Best Buy weekly ad June 29 to July 5, 2008

Let's take a quick look at the digital cameras featured in Best Buys Sunday paper circular! We start with the lowest prices and move on upwards!

At $100, making it a $100 camera deal, we find the Kodak C813. This has a 3x optical zoom lens, and an 8mp 1/2.5" sensor. At $140, we find the Sony S750which is a great price for a Sony until you consider the additional cost of Memorysticks :) Then at $155 we find the Kodak M893-IS, which has IS and a 2.7" LCD, along with the typical 8mp 1/2.5" sensor and 3x optical zoom lens.

But if you don't want to risk a purchase, Canon is always the "safe bet", and the "old" SD750 can be yours for $180. Even though it has a 3" LCD, this older model does not have image stabilization, so you might want to consider the SD1100-IS instead which are dropping in price and are available in multiple delicious colors.

Moving up to $200 even, we find one of Ashton Kutcher's favorite Coolpix models, the Nikon S550 black. This has the 2008 10-megapixel 1/2.3" sensor along with a 5x optical zoom, but it does not start at wide mind you. It has blink warning, but f*rt warning is sorely missed ;-)

And if you are a trendy gadgetologist, you can't go wrong in terms of buzzwords with the Casio EX-S10, with a 2.7" LCD, a $25 iTunes gift card, and bonus buzzwords such as eBay, YouTube and iTunes. The price is $250.

Sony's H-series "fun zooms" have take a beating at the hands of reviewers, but not everyone agrees with their findings. So if you don't object to the negatives posed in the reviews, you can get the Cybershot H10 for $280. But the cameras that have taken the market by storm are the Panasonic TZ-series models, which first showed signs of blockbuster status with the now legendary Panasonic TZ3.

The DSLR Duo, yes Canon vs Nikon
How predictable :) The Nikon offering is the D40 with the kit lens (non-VR) for $500, or you can add a side of fries with the 55-200 Nikkor lens for an extra $100, which perhaps makes the two-lens kit a good deal, unless you think 6-megapixels are simply not enough and you want to take a look at the D60 instead, whose kit lens is a VR-lens.

Canon on the other hand has the D-Rebel XSi with the 18-55 EF-S at the pre-discount price of $900 (current price at Amazon and elsewhere is $800). But Best Buy offers the 75-300 lens for an extra $100, so perhaps that 2-lens kit might fare better when comparing with other retailers online and offline.

Memories on memory cards
A 2gb standard Sandisk card can be yours for $18, while a 4gb Sandisk Ultra II is waiting for you if you can part with $30. $40 is what you pay for a 4gb Sony MemoryStick and $35 will get you a Lexar professional Neanderthal card (CompactFlash). Just kidding CF fans :-0)
