Canon 1D Mark III, Nikon D200, Olympus E410 and more specials at OneCall.com

Lots of specials of the weekend at OneCall. Prepare your credit cards, this is going to hurt! So let's get started!

If you are convinced the focus issues are in the rear-view mirror, the Canon EOS-1D Mark III (Body Only) is tempting at $3869 at OneCall.com. This is more than $200 less than Adorama, and $300 less than Amazon and $400 lens than B&H Photo! OneCall is one of the most reputable online retailers, and it is located on the west coast, so it may be closer and faster to get your orders if you are on the west, southwest and mountain west!

Caught between the Nikon D300 at $1800 and hard to find and the Nikon D80? Then the dropping price of the Nikon D200 (Body Only) may be the compromise. Current price at 1Call is $1219, and with free shipping!

Meanwhile those who want to get started with DSLR photography, and are not afraid of the Four-Thirds system, have a great deal: The Olympus EVOLT E-410 2 Lens Kit for $550 and free 3-day FedEx shipping included! This is nice! A good DSLR and two kit lenses. These are the new smaller 4/3rds kit lenses that match the E410 in size.

If you want a really small camera, the Canon PowerShot SD850 IS is offered at $236 with free 3-day FedEx shipping.

If you are a fan of the Panasonic Lumix cameras, the Panasonic FX55 - pink color, goes for $200 and free 3-day fed ex shipping too!

Leap into camera deals at Fry's electronics!

Fry's has quite a few leap day specials today, Friday February 29, 2008. Let's take a look at the most notable cameras in terms of discounts, starting with the lowest price first. Which is the Samsung S73, a basic P&S with a 3x zoom lens for just $77. That's right, seventy-seven dollars, not a typo!

Also a basic P&S is the Olympus X-775, which appears to be a derivative model of the AA-based FE-210 - or soemthing like that. Price is right at $97, assuming you are not allergic to the xD memory card format which costs almost twice as much as SD/MMC and it is only used by Olympus and Fuji digital cameras (along with memory card readers of course).

Next up, at $127, we have the brand new Sony Cybershot S730. Wowie, a brand new Sony for so little? It even has a 3x zoom lens! Well, Sony wants two things: Market Share and to hook you into their line-up and get you to start buying Memory Sticks!

Next up, at $230 we have the Olympus FE-300, and at $277 is the Panasonic FX55. Those are the most interesting in terms of price, there's a few more you can check out at Frys.com or in your local newspapers.

Digital Cameras at Circuit City this week (February 24 thru March 1st)

So what do the good people of Circuit City offer for us this week? Let's take a peek inside their circular ad, which is available online and offline. Offline being the Sunday paper of course.

DSLR World
The black finish Digital Rebel XTi, with the 18-55 EF-S kit lens is offered at $650, a price that won't undercut the online retailers, but it's not bad for brick and mortar, especially if you don't want to wait - eg buy online pick up at the store within 24 minutes. Or if you have a Circuit city gift card to burn! Don't let it sit! Spend spend spend :)

Meanwhile the Canon EOS 40D 10.1-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Kit with 28-135mm Lens is offered at $1400. Also keep in mind there is a financing special at Circuit city, no interest for 12 months for purchases $249 or more. Be sure to read the terms and conditions and fineprint and tinyprint and such :)

Point and Shoot Digital Cameras
In the world of P&S, the pink Panasonic LS80, a brand new 2008 model, will be offered at $150. This is Panasonic's new entry-level P&S camera.

But if you are bargain hunting, and love red cameras, be sure to check out the Casio Exilim EX-Z77, at just $140, in an exclusive red color at Circuit. BARGAIN ALERT!

Meanwhile the Sony W90, black, is offered at $220, the Cybershot W80 at $190, and the more entry-level AA-based Cybershot S700 at $130. Not a bad price for Sony, assuming you don't object to the Memory Stick Pro Duo. Meanwhile its arch-rival in compacts, Canon is offering the Powershot G9 at $470, about $20 above the Amazon price.

Last and least too, the HP M547 is offered at just $80, even though it has a 3x optical zoom lens. This is HP's farewell tour of the digital camera market, before they outsource their brand to 3rd parties. This for digital cameras, not everything else they make.

Memory Card Deal
The SanDisk 4GB Ultra II CompactFlash Card is offered at $55. This is a nice price for a brick and mortar chain store. For more details, click on the picture right below.

Check all the Weekly Specials
For all the weekly specials by Circuit City, check the link below. It is autmoatically updated every week so you should be seeing the latest, regardless of when you are reading this post, be it right now, or months or years later - one can hope :)

Cameras deals at Staples this week

Not a whole lot this week at Staples, only three camera models are listed and that's about it, but the prices are not that bad for brick and mortar! So here we go:

Sony Cybershot S700 for $120, not a bad price for those who like AA batteries and Memory Stick Pro Duo. At $160, you can get the Canon Powershot A570 IS. This is a very competitive price to brick and mortar! Not bad at all actually. And this is a best bang for the buck type of a camera. If you want to pay an extra "food stamp" and a half, you can get the A720 IS instead at Amazon.

Last but not least the Kodak Easyshare Z885 is listed at $170. This camera uses an 8mp 1/1.8" sensor, not the smaller sensors of 1/2.5" found in today's 8mp compacts.

Dollar Days Digital Camera Deals at Office Max

Office Max is celebrating their Dollar Days sale with some interesting digital camera deals. For those not familiar, Office Max does not do rebates, so what you pay is what you pay! If you are allergic to rebates, Office Max is for you!

Save up to $49.99 Digital Cameras Including, Kodak, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, and Sony!

The biggest deal is the Olympus FE-210 offered for just $69. That's right, just $69 for a digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens, and AA-based batteries. Be advised however that this camera, like all Olympus digital cameras, takes xD memory cards, which are more expensive than SD/MMC memory cards and are not really used in anything other than Olympus and Fuji digital cameras, and memory card reader drives.

A more advanced camera for $130 is the Canon Powershot A560, a member of the legendary Canon A-series of digicams. If you are buying for a specific price range, this is great. You might also want to take a look at the A570-Is and A720-IS if you want to spend some more, but stay under $200.

From the world of DSLRs, for those who love the Nikon mount, and do not plan on using older lenses without a focus motor, the Nikon D40 with 18-55 lens is offered at exactly $500. A good way for someone to jump into the world of DSLR and SLR photography, without spending too much money at the same time.

If you want to have a camera that won't be ruined if you like to mix it up, the Olympus Stylus 790SW in multiple colors has waterproof seals and gaskets and works underwater, can survive short drops, and keep dust and water out. But it's not indestructible, so be sure to read the user manual to find out what its limitations are!

If you prefer a more stylish but fragile camera, the Canon Powershot SD 750 can be yours for just $220. This is a slightly older camera, but does have a 3" LCD. It does not have an optical viewfinder however. Granted, the OVFs on these tiny cameras are more tunnel vision than viewfinders, but you have to give Canon credit for not abandoning them completely like some of the other digital camera manufacturers have done!

These are just some of the specials, be sure to check the complete list of this week's deals at Office Max!

Digital camera deals at Best Buy this week

Best Buy has a new circular in the Sunday paper featuring the usual assortment of digital cameras on sale. Let's see what is up this week!

The Canon G9 is offered at $450, which is the new concensus price, online and offline it seems. Also from Canon, the Digital Rebel XTi with the 18-55 lens is at $700 (a bit high, eh?) and bundled with the 75-300mm in a 2-lens kit for $830.

Sony wants market share, and one way to get it is with the Sony W55 at $150, and the Cybershot H3 for $300. And if you you like the Sony S700 or want an extra one, and at the same time you like the HP Pavilion DV 2754SE notebook computer, you can get those two, along with a 160gb 2.5" portable Passport hard disk drive for the one low price of $990. Combined savings of $260 according to Best Buy.

Kodak has its own duo in the ad, the Easyshare C613 for just $90, making it a sub-$100 camera deal, and the super-zoom Easyshare Z812 IS for $250. No RAW however.

Memory cards
The Sandisk 2gb Ultra II high speed SD memory card is now down to $20, which is awesome since this is an UItra II, not a standard Sandisk card. Nice!

Next up, the 4gb SDHC Sandisk SDSDB-4096-A11 is offered at $30, which puts it at $7.50 per gigabyte, which is a nice price for portable flash storage!

For those tortured by proprietory memory card formats, the 1gb Fuji xD card is offered at $25, and the 2gb Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo is at $30.

Digital camera deals at Office Depot (2/24 - 3/1/08)

Office Depot has specials on select digital camera models, providing discounts of up to $75 for those models. Some of them are actually so nice that they are lower than Amazon and other reputable online sellers! Oh my!

So without further ado, let's take a look! The star of the lot is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3K, offered at $225 in-store and $250 online!

Next up, the Canon A720 ISicon is available for $180 in-store and $200 online.

Other in-store deals available, the Canon SD1000 for $150, the Panasonic LS75 for $100, the Nikon Coolpixie L11 for $80 which makes it an instant BARGAIN ALERT!

The Ativa USB memory card reader is just $6, yes, just six dollars! It is available for SD, CF, Memory Stickie Pro Duo and Micro SD. No rebates!

The top memory card deals are probably the 4gb Sandisk Ultra II Compactflash for $45, and the Memorystick equivalent for $55. You can also get a 2-pack of standard Sandisk 2gb SD memory cards for $30. That comes out to $7.50 per gigabyte :)

You can also check the Weekly Specials.

Verge Camera Case - Black just $4 at Circuit City

We have a great bargain for you at Circuit City! The Verge Camera Case, black color, is offered at just $4. That's right, just four dollars! It is available online and also in-store. You can check at the website for in-store availability.

Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 weatherproof hybrid in blue$400 at AmazonThis is a hybrid, I guess it's also good for the environmetn since it tries to replace two devices with one. This is not to take anything away from this guy, but that's just how things are with do-it-all devices.
Kodak V803 pink$130 at AmazonThe biggest claim to fame is a 1/1.8" sensor, instead of the smaller 1/2.5" found in other compact and sub-compact cameras for the mass market. As always, be sure to check reviews, sample pictures, but also actual real-world pictures.

Panasonic FX55$220 at OneCall, available in Pink and in BlackThis is a nice price drop. A week ago this camera was going for $280 or so. Obviously there are new 2008 models, but this may be a steal at $220! BARGAIN ALERT!

Digital Camera deals at Fry's Electronics (Friday February 22, 2008)

Let's see what Fry's Electronics is advertising in their friday newspaper ads, and whether there's anything of interest there.

First up, the lovely Canon G9 is offered at the very reasonable price of $450 for brick and mortar. Amazon itself has it for $440 or so.

Next comes the blockbuster fun zoom camera, the Panasonic TZ3, offered at the very nice price of $250. Not bad! But please keep in mind that two new models were announced in January 2008, the Panasonic TZ5, which is available for pre-order at $350, and the TZ4 which lists for $300.

Next up, two nice deals from Casio, especially the EX-Z77 offered at just $127! This is amazing, considering this is quite a stylish and refined looking camera for the price! If you prefer an ultra-sleek ultra-compact, red model, yes, red color, with the gadgety-sounding ceramic lens, all you need to pay $197. You don't have to confess to anyone, but this is the ideal camera for those who want to use this camera as high-tech bijou! We know you do that! We know!

Ok, silliness aside, the Sony S730 is a market share grabber model from Sony as it is a brand new camera yet it is offered at $127. And people thought camera-phones would dry up the entry-level digital camera market. Think again! The price is amazing considering. Assuming of course you can stomach Memory Sticks. The price is similar to Amazon.

Moving along, the Kodak V803 is doing its farewell tour at Fry's at $147. Not a bad price, but you can probably find it for less online. Despite the 8-megapixels, this camera actually uses a larger 1/1.8" sensor, so keep that in mind. But just because it has a larger sensor, it doesn't necessarily mean its hunky dory. As with all cameras mentioned, be sure to check reviews, previews, samples and actual pictures! We blog, you decide!

And on the sub-$100 front, we have two models, the Kodak C713 for $88 and the Olympus X-775 for $97. We are not sure which model FE-model the X-775 translates to, but it looks like an FE-210 type, with AA batteries and a 3x optical zoom lens.

Fuji S8000fd nice deal after $50 Fuji mail-in rebate

Fujifilm has recently introduced a $50 mail-in rebate for the Fuji S8000fd super zoom digital camera. This makes the price even more tempting, and a borderline deal, depending on how much this particular camera fits your needs.

The price is $320 before the rebate. After you submit and receive the mail-in rebate, the price will effectively be $270! You also get free super saver shipping from Amazon, and also a free 2gb SD memory card, or a $12.50 discount towards a higher-capacity card. Memory card offer details here.

Not familiar with the S8000fd? Here are some of the many reviews posted online: Imaging Resource, Photoxels.com, Photography Blog, and dpreview. There's plenty more reviews, Google is your new best friend :-)

Panasonic FX55 for $220 on Amazon (bargain alert!)

We have a bargain alert for you! The Panasonic FX55, black finish, is on sale at Amazon for $220, sold and shipped by Amazon. Also offered at that price is through OneCall.com. There is a seller called "6ave" offering it for $215. We are not familiar with that seller. We recommend however the Amazon (sold and shipped by Amazon.com) or the OneCall purchase at $220.

Not familiar with the Lumix FX55? Be sure to check some of the reviews on the net, including DC Resource featuring Jeff Keller, PC World, CNet-Asia, Pop Photo and lots more!

This camera has a 1/2.5" sensor, and a 28-100mm 35mm equivalent lens. This is a plus for fans of wide-angle compact digital cameras. It uses a LiIon battery, SD/MMC memory cards and such.

Deal? Samsung NV10 for $200 at Amazon

Hello Samsung fans, the Samsung NV10 is on sale at Amazon for the nice price of $200 with free super saver shipping.

You can also receive a free 2gb SD memory card, if you buy from Amazon, sold and shipped by Amazon itself, not by any of the 3rd party sellers selling in the Amazon Marketplace, or the featured sellers like J&R, OneCall, Adorama, etc.

You also receive a coupon for a free 8x8 photo book (a $29.99 value) from Shutterfly. See the Amazon product page mentioned above for details.

The NV10 uses a 10mp 1/1.8" sensor, not to be confused with the 2008 10mp 1/2.33" sensor. It has a 3x optical zoom lens, without optical or sensor-shift stabilization. This was one of the first three NV-series Samsung cameras announced.

Not familiar with the NV10? Here are a few reviews, first at CNet, then at DC Resource, and a ...trusty review at Trusted Reviews. For more reviews, user reviews, sample and actual real world images, Google and PBase and Flickr are your friends :-)

Camera deals at Circuit City this week

We have some interesting deals at Circuit City this week, partially thanks to the Presidents' Day weekend! We already mentioned the Samsung S73 offered at $80. That special price is only good before Tuesday. Not sure where the price will go on Tuesday.

DSLR Deals
The Nikon D40X with the kit lens is on sale for the price of $650. This DSLR is at 10 megapixels, but please keep in mind that it expects the lenses to have a focus motor. If you are just starting out, or you have no interest in no lenses, then it is a non-issue.

Compact digital cameras
If you love superzooms, the 18X Olympus SP-560uz is now listed at $400. Not familiar with this camera? Be sure to check for reviews. Google is your friend :)

Two sleek ultracompact Casio cameras are on sale, first up the Casio Exilim EX-S880 for just $200. This is ultrathin and it uses the new ceramic lens technology. Just don't expect it to behave like a Canon L-series lens :) The second Casio is the special bundle of the EX-Z77 for $160. What is the special bundle? An extra battery, extra mini tripod and extra case! Not bad! Infact, we will upgrade this to a BARGAIN ALERT!

If you love the nice and sleek style of the Sony T-series, you might be interested in the Sony Cybershot T200 offered at $370. Please keep in mind that Sony has a newer model in this series, the T300, which is available for pre-ordering.

If you are a Sony fan, but don't want to spend much, and you are not allergic to Memory Sticks, then for just $130, you can get the brand new Sony Cybershot S730.

Memory Cards
The SanDisk 2GB SD Card (2-Pack), model SDSDB22048A11 is offered for $30. Because this is a nice price, it may be out of stock for a while.

Olympus Stylus 1200 black for $230 and free shipping at J&R World

J&R World has a special offer for you! The Olympus Stylus 1200, in black finish, is offered by J&R World for the tempting price of $230, with free shipping. That uses a 1/1.7"-ish sensor, which is bigger than what most digital cameras in the world of compacts use these days.

Camera deals at Office Depot this week

Let's take a look at what Office Depot has in-store (and online) for us during the Presidents Day weekend and week. These are from the Sunday paper circular. Check your local newspaper or the Office Depot website for more details.

The main offer is $50 off any digital camera priced at $249 or more. You can also get a free after $100 mail-in rebate Epson photo printer, when you purchase it with a digital camera. The free printer model name is not mentioned.

The Canon PowerShot SD750 ELPH goes down to $200 after the instant discount. This is a slightly older camera but it features a 3" LCD, which will make it popular with friends of 3" LCD. It does not however have an optical viewfinder so keep that in mind!

Zoom! Zoom! Long zooms are very popular among digital camera buyers! The very popular Canon S5 IS is at $350 after the discount. This has a "modest" 12X zoom ratio, compared to other manufacturers jumping as much as a 20X room ratio lens. Oh the silliness! Also zooming in is the Sony H7 at $300 even. This has a 15X zoom lens, a Cybershot model, but keep in mind that the 15X Sony's haven't received as much of a warm welcome as some of their previous models. This of course depends on your priorities.

If you want a slightly smaller and cheaper superzoom from Canon, you can consider their attempt at the "fun zoom" market, the Canon SX100 IS which is down to $250.

Also advertised is the Canon SD850-IS for $250 and the Canon Digital Rebel XT with the 18-55 EF-S lens for $500. Yes, a $500 Canon DSLR with a kit lens! Granted, this is an older DSLR, but it still works quite well :)

This week at Ritz and Wolf cameras (from the Sunday paper)

Let's zoom into this week's Ritz and Wolf Cameras sunday paper circular ad to see what they have in-store for us for the President's Day weekend.

To celebrate the day, they have the Presidents Penny sale, where you get an extra item for just 1c more. We'll mention those as we go through the ad.

DSLRs
The Nikon D40 with the 18-55 lens is priced at $500, and if you but it, for just 1c more you can get a fleece-lined coat, an $80 value according to Ritz. A strange combo you ask? We agree!

A more reasonable combo is the Nikon D300 body only at $1800 or $1900 with the 18-55 kit lens (oh the silliness of this kit). For just 1c more you can get either the Quantaray 18-50mm lens or the 55-200 AF lens. The Quantaray lenses are valued at $100 according to Ritz. Quantaray is a house brand used by Ritz. The lenses are manufactured usually by the Japanese "third party" lens maker. We are not sure who makes this particular lens.

The Canon Digital Rebel XTi with the 18-55 EF-S lens is offered at $700. For 1c more you can get the Quantaray 55-200 AF lens.

Lens-wise, the hot Nikon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR is offered at $750. You can get this lens at Amazon for under $700.

Back-wise, the Tamrac backpack 4372 is offered at $50, and the Explorer 1 1501 at $300, in black or blue. Also, the Quantaray by Sunpak QSX-6601TM tri-monopod goes for $40. If you remove the center column, it becomes a monopod, thus the tri-monopod name. A more advanced model is the QSX 9002TM for $60, also a tri-monopod.

Compact digital cameras
The bang for the buck Powershot A570 IS is at $150 and a nice price for this Canon. No need to buy it online just to save $5 to $10. Nikon fans have the option to get the Coolpix S51 for $180, with a choice of four fashionable colors. This model has a 3" LCD for those who care. Also with a 3" LCD is the Canon SD750, a slightly older camera which is explains why its price is now down to $200.

The Nikon Coolpix L11 is offered at just $90. That's right a big name camera for under $100. Of course don't expect this to behave like a Nikon DSLR :-)

Panasonic's LZ6-K (black finish) is offered at $130, not bad for a camera with a 6x stabilized zoom lens!

Lights! Camera! Fashion! The Casio EX-Z77 is offered in an exclusive Ritz kit which includes a tripod, case, software and ... a YouTube t-shirt. That's right, a YouTube t-shirt! Available in pink, blue or silver. Yum!

The Fuji S700 (aka S5700) is offered at $200, but keep in mind that this camera does not have optical or sensor-shift stabilization. For just a few more dollars you can get a model with sensor-shift stabilization. Both the Canon SX100 IS and the Panasonic TZ3 are offered at around $230 from Amazon.

If you like wide angle on a budget, the Nikon P50 is offered at $180. However this price is not so hot, you can get it at Amazon for $150 and free shipping.

Last but not least, the first Olympus 18x hyperzoom, the SP-550uz is offered at $330. Clearly a high price :)

There is also a special financing deal, no interest for cameras or camdcorders over $299 if you pay the full amount by December 2008. See store or website for complete details of this special financing offer.

Accessories
A special purchase, an 8" digital photo frame with a remote control, of unmentioned brand, is offered at $100 even.

For those with need for both SD and microSD memory cards, you can get one 512mb Sandisk card and get a second one for 1c more. So you pay $9 and you get two 512mb Sandisk SD+microSD memory cards.

Presidents Day digital cameras at Fry's Electronics

Let's take a quick look at what fry's electronics is advertising in the newspaper on Sunday and the presidents' day holiday shopping. First up, the Olympus EVolt E510 with the new 14-42 digital Zuiko lens is offered at $547 after instant savings. Not bad given that this camera has sensor-shift image stabilization. And if you can get (or mooch) the OM adapter, you can use old Olympus OM lenses on it. With some limitations of course on the OM lenses and a 2X 35mm equivalency in terms of focal length (field of view crop etc). But there are some nice OM lenses out there!

On the shiny silver front, the Canon SD1000 is offered at $179, while the more "mature" SD-Elph is offered at $320. Fry's seems to have the wrong model name, their ad mentions Canon SD-810 IS.

Also from Canon, the lovely A720-IS, a made for electronics superstores bang for the buck digital camera with a 6x stabilized optical zoom lens is offered at the tempting price of $199.

On the accessories front, th e Ality AL-MD1 8" premium digital photo frame is offered at $197. This has 512mb of internal memory and the usual assortment of features.

And for those into exotic "cameras", the Crayola VGA camera is $39 while the Disney 626 gives it a run for its money at $44. The battle of the VGA super digicams! ;-)

Hot camera deals and pre-orders at Amazon

Let's see what we have at Amazon at this hour! Fans of the big Fujis will be delighted that the Fuji S9100 is available for $439 via Bech Cameras. Those who prefer the brand new Fuji S100fs, can get in-line by placing an $800 pre-order. The good news is that the pre-order has a price guarantee, so if the price drops before it ships, or up to 30 days after it ships, you can request an adjustment so you get the lowest price.

Meanwhile Adorama has a nice bundle of the Canon S5 IS, for the price of $370. This includes a 2gb SD memory card, camera case, lens cleaning kit, and photography guide.

Hot pre-orders
The Sony W170, the new wide-angle W-series model from Sony is popular at the pre-order price of $300, and available in various colors.

Speaking of pre-orders, the newly announced Nikon 16-85mm AF-S DX VR lens is available for pre-order at the tempting price of $650. This is a DX lens, so it will only work with Nikon mount DSLRs that use DX/APS-C size sensors. In practice: It won't work with the Nikon D3, or any of the Nikon 35mm film SLRs. Film SLRs? Yes, people still use them you know :)

Also hot on pre-orders is the Canon Digital Rebel XSi, offered at $800 body only, and $900 with the new IS EF-S kit lens. This DSLR "borrows" features from Canon's more higher end models, making it an interesting option for DSLR buyers.

Samsung S730 black just $90 at Amazon

We have a special deal for those interested in scooping up a bargain basement digital camera. For just $90, you can get the 7mp Samsung S730,which features a 3x optical zoom lens, two AA batteries, and SD/MMC memory card support. The camera ships for free with super saver shipping by Amazon.

But wait there's more! There's also a special offer for a free photo book, details here:

Receive a unique coupon code for a free 8x8 photo book (a $29.99 value) from Shutterfly when you purchase this product between January 1 and March 31, 2008. (Applies only to products sold by Amazon.com. Does not apply to products sold on our site by third-party merchants or through third-party areas such as Amazon.com Marketplace, Auctions, or zShops.)

As with all AA-powered electronics, it is recommended to use rechargeable batteries, they are beneficial both to your pockets and to the environment. And if you don't drain the batteries on a frequent basis, you may want to look into batteries that retain their charge over time, this saves the battery life because of fewer recharges, and also allows you to pick up the camera and not worry whether the power has drained over time. Such rechargeables that retain their charge over time are the Sanyo Eneloops.

Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC HSM Macro for $407 at Amazon (Nikon mount)

Lens fans of the Nikon mount, who do not object to non-Nikon lenses might be interested in the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC HSM MACRO lens for $407 with free super saver shipping.

Not familiar with this mid-range lens? Be sure to check out its review at PhotoZone. The review is for the Canon flavor, but you can get a good idea since they are both made by Sigma.

And if you are not familiar with Sigma speak, DC means that the lens is designed for smaller sensored DSLRs, of the APS-C variety. HSM means hyper-sonic motor, which is Sigma's version of the new technology that allows faster and quieter auto-focusing. You may have heard of the terms used by other makers, such as USM (Canon), AF-S (Nikon), SDM (Pentax), SWM (Olympus), etc.

Casio EX-Z1200 and Olympus Stylus 1200 on special from J&R World

J&R World has a few new specials for this week, focusing (no pun intended) on 12-megapixel cameras! Both camera use the larger 1/1.8" or 1/1.7x" sensors, so they might be of interest to users who are not as excited about 1/2.5" sensor cameras. Of course the megapixels are more, so the larger sensor advantage is trade-off with the increase in the number of pixels.

If you are not familiar with either camera, be sure to check some of their reviews and user pictures posted online. Some examples of reviews, first for the Casio EX-Z1200, at Cnet, digitalcameratracker. Stylus 1200 reviews at Steve's Digicams and digicamera.com.

Sony A700 price drop, now $1372 by Ritz on Amazon

The Sony A700 DSLR is offered by Ritz Cameras on Amazon for the new low price of $1372. This is the most highly spec'ed Sony DSLR so far, but there is a flagship DSLR coming later this year, likely at Photokina 2008. That one will be the Sony Alpha A900 and will be using the 25mp 35mm-full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor, but its price is expected to be quite high. To compare, the Nikon D3 is at $5000 and it's "only" 12 megapixels.

If you are not familiar with the Alpha A700, be sure to check the reviews posted on it by Simon and Phil at dpreview, DCresource with Jeff Keller, Shutterbug, yes, the magazine, Camera Labs and many others. Be sure to study the reviews in detail, because there will be a pop-up quiz later on ;-)

Sigma SD14 with 18-200 DC OS lens for $950, Cameta on Amazon

Fans of the Sigma SD14, there is a special offer for you via Cameta Cameras on Amazon. The Sigma SD14 DSLR, along with the 18-200 DC OS lens, are offered together for the price of $950, which is a nice deal considering the lens alone goes for around $500, and the DSLR body only is about $700 or more.

You can check reviews of the SD14 at Pop Photo, Photography Review, CNet, and Sigma User among many other sites.

As far as the lens, Photozone.de has a review of the Canon version

Pre-orders for Panasonic TZ5, Olympus FE-340, Panasonic SDR-SW20 and more

The Kodak V803 is offered at around $140, depending on color and retailer.

The Samsung S1050, black, is offered by Adorama for the price of $175. This uses a larger sensor and AA batteries and has some manual control features. It's no Canon A-series of course, but it might be of interest to those who think the world does not revolve around Canon cameras.

If you think the world revolves aroudn Panasonic cameras, the Panasonic FX33 is available for around $250. This camera was very popular in Japan in 2007 and helped Panasonic jump to the #2 spot in market share in Japan for the year 2007. They were at #4 in 2006.

If you like Stylus cameras, the Stylus 810 is offered by Adorama at the price of $188.

Accessories
Fans of the Leica Digilux 3 may be interested in the Leica BP-DC4 Lithium Ion Battery for Digilux 3 SLR Digital Camera for $59, offered by reputable 3rd party seller OneCall.com

What can $20 get you? A dinner at Chili's? Or perhaps a Lowepro Rezo 60 Camera Case (Black). It's not as hard to digest either at that price ;-)

Rebel Rebel! For just under $50 you can get the Canon EH-18L Semi-Hard Case for the EOS Digital Rebel XT/XTi Camera. To translate, these are the Canon EOS 350D and 400D models.

Pre-ordering
If you like hybrids, no, not cameras, but camera/camcorder hybrids, the Panasonic SDR-SW20 Waterproof Flash Memory Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom (Red) is offered for $400.

Also hot is the Panasonic TZ5, available in silver, blue or black, for the pre-order price of $350. Amazon has a pre-order and post-order price guarantee, so if the price drops up to 30 days after your order ships, you can request a correction and receive a refund of the difference between what you paid, and the lowest price.

The Olympus FE340 is offered at $200, and it features a 5x optical zoom lens. Available in multiple colors and using a LiIon battery. Sadly uses an xD memory card.

Also pre-orderable at $150, is the Kodak M763, available in multiple fashionable colors, and using a LiIon battery.

Zoom zoom! But no optical or sensor shift stabilization for the Fuji S1000fd. If that's not an issue, the pre-order price is $250. This uses a standard sensor, not a SuperCCD Fujifilm sensor.

Get in line for the Panasonic DMW-CT3-K Leather Case for Panasonic TZ3 Digital Camera. Not in stock at the moment for this $45 bag for the popular fun zoom camera.

And $30 is what you pay Cameta Cameras to get this: Nikon Digital & Film SLR System Case Gadget Bag for D300, D200, D100, D80, D70s, D70, D50, D40x, D40, N55, N65, N75, N80, N90s & F100 DSLRs and SLRs.

Camera deals at Radio Shack this week (2/10 to 2/16/08)

What does Radio Shack have in-store for us this week? Some nice deals, that's for sure!

First up, at $100 flat you can get the pink Samsung S73, and as a bonus you will receive a 1gb Sandisk SD memory card.

Moving up the price ladder, at $150 you have a choice of the GE E850 which starts at 28mm wide and with a 5x optical zoom lens, and the Kodak M853, in valentine red. The GE camera comes with a 1gb SD card as a bonus, while the Kodak comes with a 512mb bonus SD card.

Moving on up to $180, the Samsung S1050 also comes with a 1gb SD card. This camera uses AA batteries, has a 1/1.8" sensor, 5x optical zoom lens (but does not start at wide), and has some manual photographic controls as well.

Radio Shack has a special financing offer as well, 12 months no interest with a minimum in-store purchase of $199 or more. You do have to make monthly payments however.

Accessorize!
You can also buy a 2gb Sandisk SD memory card for $20, a typical brick and mortar price. If you prefer a 4gb SDHC, you can have it for $30, a better price per gigabyte, but you do put more eggs in one basket. Your choice!

For more details, and to find a local store near you, be sure to check RadioShack.com.

Camera deals at Fry's Electronics

Fry's Electronics has a four-pack of digital cameras of interest advertised in their Sunday paper ad. The most interesting price-wise is the red-red-wine Casio Exilim EX-S880 offered at $188. Math geeks can appreciate the symmetry there. This is the one with the ceramic lens, which is why it's so small and cutesy.

A bigger sensor, and not as cutesy, but still sleek compared to the rest of the manufacturers is the 10mp 1/1.8"-ish Casio EX-Z1080. The price is not bad, it is $230. Don't forget that Casio appears to be moving towards EX Z-series cameras with smaller sensors (1/2.33") with their 2008 models, so this may be a hard to find model in a few weeks/months.

Moving along, Panasonic is offering their FX-33, the camera that helped them take over the #2 spot in Japan for 2007 is offered at $247. Not the best of prices though since you can get it at Amazon for less, and no shipping and no sales tax.

The last of the serious cameras advertised is the Canon A650 IS, marred by early light leak issues. The camera is a poor man's G9 in some ways, but has twice the battery life when using the latest NiMH batteries. It goes for $330, a good 1.5 price stops below the G9.

Fry's also advertises the Disney Cameras model 626, no, not a Mazda. Price is $44. They even have a 1" color LCD. I assume they might even take pictures ;-)

They also offer an 8.4" digital photo frame from Lasonic, not Laconic, for $127. This is Lasonic model JL-305.

Hot pre-order: Canon Powershot A590 IS for $180

This is a great camera for the recession! That's right, I just used the R-word! At just $180, the Canon A590 IS uses AA batteries and SD/MMC memory cards, which are the most affordable solutions. The camera has IS and PSAM, making it versatile enough for someone to learn about photography in an affordable compact package!

Camera deals this week at Office Max (February 10 to 16, 2008)

Let's dig into the Sunday paper, or dig into the Office Max website to see what digital cameras they are advertising in this week's circular!

Digicam fans are in good luck as they have a whole page of cameras! That's right a whole page. Office Max is particularly popular with people who are allergic to rebates, because Office Max does not use rebates!

On the Canon front, they are offering the Powershot S5 IS for $350, and surpriingly that's the only Canon they advertise this week!

On the Nikon front, the Coolpix L11 is offered at exactly $100 (plus tax where applicable) making it a $100 camera deal! This is an entry-level digital camera as you can expect.

On the Sony front, the Cybershot T70 is offered at $280, along with a bonus 512mb memory stick pro duo. This is one of the sleekest looking camera line-ups, the Sony T-series.

Casio makes very sleek looking cameras as well, and for just $150, you can get the lovely EX-Z77. Check it out!

On the Kodak front, the V1253 includes a 1gb SD memory card for just $200, and that's a 12 megapixel camera, so you if like to buy megapixels the way you buy groceries (by the pound), take a look at it ;-)

Also from Kodak, the M853 with a free 1gb SD card is offered at $140. Don't let the price fool you, this camera actually uses a LiIon battery. Typically cameras in the under $150 price range use AA batteries, but this is changing too.

Olympus on the other hand, has the FE-280 listed at $160, the Stylus 820, which does not have optical or mechanical (sensor shift) stabilization at $230, and the Stylus 790SW at $250.

Accessories take a 25% discount across the board, while select Kodak and Canon photo papers have a buy 1 get 1 free special offers. Also various memory cards are discounted as well. Check flyer or site or store for all the details.

And this concludes our Office Max coverage. We hope you enjoyed it! If you did, be sure to add it to Digg, Stumble Upon, Delicious, Reddit, Mixx, Furl, and the like :-)
