kid you not!

Next up we have the Canon A570 IS which goes for $150, and this is about the same price as Amazon.

And if you want a really low price, the Olympus FE-210 is offered at $80 after easy rebate. Read below on Easy Rebates if you are not familiar with them. This is AA-based camera, but it uses xD memory cards, so unless you already have xD memory cards, the low price benefit disappears once you buy a couple of memory cards. That's because you can get SD/MMC memory cards at almost half the price of their equivalent xD cards. So this is something to keep in mind!

All apologies to the digital camera purists
We also have two webcams to mention, the Microsoft® NX-6000 Webcam for $50 after easy rebate, and the Microsoft® VX-3000 Webcam $25 after easy rebate. Easy Rebates are Staples rebates that can be submitted online, without mailing anything, or cutting upc codes. They are much better than snail-mail rebates. These are rebates for the people who hate rebates. Of course you should still keep track of them, but they can't get "lost in the mail", or "misplaced to the processing facility". You can track them online from the moment you submit them.

    Some memory cards too
Four Sandisk memory cards are advertised in this week's circular, three of which are at 2gb, and priced as follows: $20 for the standard SD card, $30 for the Ultra II CompactFlash, and $35 for the MemoryStick Pro Duo. Also a 4gb Ultra II SDHC can be yours for $45.

Camera and Photo deals at Amazon

Let's take a look at what's shaking in the camera & foto department at Amazon!

We get started with a big DSLR bundle from Cameta Cameras at the price of $1320. The bundle is as follows, Canon EOS 40D 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera + Spare BP-511 Replacement Battery + Transcend 2GB 133X CompactFlash (CF) Card + High Speed USB 2.0 CompactFlash (CF) Card Reader + Cameta Incognito Deluxe Gadget Bag. The body only is about $1150, so you can do the math and see if this is a better deal for you. This of course depends on how use you have for the items included in the bonus bundle. If you don't have any use for them, then what's the point? But if you do, then it's worth a look!

$300 will get you the Tiffen Dfx Digital Filter Suite Plug-in for Adobe Photoshop - Complete Set of Filters. Please note this is a software package that simulates the behavior of up to 1000 filters. You do not get actual physical filters with this set. Just software!

Sony and gadget fans might be interested in this "not-in-stock" item for $400: The Sony Digital Photo Album. Not your grandfathers photo album for sure! This has an 80gb hard disk drive and gadgetology galore.

The TZ3 is the latest of the Panasonic TZ-series, but if for whatever reason you want to buy the Panasonic TZ1, it is offered by Ritz Cameras Online at Amazon for $250.

A Calumet branded memory card reader for $20? Is that your wish? If yes, you are in luck: RW18Pro 18-in-1 Card Reader.

Meanwhile the GE A1030, black finish, is available for $182 give or take a few dimes.

The camera that is selling faster than sake-soaked hot cakes in Japan is the Panasonic FX33. Partially thanks to this model, Panasonic jumped from #4 to #2 in digital camera sales in Japan for 2007.

Speaking of which, the Leica version of the Panasonic FZ50, the Leica V-Lux 1 is selling for $850 via OneCall.

Nikon D80 fans, Adorama has a nice bundle for you for $1068: Nikon D80 Digital Digital SLR Camera Two Lens Kit, with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom & 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX - USA Warranty.

About 1/10th of that price is the black Samsung L73, $110 via 17th Street Photo. If you like the styling of these cameras then this is a nice price. This is of course a basic P&S type of a camera.

Megapixels by the pound? For $325 you can get the Panasonic FX100 silver, a glorified P&S with a 1/1.7"-ish sensor.

Love the Sony W80? It can be yours for $200 via J&R World. And if you want to pre-order the Sony A200, the price is $700 and this includes the 18-70 DT kit lens. Sony's kit lens is a bit longer than the typical 18-55 "digital" kit lenses offered by Canon, Nikon and Pentax.

And we conclude digitals with a Coolpixie, the Nikon S200 goes for $155 at J&R World.

Forget Digital! Let's get some film cameras!
Digital? Whatever! How about the Seagull GC-104 Medium Format Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) Camera with Built-in 75mm f/3.5 Lens for $140 through Adorama?

Pentax Optio A40 taking pre-orders (Amazon)

The Pentax Optio A40 was a 12mp digital camera that was announced last year by Pentax, but they had to postpone its release because of a fire at a Matsushita factory. That factory was making the LiIon batteries used by the A40, so they had to delay it until the factory was able to recover and make them some batteries. Yet another reason perhaps to go for cameras that use AA batteries, such as the Sanyo Eneloops.

Regardless, the Pentax Optio A40 pre-order price is $300 and Amazon modestly estimates February 15, 2008 to be the release date.

As a refresher, this camera uses a 12 megapixel sensor, sensor shift image stabilization, a mundane 3x optical zoom range, 2.5" LCD, face detection, manual exposure, LiIon battery (as mentioned eariler), and 30fps VGA divx mpeg4 video.

Casio EX-Z1200 and Panasonic FX55 specials at OneCall

We have a trio of digital camera specials at OneCall.com, as part of their Weekend Sale. The weekend sale ends at the end of the weekend :)

First up, we have the black Casio Exilim EX-Z1200BK, going for the price of $280, with free 3-day FedEx shipping included. This, as the name suggests, uses a 12-megapixel sensor, and has the usual features, such as a 3x optical zoom lens, some form of image stabilization which is a relatively new thing for Casios, LiIon battery, and SD/MMC memory card support.

At $268, you can get the Panasonic FX55K Black, an 8mp camera with a 28-100mm equivalent MegaOIS lens, LiIon battery and SD/MMC. Panasonic was one of the first companies to offer MegaOIS in just about every camera they make - except their DSLRs - the irony of that! They were also one of the first to offer 28-100mm lenses on their compact FX-series models. Something that was lacking before that, and just like MegaOIS, it caused a number of other companies to offer it in at least some of their own models. The wonders of competition!

Anyways, now to the third model, the Sony DSLR-A700P w/ DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens is offered at $1850. This is Sony's new mid-range DSLR, with 12mp "DX" sensor, and uses the legendary Minolta mount. The "DT" in Sony-Minolta lenses stands for "digital lens" - lenses that are cropped to match the "DX" cropped sensors, so you can only use it with cropped-sensor DSLRs, meaning all the DSLRs made by Sony and Minolta, but you cannot use it on your film SLRs made by Minolta when it was Minolta, before the Konica-Minolta nonsense :)

    DSLRs and Lenses
The Pentax K100D, not the Super, with the 18-55 DA lens is offered at $500 from Calumet Photo.

Typically at $480 is the old Olympus E500 with the 14-45 kit lens, from Cameta Cameras. No sensor shift stabilization, and 8 Kodak CCD megapixels.

Rebel, rebel, your price is now $430! Adorama is offering the silver D-Rebel XT (350D), body only.

The tempting Nikon D80 with the 18-55 DX lens is offered at $880 via Adorama.

Meanwhile the Olympus E410, body only, is offered at $495. This does not have image stabilization, but it is one of the smallest, if not the smallest DSLRs.

    12 megapixel madness
Camera Cameras has produced a bundle for $270, featuring the Nikon Coolpix S700 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom + USB SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + Spare EN-EL10 Battery for Nikon + Nikon Coolpix Case. A 12 megapixel Coolpixie. Yikes!

It has a 28-280mm equivalent MegaOIS zoom lens, LiIon battery, SD/MMC, and the "fun factor". Shipping is $7 minimum per order, but the camera itself is $3.55. This for UPS Ground.

A good match for this camera is the 1gb Panasonic SD memory card for $10. S&H is $1 for the card, but a minimum of $3 per order for similar-sized items.

And to complete the bundle, you can showcase your pictures with the Smartparts SPX8 8" Wood with Beige Matte SyncPix Digital Picture Frame - Walnut for $170 and with free shipping.

Now if you really want to showcase your pictures with style, then how about the Sony KDL-40XBR3 40" BRAVIA 1080p HDTV LCD Television for $1700 and FREE Shipping?

Panasonic LS75 silver for $100 at J&R World

We have a $100 camera deal to report with free shipping! The Panasonic LS75, a 7mp, 3x MegaOIS entry-level P&S camera is offered at J&R World for exactly $100 and with free shipping and handling!

Panasonic DMC-LS75S Lumix Compact 7-Megapixel Digital Camera - Silver

    FREE Shipping

Obviously don't expect miracles from this price range, this is intended as a basic entry-level camera. This is great to give to kids, or have in your car, office or bag, or take it in places where there is a risk it might get dirty or stolen or be subjected to adverse weather. It uses SD/MMC memory cards and AA batteries so you can just start using it without any additional costs if you have SD/MMC cards and rechargeable AA NiMH batteries, which are highly recommended for digital cameras. If you do not empty your batteries on a daily basis, we recommend using Sanyo Eneloops - they retain their charge for a longer time than traditional AA NiMH rechargeables.

    Thursday camera deals at Amazon

With the CES continuing to buzz, we still haven't seen any significant price drops just yet. But there are some. Here they are right below!

The Panasonic L10 bundled with the Leica 14-50 f3.8-5.6 MegaOIS lens is now down to $1164.

If you want to be a flasher, in a camera way of course, the Sigma EF-530 DG ST Electronic Flash for Canon DSLR goes for $160 via 47th Street Photo.

The Nikon D40 two-lens kit is offered by Cameta Cameras for the round price of $600, that's about $130 more than the one-lens kit. Please note this camera does not like older lenses without the AF motor.

Jump on the lomography bandwagon with the $40 Lomography Supersampler Camera (Blue) set from Adorama.

Jump on the hybrid bandwagon with the Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 6MP Waterproof MPEG4 Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom (White) for $407.

$120 is a low price, but is it good enough for the copper-brown Kodak M753? A camera to look into might be the Kodak Z885 for $142 via Beach Cameras, friends of buydig. Also from them, the Kodak V1003 pink for $156.

More pink! The GE A730 is exactly $100, a General Imaging camera - or something like that!

Mid-week Amazon camera and photo movers and shakers

Lettuce see what is shaking @ zee Amazon Kamera & Foto department! First up there seems to be a strange offering of the Canon 1D by an outfit called "Wall Street Photo" (I haven't heard of them before) at $2000. Not sure what that is, so if you are interested, be sure to research it thoroughly!

And now back to reality: The 12mp Panasonic FX100 silver is offered at $325, which makes it about $27 per megapixel :)

$150 is now the new low price for the Canon Sd40, olive gray, from Cameta Cameras this time around.

$25 will get you Lomographic Action Sampler 35mm Camera from Adorama. Please note this is not a digital camera!. It is a silver salt camera (film camera).

The lovely Sony T20, black, is offered by J&R World for $250.

Red red, not wine, but camera! The red Samsung S730 is offered at $100 even! For $10 less you can get the HP M447.

If you prefer a P&S with some more features, the Samsung S1050, black, is offered at $180 only.

The older Olympus Stylus 730 (not shockproof!) is on sale for $150 through Adorama.

    DSLRs and Lenses
The pre-orders of the Sony A200 are heating up at $700, and that price includes an 18-70 DT lens. As far as Iknow the camera is not available as body only at the moment.

With rumors flying all over the place about a new Pentax K20D and Samsung GX20, the Pentax K10D continues to be a bang for the buck DSLR at $582 after a $100 mail-in rebate from Pentax. This is the body only version.

PS> Please note that if you are not familiar with any of the cameras or 3rd party retailers mentioned above, be sure to research them through!

    What's hot at Amazon today?

Let's take a look at the latest movers and shakers at the Amazon Camera and Photo department.

First up, Adorama has an entry-level bundle for $162, featuring the Nikon Coolpix L15 - Silver, Digital Camera Digital Camera Kit With 1GB SD Memory Card, Nikon Fabric Case, Nikon 2 Year Extended Service Coverage.

This made-for-superstores Powershot is bundled by Cameta Cameras for $280 in this offering: Canon PowerShot A720 IS 8.0 Megapixel Compact Digital Camera with 6x Optical Zoom + Transcend 4GB 150x SecureDigital (SD) Card + High Speed USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + (4) - 2700mAh AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries w/5 Hour 110-220v Charger + Digital Camera Case. The A720-IS is part of a trio of A-series that offers a great bang for the buck. The other two of course being the A560 and the A570-IS.

Cameta also offers a fun zoom bundle at $300, the Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom + Transcend 4GB SecureDigital (SDHC) Card + USB 2.0 SecureDigital (SD) Card Reader + (4) - AA Rechargeable Batteries w/ Charger + Digital Camera Case. This competes with the Sony H3 (also AA) and the Panasonic TZ3 (LiIon) in the booming fun-zoom sub-segment of the super zooms.

Speaking of which, the Panasonic FZ8 is around $250 and it does have RAW! Meanwhile Kodak's IS camera is at $209 through Beach Cameras. The camera? The Kodak Z712 IS.

    The entry-level copper-color Kodak M753 is offered at $119. This is a LiIon-based entry-level.

Another budget camera is the $85 Samsung S830k, in green and other fashionable colors.

The Sony T2 is starting to ship steadily at the standard price of $350, available in multiple colors. Its claim to fame is having a 4gb on-board memory.

The Samsung NV7 is offered at $160 from Tigerdirect as it gets replaced by the 3rd generation of Samsung's NV-series.

$100 flat is what you can pay for the Samsung L730, in silver color. This is a $100 camera deal!

    DSLR World Deals
The Olympus E500 with the 14-45 f3.5-5.6 kit lens is offered at $480 via Cameta Cameras. This is obviously an older model!

The Nikon D200, body only, is offered at $1400 from Cameta and others. This is about $400 below the brand new Nikon D300 which has been generated a lot of camera buzz.

$11 will get you the Hakuba MiniPro II Lens Pen. Don't do your homework with this pen or sign your checks or contracts ;-)

If you have a Nikon-mount DX DSLR and looking for a superzoom VR lens, the Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR [Vibration Reduction] DX Lens + Hoya 72mm UV Haze Protector Glass Filter + CapKeeper Lens Cap Strap + 6-Piece Cleaning Kit is bundled by Cameta Camaras for $700.

Bundled with the 14-50 MegaOIS Leica lens, the Panasonic L1 looks tempting to those who just want the lens, since together they are offerd for $969.

    Movers and shakers at Amazon

While CES is still generating all the buzz in the high tech world, there are still cameras going up anad down in price in the rest of the world. Here is what we found:

The Sony W80 is offered at $200 by J&R World. You bet it's going to be replaced - just like every other camera - the question is whether you need one right now or not. At $155 you can get a Coolpix, the Nikon S200, also by J&R World.

Small camera, small bag, small price: The Case Logic TBC-3 Camera Bag is under $8!

The Samsung L77, black, is offered at $242, sold and shipped by Amazon.

If you are a Lomo-fan, there's an $18 book via Adorama that you might be interested in: Lomographic Holga Book The World through a Plastic Lens. This is a paperback book. Not digital! And at $50 you can get the Lomography Diana+ Medium Format Camera.

And a hybrid for $537. Hybrid camera/camcorder that is: The Sanyo Xacti HD700, a 7MP MPEG-4 High Definition 720p Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom in high-tech brown and other colors.

Meanwhile the Canon 30D, body only, is offered by Adorama and others at $800.

Also the big 35mm full frame Canon 5D, body only of course, is sold and shipped by Amazon itself for $2129. Getting closer and closer to the "magic"$2000 mark.

On the other hand, the Nikon D40X, body only, is offered at $545, sold and shipped by Amazon. Please keep in mind this camera does not play well with older lenses that do not have an AF motor inside.

As we get closer to release time, the pre-orders are heating up for the $200 Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens!

Deal alert: Panasonic LZ7K for $130 with free shipping from J&R World

We have a special deal for you! The Panasonic LZ7K (6x MegaOIS lens, AA batteries) is on sale for $130 with free shipping from J&R World!

Panasonic DMCLZ7K Lumix 7 Megapixel Digital Camera - Black

    FREE Shipping

If you are not familiar with the Panasonic LZ7K, be sure to check some of the published reviews on the net. At this price point, $130, it makes for a good carryaround camera - although keep in mind this is not an ultracompact carryaround. But given the price it's a camera you can leave in your car or bag or at the office and won't cry too much if it gets lost, stolen or damaged.

It takes SD/MMC memory cards and AA batteries which makes it less expensive to accessorize since you are likely to have some of both lying around. As always, please use rechargeable AA NiMH batteries in digital cameras. They are good for your pocket and good for the environment. And even better are the rechargeable AA NiMH batteries that retain their charge over time. More convenient and fewer recharges over time, which saves the battery and a few hairs of electricity too. Check our write up on the Sanyo Eneloops for more.
