Camera specials at Staples (3/8 to 3/14)

The new weekly ad of Staples is posted online, and in it we find a couple of affordable digital cameras advertised. First one is the Olympus FE-360 offered for a mere $80. That's right, that is not a typo my friends. The price is indeed eighty dollars! This is of course a basic camera, but you are certainly getting your money's worth at $80 if you already have xD memory cards or you don't object to getting a couple of them to use with this camera. It has an eight megapixel sensor (1/2.5" size) with a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 2.5" LCD. And it has the popular consumer-friendly feature of face detection.

The other digital camera advertised is a red Kodak M1063, a camera that uses a ten megapixel sensor (1/2.3" size) with a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.7" LCD and of course face detection. The price is $138 and it is while supplies last so don't sleep on it if you like it or if you have a Staples gift card to burn.

Surpringly, they only have two cameras, but they also memory on sale, highlighted by the 4gb Sandisk Ultra II selling for $15. Ultra II is a step above the "regular" cards and obviously sells at a premium over the regular cards. Also an Ultra II, is the Memory Stick Pro Duo they offer and as you may have guessed, it costs twice as much. Yep, twice as much! $30 for a 4gb card.

And those with CompactFlash memory can get the Sandisk 4gb Ultra II card for $20. Yes, CF has a slight premium over SD, it is a bigger card after all :-)

Last but not least, for the cellphone users, they have a 4gb microSDHC going for $13. Not bad either.

As memory card prices drop, the difference between online and brick-and-mortar is diminishing, especially if you are only buying one or two cards. Obvioulsy if you are buying in volume, you can still save a lot more by buying online.
